It's completely different from bollywood dance . It's " bharatnatyam " a form of dance in India. It's devotional and Devine.
And lord Shiva is the deity who is worshiped and he is considered as "Natraj" the origin of dance and music, yoga and many other things.

This is not a folk dance--this is classical dance. There is a distinct difference between the two. Folk dance does not have a set repertoire or fixed movements and hand gestures the way Bharatanatyam and other classical dances such as Kathak, Odissi, and Kuchipudi do. Please don't confuse the two as it lessens the value of classical dance.

Wow I'm literally regretting watching this reaction.. I suppose they low key made fun of the dance. Please don't react on any video that you don't understand. We Indians worship our culture.. it was really hurting seeing you two making fun of it. ( Maybe it was not intentional still can't help feeling bad about it) If you don't understand study about it first. Just as Korea is not only about Kpop. India too is not only about bollywood our culture is complex and has many many elements in it. If you're genuinely interested then you can study about it if you're not don't even bother reacting.

A background on the dance form: In the video you are watching Bharatnatyam which is a traditional dance form from South India. Yes, you need to learn it from a young age and it requires years of practice to master the art.
Other traditional forms are: Manipuri, Kuchipudi, Kathak, Odissi, Kathakali, and so on.
Besides these forms there are many folk dance forms as well as triable dance forms.

This dance MUST be done with perfection. Took me 4 years to learn basics alone and it’ll take me a few more years to get advanced enough for the arangetram (i hope i spelled this right). It’s kind of like a graduation of the dance where you showcase skill and stamina while dancing for 2 hours straight. It’s a huge deal and all your family and friends come. Bharatanatyam looks so much easier than it actually is. Your shoulders and thighs hurt a lot after dancing

Bharatanatyam---The word Bharata is a mnemonic, consisting of "bha"-"ra"-"ta".According to this belief, bha stands for bhava (feelings, emotions), ra stands for raga (melody, framework for musical notes), and ta stands for tala (rhythm). The term Natya is a Sanskrit word for "dance". The compound word Bharatanatyam thus connotes a dance that harmoniously expresses bhava, raga, and tala.

That's not the skirts with pants...its a whole Saree stitched like that...and yes as u said they start practicing bharatanatyam from the very young age...like they start at age 5 or so...because at that age bones will be so tender and that age helps a lot in difficult bending movements...once we grow up those gestures will be soo soo difficult!!

God Shiva is worshipped in India as in form "Nataraj",who expressed his emotions through dance which is called Shiva Tandava. Shiva Tandava is the most energetic dance form, and one needs rigorous training. There are many videos that you can follow-up in TH-cam.

Learning every mudra is quite difficult..its education ...people graduate from bharatnatyam...its a very complex art...u have to remember exactly the write mudra to represent any expression or for example ...forest flowers rivers ...everything is expressed through various gestures...even the dress and jewellery flowers everything has meaning behind it...its not hollow like bollywood dancing its very pure dharmic tradition of India..u must not even compare it with any other dance forms of west ...yes it can be compared with mohiniattam kuchipudi odissi kathakali manipuri and kathak..these are are classical dance forms of india..they are very different from other dance forms

Look at these beautiful guys who really want nd trying to understand classical dance of india, but in pur country there r too many peoples who don't know about bharatnatyam nd kuchipudi dancing, I'm a bharatnatyam nd kuchipudi dancer since 7 years also get 1, 2 prizes in my performances in competitions, also my dance teacher is really praise my dancing. Nowadays I practicing a bharatnatyam fusion dance beatboxing for annual function in my college, our vice principal mam see me dancing on that, she say that ur dancing doesn't matches on beats, actually we r three girls performing on different classical dance, one is performing kathak, other kuchipudi nd me bharatnatyam on beatboxing, u guys know how different these dance forms are, nd a teacher say u have to dance bharatnatyam fusion nd when i dance vice principal say that ur dance is different, cause other two girls don't know classical dance they only dance through the youtube, they dance really like 3 class dance cause we know that whether it is fusion or semi classical, the steps of that dance form is same only the beats nd song nd costumes will can be change or mixedup. Nd there is a choreographer who said me that people don't know what r u doing, but in bharatnatyam should we can add belly dancing, tango or hiphop? Just because u name it fusion or semi classical. Totally shit people who doesn't know the classical dance forms😤😤😬😡....... Huge respect u korean guys who really trying to understand the dance form... 🙏✌️👌👏👏👏👏 i wish I'm there or ur type of guys r here.

BharataNatyam is considered to the oldest form of dance and mother of all other style of classical dance in India. The classical Indian dance Bharatanatyam originated from the art of temple dancers in the South India state of Tamil Nadu. Bharatanatyam is reworked form of dance from the traditional sadir and combination of ( Bha)expression, (ra)music, (tha) beat and (natyam) dance. Bharatanatyam is the most popular styles of dance performed by male and female dancers.
