I just bought a 2019 camry xse v6 from a toyota dealer here in florida. I brought it in a week later after i bought it bc my remote start would shut off when i opened the door. Service guy says leave it here and it was there for a week. Co.e to find out thats how the car is made to shut off for security reasons. But the dealer played it off like it was a issue and said we cant find the problem. Meanwhile while it was there i put a claim in with toyota corporote bc they lied to me about it. They shouldnt have ever kept it in the first place. Corporote found out bc they were billing the manafacteur..and the dealership got audited and fined for unethical dealings....
The Toyota dealership I worked at would do the service even if the mileage on the particular vehicle was low. We would also change the oil on Pickups, and SUV’s (sequoia, 4runner, not highlander) at 5,000 miles, and cars at 10,000 miles. It is safe to assume that the “whichever comes first” would be applicable to the service intervals.
Came for an oil change and rotate tires. Upon completion of the service I discovered the tires were not rotated. When I question the service rep, his response was it's been completed (LIE) because the the service bulletin said so. I told him that I marked by tires before the service and I know they hadn't been rotated. Then he goes to say that my prepaid Toyota Care plan didn't include the rotation (LIE). After I showed him the Toyota Care plan did include the rotation he sent a technician to complete the order. It appears that these dishonest practices by Toyota dealerships are widespread as I had a similar experience at a different Toyota.
Just got back from my 5K/6MO check... took 22 minutes from driving in to driving out. Where did you get this 3 hour thing you’re ranting about... if that’s the actual time requirement, find a better dealership! BTW, ToyotaCare isn’t “free”, rather it’s “prepaid”... you paid for the first 2 years / 25K miles of schedule service (built into the price of the car). Nothing is really “free”...
benjamin meza what makes you think that... you have no idea what my dealership did or didn’t do. 1st check on a new vehicle that was only driven 2800 miles (check floor mat, fluid levels, wiper blades, rotate tires and check brake pads/linings/drums) doesn’t take long. You’re just being an asshat...
I bought the 10 year bumper to bumper warranty on my 2016 Honda Odyssey. I have already had ~$4600 covered cost repairs. The car is 7 years old and only has 60,000 miles. IDK if this is a knock on Honda or not but that warranty was the best purchase I have ever made.
I only drive around 7-8000 miles a year, feel comfortable doing 5000 mile oil change on Tacoma. What do you think? Had a Silverado and changed oil in June and December whether I had enough miles or not.
A few other "Toyota care" details that may help others: Toyota care is your first 5 vehicle inspections at 5k, 10k, 15k, 20k and 25k. They will only change your oil at the 10k and 20k inspection intervals. If you meet the extreme duty requirements (towing, majority of your time offroad), they will not change the oil at the recommended 5k service interval. If you want the oil changed at the extreme duty intervals you will have to pay for it. As far as upcharges, there shouldn't be anything that is not warrantable in the first 25k miles, so do not expect that from the dealerships. If they do try and upcharge, find a new dealership.
@@truckin00man Obviously you have a different oil drain interval. My 4runner, Tundra and Camry all have 10k mile oil drain intervals. The severe duty drain interval for my 4runner is 5k, and NOT covered by Toyota Care. I don't know anything about flex fuel, but what I stated for non flex fuel vehicles is accurate.
Just got my 10k service done at 8k on my 2022 trd offroad. I asked, and they said that I could bring the truck in every 4-5k miles. They said I just need to request the oil change whenever I want it.
I have flex fuel tundra, oil change is 5k. I'm up for the 25k service in the next month, then I will be done. Local dealership is calling me all the time to schedule service, its really annoying. Glad it's about over.
I been working for dealers since August 2004, as a lots of people know, the service advisor needs to sell you services a lots of them that you buy you don’t have them done, like, trans flush, steering wheels flush, radiator flush, “synthetic oil” they don’t give costumes none of those, im friend with mechanics “most of the brands” also, if you think your car it’s been done by a professional, no, you’re wrong again, at least 70% of the “mechanics” are technicians, kids that just got out of a tech school. They are learning how to play on your car.
I wouldn't ever take my car until the dealership for any reason other than a recall or ECU update. They only want your time, money, and will probably break your car to say something has to be fixed.
Really? That has literally NEVER happened to me. In fact, I took my Silverado LTZ in for a transmission leak to GM dealer, and they fixed it without question and it didn't cost me a dime cause it was covered by the warranty. Totally subjective opinion. lmao
Just got a 2020 Tacoma!!! Went to dealership in town and this Nut told me they don’t Change the Oil until 100 thousand miles!!!!!! I have the 10 years Bumper to Bumper Warranty!!!! Maybe because I didn’t buy it There!!! I don’t know!!!! But I am calling Toyota Customer Service On MONDAY!!!! I mean The CORPORATE!!!! Not a Dealer !!
Toyota Care is a pain. They want me in every 5000 miles. Oil change every 10,000 miles. In two years I put 37300 miles on the truck. The 5000 mile interval doesn’t actually provide service. After the free services with Toyota Care I am charged for nothing. Usually around $180.00 for a very light inspection and making sure I have windshield washer fluid. I think it’s a waste of time and money. But the warranty coverage could be compromised without the 5000 mile interval service. Thanks for talking about this RobMotive. As usual the content here is great.
All these people with super low miles but had the truck's for over 6 months? DRIVE YOUR TRUCK!!! unless you are leasing it go and enjoy it. It's a Toyota. It's not reliable if you are not using it enough
If ya don't put alot of miles it's not really worth it. I however have blown through all 5 inspections in the first year, 25k miles so far in 12 months. So it's nice having the plan for me.
Back in 2004 I bought my first new Tacoma. At 15,000 miles the service writer at my dealer tried to sell me an injector cleaning service. I said "the truck runs perfectly, why would it need injector cleaning?" The guy tried to tell me if I didn't do it it could effect my warranty. I told him to get fucked. Now that truck has 250,000 miles on it and has never had a single thing wrong with the drivetrain. Runs like the day I bought it and I believe that is because I kept it away from toyota service techs. Do your own maintenance people. It's all easy to do.
I had my 2018 Camry oil changed at around 3000 miles and they tried to talk me out of it said it was too early but they went ahead and did it counting as one of my free oil changes I could tell it ran smoother after they changed it,also changed it myself at around 6000 and I can tell you the oil filter felt very heavy so I know it had a lot of metal inside that old filter which is a very small filter,I would never wait till 5000 mile or more to have my oil changed why would they even care it's just wearing the engine out sooner than it needs to be,I'm old school when it comes to maintenance on my vehicles, the weight of the oil filter told me everything I needed to know, new engines still have a break in period no matter what they say.
I had my truck for almost a month and about to reach 4,000 miles. Thanks for the information about Toyota Care. I plan to take my truck in soon for the oil change and they better change it. I don't trust the 10,000 miles rule
RobMotive I took my tundra in for 12month service . They won’t do oil change because it only has 5200miles . I have to pay for the oil change . Toyota care is a joke .
RobMotive my dealer kinda different I get free oil change until 25k miles or for 2 years which ever comes first but I think there’s a problem with my brake so ima see what wrong with them btw it’s a 2019 camry
I have my first toyotacare appointment for my 2018 tundra next week. I don't have anywhere near 5000 miles on it but there is a service bulletin out for the radar sensor on the front so now is a good time for them to take care of that if nothing else.
The free Toyotacare that comes with a new car/truck for the first 24 months is nice if you put 8-12k miles on your truck a year. If you're driving less than that it's probably not worth it to get it extended. I got an extended Toyotacare for 7yrs or 100k miles for a little over $1k. I put on about 15k miles a year though, so the free synthetic oil changes & tire rotations make it worthwhile. They do recommend other services while you are there depending on your mileage but it is very low pressure and easy to decline if you like. The synthetic changes at the dealership are actually quite reasonable at about $75. I personally have only waited for more than 90 minutes one time.
Dang it Rob, you're making me think about things I hadn't considered. I didn't think about the months aspect, only the miles for my Toyota care. I may actually be past the time limit for the free oil change, even though I haven't reached 10,000 miles yet. I did get the 5,000 miles service. They said they checked things like the brake linings, too. I know they did not rotate my tires like they claimed. I was running wheel spacers, but removed them before getting it serviced. I marked each wheel so I could reinstall the same spacer on it. After the service, each wheel was in it's original spot. I didn't make a fuss because I have lifetime rotation and balancing with Discount Tire. Well, better go schedule my oil change. Thanks for the info!
The 1st person you talked to was most likely a call center that only schedules appointments. My Toyota dealer uses one too. I don't like it either. No mechanical knowledge. If I have a question I call & ask for a service advisor by name. Think of Toyota care as free oil changes & tire rotations for 2 yrs or 25k miles. Nothing more. My dealer never calls me. They email me with service coupons (I like) & major sale announcements (ok & not often).
You can look up on-line what they will do at each mileage interval. I had my truck in to get the tonneau cover installed and my dealer said they would do the 8000 km (Canada) check at the same time. When I picked up my truck they said they didn't have time to do it but not to worry about it.
i've never used one of those care services or purchased an extended warranty just change oil regularly and do service usually once a year. they always try to sell you something when you get there even if its a recall job.
Yep, i had them do the 5k thinking it was an oil change, and it was just an inspection and rotation. Long story ahort they scratched all 4 of my platinum wheels and ended up replacing all 4 because they couldnt fix them
I have had my Tacoma for about 10 months. At 5000 and 10000 miles they changed the oil and tire rotation. I am about 900 miles from the 15000 service. Had no issues what so ever...
I just took my 2022 highlander in for 10k service , left it all day. They didn’t rotate tires, Didn’t top up fluids and didn’t set tire pressure and the rattle from underneath is still there.
The dealer said my 18 tacoma was due for service at the 6 month mark with only 4800 miles and an appointment was made without telling me. They said if I don't come in for the 6 month/5k mile service, it voids the toyota care.
@@RobMotive not sure about the extended warranty, it's just a giant scam to me. The service writer told me the only service I needed to go to was the first one 6 month/5k miles and I don't need to go back to the dealer if I don't want to and my toyota care would still be good. Honestly, any service before 50k on the tacoma is just tire rotation and oil change. I can do that myself.
@@RobMotive btw I went this weekend for the toss pcs radar saftey recall and it was basically gluing a foam cushion behind the front radar and reprogramming the pcs. I never really had a problem with it except when I get the random "BRAKE NOW" warning when there is no car in front of me.
ToyotaCare, 2 Years or 25K Miles, No cost maintenance plan for 2 years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first. 24-hour roadside assistance is also included for 2 years and unlimited miles.
Ya but some people don't even know how to open the hood If it starts drive on.... but me buying it 2nd hand i would like to see it done means you cared about the vehicle.
Just follow your car owners manual and you can't go wrong, go to Walmart service car center and have your oil changed at a nominal fee, they will also inspect your vehicle if you are not mechanically talented, just check fluid levels and observe any unusual noise, you'll be ok.
I was told the same on my 2018 because it has full synthetic oil. But I called on the 5000 mile and was told bring it and they did the oil change & etc. Used the drop-off and pick-up service they provided. As well as the free breakfast bar they have. They offer free
The place I took my Tacoma for it's 5000 mile checkup did the same thing. Now, you do have a manual that tells you what they are going to do. Assuming they are going to do an oil change at 5k just tells me you didn't read the little plan schedule book that came with your Tacoma. I ended up doing my own oil change at 5k since it wasn't scheduled in the plan book. I'm just about to schedule mine for it's 10k soon in a couple weeks... we'll see what happens.
hey Rob, I recently was in this situation, except for the after market tires. still have my oems. But when I got to the dealership, I told him him that I insisted in the oil change because of the new engine, and the break in process does build up slightly metal shavings, u know new parts breaking in type of stuff. and I learned this from a certified Toyota mechanic that I follow on u tube. so what they said was not only did he agree with me, but he was going to switch the 5,000 mile service with the 10,000. So they will do the oil change now, and when I bring it in for the next Toyota care service, they will just do the 5000 miles service instead. 😊
Maaan good thing I just seen this.....I got 2250 miles on my 2019 after market tires and got the letter from dealer to bring it in......thank you Rob I would have wasted 3-4 hours.....also a question I have is...I bought this truck from a dealership in NJ I live in staten island and don't want to go to that dealership in NJ. I want to go to the one near me...do you think I will be treated differently here in staten dealership because I didn't buy it from them?
If the new dealership takes 3 hours then by all means don’t waste your time. BUT if they take 5 minutes and you get to talk trucks while another guy inspects the truck, then there isn’t any harm. Customer service is how the dealership is rated, people want to know if the service department is as good as the sales department.
RobMotive give them a bad review for slow service and watch how quick they jump to make the next visit 5 star. Had a flat tire at 500 miles, piece of metal in sideway. Toyota dealership said we will plug the spare. I said this vehicle has 500 miles and you are giving me a plugged spare tire? Next day had a new 20inch tire. No charge.
Toyota dealers use markup sells for aggressive maintenance services. Thats where dealers make their money. Some dealers more aggressive than others. I got sucker before with my wife's 2008 pre owned Rav4. They had me coming back every 5000 miles !! Oil change with flush, trans flush & check wheel alignment. I went twice stopped because extra cost was unnecessary. I told service rep my service manual doesn't states these extra service is needed every 5000 mile! He said " well our dealership recommends this service because our area has harsh weather conditions." BS I purchased a new 2009 CC LB 4x4 Toyota Tacoma from a different dealer. They agreed that dealer was very aggressive & we don't work like that here.
I purchased a 2018 Toyota Tacoma offroad last year Rob. I drive about 18,000 miles per year and I been taking advantage of the Toyota care program, so far I haven't paid a dime and been getting an oil change and tire rotation every 5,000 miles. Looking forward to lifting my truck, but I'm waiting on the Toyota warranty to expire at 36,000 miles.
joe black dealers in Canada do. This is how they try and get people into dealership. What’s funny is that if you go on Toyota Canada corporate site it doesn’t ask for oil filter other than with oil once a year. This is why I don’t bother with 6, 18, 30 etc month services. Once per year is all that’s required.
joe black must be my dealer only then. That’s another difference, we don’t have Toyota care in Canada. Although most will do free oil changes if you do rest of servicing with them.
You gotta watch. About 3 years ago i power washed my Taco engine a little bit. It was in the Winter & needed oil change. So I let dealer do it. Later that day the service rep calls me you need to come now. So I get there my truck is on the lift. Mechanic showed me oil was leaking from the timing chain cover. I said I just power washed my truck engine compartment. That's residue oil coming down. mechanic wasn't sure and he said it's going to cost like $2,500 to fix. The truck was 09 with only 100,000 miles. I said nevermind no thank you.
I got a flex fuel, it’s got Toyota Care, they flipped when I was in Miami with 2.5k miles and requested an oil change. He stated I’d have to pay for it because Toyo-Care won’t cover it until yahdah yahdah I told him I don’t care, change my oil and filter please. The tire balance was bull shit, I had the same vibration for 500 miles on the way back. At 3.8k I had them done at a shop of my choice, issue resolved. When I went for my 5k LOF the local dealer I stated don’t touch my tires I left my lock in the vault yet they left my lower engine cover missing a few bolts. Needless to say I was ticked off and won’t go back, so far the current dealer in Thomasville Ga. Has done right by me. But if I become unhappy I’m going to do like my sister, lease a Cadillac and get a new one ever three years and the Hell with it.
RobMotive Indubitably and mighty good performance if you know what to look for. And if you’re leasing is like renting, so if it screws up they give you another to drive. And after you ragged it l, hot riddled it, rode it hard and put it away wet after three years turn it in get another.
So let me get this straight, they only cover the oil change at 10,000 or 12,000 mile? I would prefer every 6000 as that's how I have been maintaining my diesel Jeep Liberty CRD for over 10 years and oil analysis proves that it's good for the engine. Looks like a good value at first but now Toyota care is loosing some shine with me. If I want to keep after it like my Jeep I'm gonna be on the hook for some of my own maintenance any how.
My '17 Tundra FFV has 67k mi and i have put good use to Toyota Care, and even re-upped twice. I've done over 12 services and have it down to a science. First, and most important, find the right dealership. Then, find the right service rep for you and go to them every time to build rapport. Get their direct line. Call them to schedule so they pick a day theyre working. Be prepared and do research on maintenaince. Dont ok anything you arent sure about. Research it first. My KO2'S are over 65k and still look good because of those tire rotations. My dealership also has a free shuttle service (complimentary Lyft or Uber) within 15 miles, i belive most do this. I am very happy with Toyota Care and never fear maintenance day.
@@motorcitymanman7711 I would hope they love me. They show me plenty of love while I'm there, so I would assume you're right! FFV have a recommended 5k service time compared to the non-FFV 10k. Its suits me anyhow. I like to know who Im doing business with and I can honestly say I know my Toyota dealership and they know me. So far so good!
@@jonstundralife5897 They want to build trust with you so you give them ALL their overpriced service.......you're doing just what they want! Go to a reputable independant shop and save about 50% what you pay at a stealership. I went to one last year and they wanted $90 to change a cabin air filter.....a 10 minute job!!
This is an older video Rob but still a meaningful one. It’s something a lot of people have to think about with low mileage. I’m of the thinking if it isn’t broke don’t fix it but I do subscribe to preventive measures in some cases. I do like to change the oil at the 6 month mark, regardless of mileage because it’s cheap insurance and good for the motor. Some people do their own oil change at 5K and let the dealer dot the 10K intervals. Very very helpful video though. I’m trying to catch up on your tutorials since I’m a newer sub!
Sounds like they wanted to do Toyota's Service #1? Without an oil change and without a rotation I don't see a point either. You can inspect your own light, tires, horn, change your own cabin filter. I think you're right about the 6 month mark aren't you? Personally I don't let an oil change go longer then 5 no matter the KM.
It must be your first time buying a new car/truck at a Toyota dealership. I have bought 4 new cars and 1 truck with Toyota, this is just regular maintenance so your car/truck will be working properly, I haven't spent more than 1hr at the dealership when I take my cars for service.
My mileage etc., is pretty similar to yours Rob... but I went in when the service rep called because I was sincerely hoping SHE would check my fluids- if you know what I mean 😎
I’m sure you know this, but the purpose of this program is to get you in the door so they can try to upcharge you on other things like new filters, alignments, brakes, tires, etc.
I agree everyone’s situation with their car is different. I do have to say, I will be buying the extended care program for my Tundra. As the mileage increases, there will be increased costs for additional things that need to get done. So I have a 30.000 mile coming up at the end of the month. It’s one of the “major cost” ones because of the additional things they are having to do. And the other really big one is at 45.000. So they presented the individual costs to me for just these two mileage points and to buy just these two service mileage packages out of pocket would be a combined $749. The extended Toyota care would be $329. That’s a good value in my book. Get inspections at 30k, 35k, 40k, 45k. Thanks for the video! Take care!
Absolutely! I think it’s s good thing to do if you don’t tend to the minor maintenance items yourself. Of course just the hassle of tire rotation would make the visit worthwhile if you’re having it done. Sounds like s good deal on your service plan given the costs of your upcoming milestones 👍
Nothing "major" should be done until at least 60k miles. Change front/rear differential fluid and transmission fluid. At least that's what my Tundra owners manual says.
I have 2020 Toyota Corolla xse Toyota care is not free its $1,050 they put it into the balance of the car and if I'm reading my contract right I got 55,000 miles or 5 years Toyota care ends I have a 6 year loan but plan to pay off in 3 years uber life
Find a different dealership!!!!, I’m now at 25k miles so far every service has been great where I go, u can always just have them drop u off at home then pick u up I usually do that, the sales guy actually explained to me that about the extended service exactly the way the service guy explained it to u so I’m sure it’s true I’m not gna buy it cuz I’ll just service it myself lol (even though I drive the cap out of it) hahah I’m like at 25k now, Great topic rob 😁😁
I’ll prob go by the time schedule while I have Toyota Care. Like you though...I’ll not buy the extended plan!! I’ve never paid for an extended service plan. They are really just money makers for the dealership. Thanks for watching man👍👍
They will not "drop you off" and/or "pick you up" anywhere, if it's located outside of the county the dealership is located in. I've dealt with 2 different Toyota dealerships and they will not travel outside of the county in which their dealership is located.
@@RobMotive Both Toyota dealers told me their insurance policy would not allow them to leave the county. Maybe a lie? The nearest dealer is exactly 16 miles from my house and they said no way to shuttle service (even one way).
If you are not putting alot of miles on your tacoma in 6months-12 months then get just an oil change done. You not putting alot of miles on is not good for the engine oil. Depending on your temps where you live id still play it safe and do 6month oil changes if you arent getting the miles on your engine for toyota care. You dont want old oil just sitting in there and possibly build up any sort of sludge.
Reason why they call you this because they get $75-$100 from toyota do you think they care about you know it’s all about the money. I go at the 12 months At the 12 months I should be at 10,000 miles and not even that’s why I do my service who cares is for free.
I just bought a 2019 tacoma today and it came with the 2 year/20K mile plan. It had a sticker in the window indicating to bring it in at 5000 miles. That's the OCI recommendation where I bought it.
@@joseph2marin Ok I will call and reconfirm today but when I was signing yesterday I did ask and I was told OCI every 5K miles included 2 years or 20K miles whatever comes first. I will post once I call and confirm with the dealer
Not if you live outside of the county the dealership is located in. My dealer will not "shuttle" outside of the county they are located in, for any reason, even if it's no fault of your own.
They will lie to you and only will change your oil at 10k!! Way too dam long IMO!! Get this, if you pay for it yourself , they won't even state you need to change it every 10k!! They only want to ruin your car and try to sell you stuff or make your car worse!!
Not catching the point of this rant. People should know a little bit about what the dealerships do. Geez, get to know your service manager. There's no harm in having your tires rotated, even if you only have 2500 miles on it. Have tire pressure checked and adjusted. Plus, if you use lots of windshield wiper fluid, what the heck, they'll top it off. If you work from home, you can just work from the dealership. Another plus is that if you go to sell the truck, you can show in the CarFax that you have done all your service done, and done at the dealership. It can literally add a thousand or more to the value of the truck.
My dealer has an Express facility across the street from the regular garage. They only do Toyota Care oil changes, filters and tire rotations, windsh wipers, fluids, etc. Easy stuff. No appointments, just drive in. Never more then 15 minutes.
Rob, I am a real fan of yours and I have a 2019 Toyota Tacoma 4 x 4 extended cab or access cab I mean. Anyway, I understand the oil change, but you have never said anything about changing the oil filter. Is the filter change not that important on the Toyotas? If it is, I wonder If you have seen this new spin on filter adapter for the Toyotas with the cartridge filters?
@@RobMotive Call a different dealer. I got mine at 5K and 10K. Basically for the first 2 years, you get free scheduled maintenance. Oil change interval is every 5K and its free for first 2 years.
@@zrx338 yup, that's exactly how they did me. Guessing it depends on the dealership. So far I'm liking mine. I had the, don't laugh, PermaPlate put on, got hot with a hail storm. Had to have hope replaced and other hail damage fixed. My dealer only wanted to reapply it on the hood. Schedule for a week out and they reapply to the whole truck at no charge!
Say now, when old fred had one them fords he was a regular at the service dept. spent some quality time eating popcorn, had some gal next to fred hackin with some kind a bug... or runny nose kids wanting to jump on the mrs. and then pick up freds ride with grease on the upholstery and a scratch or two on the side panel....them was the days...
Total scam, they say free but they wanted to charge me $30 just for fluid check and tire rotation with refusal to change oil at 5,000 miles. When they actually change your oil at 10,000 miles they still charge you $50 with toyota care
Oil changes are every 10k miles these new toyotas dont need it every 5k..I enjoy going to dealer for Toyota care gives me time to look at cool new parts and mods:)
I got an email that breaks down what Toyota Care does during the first two years of free service when I first bought my truck; they give you that information almost immediately after buying the truck. So you should already know what they're gonna do. It specifically breaks it down into five sections for that 2 year period. Five total visits, 2 oil changes (every 10,000 miles +/-), 5 tire rotations, 5 fluid checks, etc. I literally just bought my truck 2 weeks ago and I already know this (lol). I think it's fair to stick to their schedule since the average person puts about 12,000 miles on their vehicle per year. You're just being difficult. :-)
Are you really going to bitch about taking care of your new truck? If you have to wait three hours at your dealers service dept your going to the wrong one or your not making any appointments? Either way just go in for the service they already charged you for. If you decide to sale or trade in your rig you will be in a great position to demand a good price out of your rig. You followed all the maintenance rules and took care of your vehicle. No argument out of anyone that you didn't take good care of that vehicle. Get the most out of your used vehicles by getting them serviced regularly! Who cares if they inconvenience you a little? Wouldn't you rather have most of the money you paid out for that rig back in your pocket when you sale ?
i understand what you are saying. Say it is end of 2 years and you have a total of 8K miles on the vehicle. Normal vehicle, i would get the tires rotated once. It seems dumb that you get the tires roated every 2k miles like clockwork right?. Now if you trade it in to the same dealer, here comes a vehicle with a good vehicle history that it was cared for....mmm maybe we can make this a certified vehilcle...mmm maybe we offer him more for his trade in. That is the way i look at it and think it is smart to follow the free service even if it seems a waste of your time. I think the 10k oil change is crazy and plan on doing it myself at 5k. I do believe they use mobile one oil in these toyotas and is why they have the 10k. Do you still have it? Seems the 2 years might be up since you posted this video.
Dealers really don’t care about such things. With the 70ish vehicles I’ve traded never once did a dealer ever ask about any of these things. All they care about is mileage and physical condition of the vehicle. 😐
I paid $1200 for the same extended warranty. I actually ran into this situation about a month ago. Toyota care was over so I called the dealership and asked if I needed to do my oil changes and such at the dealership for them to honor warranty. Lady I spoke with said no. As long as the part looks like it was defective prematurely it would be covered. Adios dealership. They wanted over $550 for their recommended service. (30K) AND $340 for the next best offering. I told my wife, just do oil and leave, still $85. I wont be going back, also it took them 7 hours for the oil change. Never again.
I think the price has to do with which vehicle it is. 2016 prius in my case. Gotta go in with confidence and not accepting no to the price you want the vehicle for. 0%apr and got the rebates. (You also need the credit to back up the confidence)
@@RobMotive I've bought 3 or 4 vehicles from this Toyota dealership I got to in And.out in a hr. For service. And just stellar customer service and same service tech going on 6 years or so. Suck hear it's not company wide.
Wow! That’s something I hadn’t heard before! Good that you reported it👍
If you want you vehicle to last - change the oil before 10k. The oil should be changed every 5k or 1 year, whichever occurs first.
You are more diligent than I. I ASSUMED I was getting an oil change at the first appointment. Toyota care doesn’t care.
Nope! Not unless you put on a ton of miles😐
That’s the way it should be!!👍
Came for an oil change and rotate tires.
Now that is a bummer😡
Just got back from my 5K/6MO check... took 22 minutes from driving in to driving out. Where did you get this 3 hour thing you’re ranting about... if that’s the actual time requirement, find a better dealership! BTW, ToyotaCare isn’t “free”, rather it’s “prepaid”... you paid for the first 2 years / 25K miles of schedule service (built into the price of the car). Nothing is really “free”...
It took 22 minutes because they never really looked at your truck.
benjamin meza what makes you think that... you have no idea what my dealership did or didn’t do. 1st check on a new vehicle that was only driven 2800 miles (check floor mat, fluid levels, wiper blades, rotate tires and check brake pads/linings/drums) doesn’t take long. You’re just being an asshat...
True there is no such thing as free lunch
My taco was free, it came with a complimentary taco salad 👍
Lol! Must get great fuel economy...😬
But, how does it effect the warranty? I intend to change the oil at 1000 miles and again at 5000 miles on my '23 OR.
I think every 5000 miles is just right👍
A few other "Toyota care" details that may help others: Toyota care is your first 5 vehicle inspections at 5k, 10k, 15k, 20k and 25k.
Good info👍
Not completely true. If you have a flex fuel vehicle, like a Tundra, they will change the oil every 5,000 miles. I know this because they do mine.
It absolutely is accurate. I just wanted to make sure people knew that your statement didn’t tell the whole story for every vehicle.
Just me, drove my new truck off the lot and it never made it back to the dealer ever, now at 47k, it never will.
They hate people like you
Just got my 10k service done at 8k on my 2022 trd offroad.
Yup...I can see that😬
I wouldn't ever take my car until the dealership for any reason other than a recall or ECU update.
Totally subjective opinion. lmao
I like it when the dealership offers free state inspections for life, then find things wrong that really aren’t
Wow! That is a downside!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😬
What!!!!???? That’s crazy😡
Thanks Bruce👍
All these people with super low miles but had the truck's for over 6 months? DRIVE YOUR TRUCK!!! unless you are leasing it go and enjoy it. It's a Toyota. It's not reliable if you are not using it enough
If ya don't put alot of miles it's not really worth it. I however have blown through all 5 inspections in the first year, 25k miles so far in 12 months. So it's nice having the plan for me.
Yup, I agree. All depends on your needs. For me it’s just a waste of time👍
Back in 2004 I bought my first new Tacoma.
Yup...sometimes the best maintenance is no maintenance!! I try to stay away as much as possible 👍
Sounds like you made the right decision John.
I had my truck for almost a month and about to reach 4,000 miles. Thanks for the information about Toyota Care. I plan to take my truck in soon for the oil change and they better change it. I don't trust the 10,000 miles rule
All depends on the individual dealership I think. 🤔
RobMotive I took my tundra in for 12month service . They won’t do oil change because it only has 5200miles . I have to pay for the oil change . Toyota care is a joke .
Wow! That’s crazy! You’d think they’d do it and it would just take away from the number of covered services🤔
RobMotive my dealer kinda different I get free oil change until 25k miles or for 2 years which ever comes first but I think there’s a problem with my brake so ima see what wrong with them btw it’s a 2019 camry
Gotta get them checked while you have warranty 👍
Oh yeah. I drive a lot. I went through the 5 free services in about 14 months.
I have my first toyotacare appointment for my 2018 tundra next week. I don't have anywhere near 5000 miles on it but there is a service bulletin out for the radar sensor on the front so now is a good time for them to take care of that if nothing else.
Yup, since you have to do the recall, what not👍
The free Toyotacare that comes with a new car/truck for the first 24 months is nice if you put 8-12k miles on your truck a year.
Could be. Depends how much is covered and whether or not you’ll spend more than the cost of the plan costs🤔
Lol!! Sorry Terrance😆😆
Your owners manual will detail what is inspected at your first service.
I think you are absolutely correct. They really should tell you that when you call. 👍
jim nielsen
Hell you’re lucky to get the oil change. My dealer wouldn’t change it til 10k miles.
@@q-bert6454 I've heard that from others too. My '12 Tundra is 5k oil changes so when mine was new 10k was not applicable.
Yup! I’ve never bought an extended warranty on anything. Additionally, I’ve never needed one👍
@@RobMotiveyep, when you trade every two to three years, there’s no need.
Yep, i had them do the 5k thinking it was an oil change, and it was just an inspection and rotation.
Long story ahort they scratched all 4 of my platinum wheels and ended up replacing all 4 because they couldnt fix them
Wow!! Bet your glad you went in for that!!!!!!!!😑
Craig Rodriguez I always ask then to be careful not to chip the paint off the wheels.
I have had my Tacoma for about 10 months. At 5000 and 10000 miles they changed the oil and tire rotation. I am about 900 miles from the 15000 service. Had no issues what so ever...
That’s great!! Just the way it should be👍🤔
I just took my 2022 highlander in for 10k service , left it all day. They didn’t rotate tires, Didn’t top up fluids and didn’t set tire pressure and the rattle from underneath is still there.
Wow! That’s horrible 😡
The dealer said my 18 tacoma was due for service at the 6 month mark with only 4800 miles and an appointment was made without telling me. They said if I don't come in for the 6 month/5k mile service, it voids the toyota care.
I was told you have to go by the scheduled intervals or you won’t be able to (pay) to extend the service.
Yup. It’s good for folks that either don’t want to or can’t do the service themselves👍
@@RobMotive btw I went this weekend for the toss pcs radar saftey recall and it was basically gluing a foam cushion behind the front radar and reprogramming the pcs. I never really had a problem with it except when I get the random "BRAKE NOW" warning when there is no car in front of me.
Hmmm..I wonder what the purpose of that is🤔
I had no problems with my Toyota care, I’m at 28,000 right now and past my two years. All is good for me.
Awesome. It does serve a useful purpose if you need it👍
ToyotaCare, 2 Years or 25K Miles, No cost maintenance plan for 2 years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first. 24-hour roadside assistance is also included for 2 years and unlimited miles.

Mine Tundra is a Flex Fuel they wanted (like me) to do that Oil Change at the first 5k no questions asked with the rotation and whatever else.
Devcom88 I have flex fuel on my 17. I’ve been getting it changed with no issues.
Tundra's 5.7 recommendation oil change is 5k miles, new Tacoma's are 10k miles.
Yup. 10k seems like a lot to me, but that’s what they say👍
RobMotive it’s huge.....
Ya but some people don't even know how to open the hood If it starts drive on.... but me buying it 2nd hand i would like to see it done means you cared about the vehicle.
Oh that’s for sure!! Others just don’t want to be bothered. It serves a purpose for those folks for sure👍
Just follow your car owners manual and you can't go wrong, go to Walmart service car center and have your oil changed at a nominal fee, they will also inspect your vehicle if you are not mechanically talented, just check fluid levels and observe any unusual noise, you'll be ok.
Walmart doesn't change oil the right way. They dont drain the oil the way it should be!
My dealer say 6 months or 5000 miles which ever comes first.
Yup, that’s what I saw. However, mine doesn’t change the oil until 10K🤔
I was told the same on my 2018 because it has full synthetic oil.
But I called on the 5000 mile and was told bring it and they did the oil change & etc.
Used the drop-off and pick-up service they provided.
As well as the free breakfast bar they have.
They offer free
Massages on Tuesday, but I work on that day
That’s good to hear. Sounds like you’ve got a good dealer there👍
RobMotive there ok. It’s a dealership. I’ve got a retired Machanic that will do whatever I can’t do. They are to pricy.
Don't take your car to the dealer, they will only ruin or try to sell you something. Do your own oil change at 5 k at most !!! don't wait 10 k !!
hey Rob, I recently was in this situation, except for the after market tires. still have my oems. 😊
Nice. Good to have a flexible dealer👍👍
I have done that many, many times. I have never felt that the other dealer treated me differently. Go for it👍
Go to any Toyota
If the new dealership takes 3 hours then by all means don’t waste your time. BUT if they take 5 minutes and you get to talk trucks while another guy inspects the truck, then there isn’t any harm. Customer service is how the dealership is rated, people want to know if the service department is as good as the sales department.
I don’t think I’ve ever had a dealership do anything in less that 1.5 hours. If you’ve got one that takes 5 minutes (for anything) you’re lucky 👍
Yup!! Gotta watch out for that kind of thing!! 👍
It’s definitely a good program if you can take advantage of it!!! 👍
Up in Canada they change the oil filter but not the oil every 6 months. Oil and filter every 12 months. Must be “due to climate”.
Could be 🤔. They said they wouldn’t change all until 12000 miles or one year when I spoke to them.
Yeah I only take mine in once a year. That 6 month one is a waste of time in my opinion unless you drive double the typical miles.
joe black dealers in Canada do.
I haven't had any problems at my dealership!
Lol!! Caddies are pretty comfy👍
RobMotive Indubitably and mighty good performance if you know what to look for.
And if you’re leasing is like renting, so if it screws up they give you another to drive.
And after you ragged it l, hot riddled it, rode it hard and put it away wet after three years turn it in get another.
Yup!! That’s the way of the lease!!!!!!!👍👍
We have a 3 .5 year old Toy Sienna, 97k miles. We got the use out of Toy Care on that!
Nice👍👍
I have brought my 2018 Tacoma in twice for this and it was about 30 minutes each time. (6mo/5k) and (12mo/10k)
That’s awesome! You have a fast service department 👍
Great info! Love the truck. Thank you.
Thanks Joni. Thanks for watching 👍
I’ve had some say they’ve gone earlier and had it covered. Depends on the dealer I suppose🤔
@@RobMotive I guess I will have to get it and see. It's still a value add to some degree that they include any maintenance at all.
Good deal Jon. Refreshing to hear a positive experience with it👍
If ypuve done 12 services in only 67,000 miles your going to your dealer WAAY too much, they must LOVE you!!
@@motorcitymanman7711 I would hope they love me. They show me plenty of love while I'm there, so I would assume you're right! FFV have a recommended 5k service time compared to the non-FFV 10k. What does FFV mean??
Absolutely! There was no reason for me to go in. I’d have been very unhappy had I spent the time for basically nothing!! So glad I checked first 👍
How many miles r in the truck
Somewhere between 1500 and 2000 if I recall.
It must be your first time buying a new car/truck at a Toyota dealership. I have bought 4 new cars and 1 truck with Toyota, this is just regular maintenance so your car/truck will be working properly, I haven't spent more than 1hr at the dealership when I take my cars for service.
You must have a low volume dealership. One hour in and out is pretty fast 👍
My mileage etc., is pretty similar to yours Rob... but I went in when the service rep called because I was sincerely hoping SHE would check my fluids- if you know what I mean 😎
Lol!!! Now we’re talking about a whole different type of service call!!!!😁
I’m sure you know this, but the purpose of this program is to get you in the door so they can try to upcharge you on other things like new filters, alignments, brakes, tires, etc.
Really? After spending $40,000 on the truck
Oh it’s always about the money👍

I'm good till September 2022, or 125,000 miles on my 2015 Tacoma 5 speed. Definitely worth it.
I have 2020 Toyota Corolla xse Toyota care is not free its $1,050 they put it into the balance of the car and if I'm reading my contract right I got 55,000 miles or 5 years Toyota care ends
I have a 6 year loan but plan to pay off in 3 years uber life
Yup..gotta read that fine print😐
i have never brought a vehicle in for oil changes
i do my own so i know whats going in the motor
I think that’s a good practice 👍
Find a different dealership!!!!, I’m now at 25k miles so far every service has been great where I go, u can always just have them drop u off at home then pick u up I usually do that, the sales guy actually explained to me that about the extended service exactly the way the service guy explained it to u so I’m sure it’s true I’m not gna buy it cuz I’ll just service it myself lol (even though I drive the cap out of it) hahah I’m like at 25k now,
Great topic rob 😁😁
I’ll prob go by the time schedule while I have Toyota Care. Like you though...I’ll not buy the extended plan!! I’ve never paid for an extended service plan. They are really just money makers for the dealership. Thanks for watching man👍👍
They will not "drop you off" and/or "pick you up" anywhere, if it's located outside of the county the dealership is located in. I've dealt with 2 different Toyota dealerships and they will not travel outside of the county in which their dealership is located.
Hmmm...mine in Ohio did. It wasn’t far but it was a different county👍
@@RobMotive Both Toyota dealers told me their insurance policy would not allow them to leave the county. Maybe a lie? The nearest dealer is exactly 16 miles from my house and they said no way to shuttle service (even one way).
Who knows? Perhaps they have some weird policy with the insurance company. All I know is I never had an issue at my dealership in Ohio👍
I think I’m gonna stick with the 5000 mile benchmark or one year...whatever comes first👍
Reason why they call you this because they get $75-$100 from toyota do you think they care about you know it’s all about the money. I go at the 12 months At the 12 months I should be at 10,000 miles and not even that’s why I do my service who cares is for free.
I figured they get something for the service.
Great info!
Rob---> Keepin’ it REAL!!!
Hey Rob, you might as well get your Prostate checked cuz they do have rubber gloves! 🧤🤣🤣🤣
Now that’s not a fun endeavor....😱
They don’t do oil changes at 5k. They go off the manuel of every 10k
I just bought a 2019 tacoma today and it came with the 2 year/20K mile plan. It had a sticker in the window indicating to bring it in at 5000 miles. That's the OCI recommendation where I bought it.
Derek McMurry ask what they’re gonna do when you take it at 5k. Oil change is extra.
@@joseph2marin Ok I will call and reconfirm today but when I was signing yesterday I did ask and I was told OCI every 5K miles included 2 years or 20K miles whatever comes first. I will post once I call and confirm with the dealer
The dealership doesn’t offer courtesy rides to work?
Sure do.
Not if you live outside of the county the dealership is located in. My dealer will not "shuttle" outside of the county they are located in, for any reason, even if it's no fault of your own.
I have had very good experiences at my dealership...Maplewood Toyota (MN).
Awesome 👍
My toyota dealership changed my oil the first time at 2300 miles. Going in again after my trip this week. Great video Rob! -@pdx.taco
That’s the way it should be. Good for you👍
They will lie to you and only will change your oil at 10k!! Way too dam long IMO!! Get this, if you pay for it yourself , they won't even state you need to change it every 10k!! They only want to ruin your car and try to sell you stuff or make your car worse!!
Awesome!!!👍👍👍👍👍😎
Toyota care 👎🏻 at least here in Oregon
Not catching the point of this rant. People should know a little bit about what the dealerships do. Geez, get to know your service manager.
There's no harm in having your tires rotated, even if you only have 2500 miles on it. Have tire pressure checked and adjusted.
Plus, if you use lots of windshield wiper fluid, what the heck, they'll top it off.
If you work from home, you can just work from the dealership. Another plus is that if you go to sell the truck, you can show in the CarFax that you have done all your service done, and done at the dealership. It can literally add a thousand or more to the value of the truck.
I have Toyota Care never waited more then a hour. Hour and 1/2 if they wash it .
That’s amazing!! Never less than 1.5 hours at any dealership for anything!!
Only Toyota care stuff oil tires easy things let’s not git carried away lol
Lol!!! Still...that’s fast for any dealership!!👍
My dealer has an Express facility across the street from the regular garage. They only do Toyota Care oil changes, filters and tire rotations, windsh wipers, fluids, etc. Easy stuff. No appointments, just drive in. Never more then 15 minutes.
Now that would be awesome!!👍
They left me a message and had said I had allegedly made an appointment
Yup! I’ve had that happen too! Kind of irritating 😬
First off...thanks Donna👍. The oil filter should absolutely be changed with every oil change. I’ve seen that adapter. Pretty slick idea👍
Hi Rob, I like your lift where and how much ? Thanks
Thanks. You can get it all for around $3K👍
Just take it to rob haha 😂
Ha!! Then you’d be in trouble!!!!
RobMotive just don’t add sticker and insert hahaha
Just a RobMotive sticker👍
Just take it in at 5K. You will get a free oil change....same at 10K
No free oil change at 5K. They don’t do it until 10K
@@RobMotive Call a different dealer. I got mine at 5K and 10K. Basically for the first 2 years, you get free scheduled maintenance. Oil change interval is every 5K and its free for first 2 years.
I’ll have to check it out. Right now I’m nowhere near 5000 miles👍
Never mind. I checked the scheduled oil interval..its 10K; however, my dealer did a free synthetic change at my 5K service. I have the receipt. LOL
Wow!! That sounds unpleasant!!🥴
I thought it was basically a giant giftcard they sell you, giving you X value in service.
I would change dealerships. I worked in dealerships and have owned nothing but toyotas for years. Your dealership sucks.
Exactly
Total scam, they say free but they wanted to charge me $30 just for fluid check and tire rotation with refusal to change oil at 5,000 miles. When they actually change your oil at 10,000 miles they still charge you $50 with toyota care
Now that’s a bummer!!😐
Good point Rob!
Thanks Jake👍
Oil changes are every 10k miles these new toyotas dont need it every 5k..I enjoy going to dealer for Toyota care gives me time to look at cool new parts and mods:)
Not completely accurate. Flex Fuel capable Toyota's require an oil change every 5k miles.
You must walk a lot lmao. I did buy the extended warranty but I drive quite a bit. My Toyota Care ran out last oil change. It’s all on me now.
Lol!! You better buy an F150 so you can take advantage of their warranty....😁
Moral of the story is, they are a business and they have to make money also. So if you don't need their services don't buy it.
Get a different stealer, the one you got your truck is messed up
i understand what you are saying.
I paid 2400 for my extended warranty. 7 years 100000
Wow! That sounds like a lot to me🤔
I paid $1200 for the same extended warranty.
Wow!! That’s crazy!!! I think I’ll do my own👍
wsmcook damn I knew I got ripped off that piece of shit
I think the price has to do with which vehicle it is. 2016 prius in my case. Gotta go in with confidence and not accepting no to the price you want the vehicle for. 0%apr and got the rebates. (You also need the credit to back up the confidence)
Boring as hell
Sound alike you and gear runner have idiots at your local Toyota. Whom ever answers phone should have knowledge of what services they provide.
I was pretty. Amazed at his lack of knowledge for sure.
@@RobMotive I've bought 3 or 4 vehicles from this Toyota dealership I got to in And.out in a hr. For service. And just stellar customer service and same service tech going on 6 years or so. Suck hear it's not company wide.
That’s good to hear. Hard to find a reliable service department where the techs stick around that long👍
My god man, you made a 10 minute video about arguing with the dealer about bringing the truck in for a 5k mile checkup... pointless.
Hey Morgan...Thanks for watching 👍
I’m sure glad I read the comments as the video started. Saved some time!!
