Thank you so much for reviewing the 4060, TH-camrs are alway reviewing the high end models and leave out the mid range models. Sometimes we are looking for something on the go, and dont need the review on the higher end models. Lenovo should let you keep it btw lol.
per key rgb in white chassis is looks fantastic! thats the reason I got my slim 7i though it is last year version with intel 13th gen, but i glad they bring the glacier to my country. I appreciate that they put HX processor now, but little disappointing about usb A only 5 gbps now (last year all three usb A are 10 gbps).

Yes, me too. I bought the Intel version (2023) and immediately sold it. For me, the coolers were a little loud when gaming. This may not be critical for some, but I’m already used to a quieter laptop, so I’m waiting for the AMD version.

I had purchased this device from Best Buy about 2 weeks ago. It was great...to a point. My device could not sit on my desk mat or it would heat up and throttle. When I removed the mat from my desk and sat the device on the desk, it stayed fairly cool. I could have it on my lap while sitting, watching TV, but the device would throttle. Also, the case made a creaking noise when opening and closing. I took the laptop back for the case noise. To be fair, if Best Buy had another in stock, I would have just exchange the device. I ended up purchasing a Legion Pro 7i directly from Lenovo. It has been great thus far.

Hey, how is the keyboard temperature during silent mode gaming? Last year was way too hot (even in idle)
Thanks for the video. I just upgraded the memory in my new 2024 Legion 7i. I also went from 32GB to 64GB (I used for my case Crucial RAM 64GB Kit (2x32GB) DDR5 5600MHz ). I must mention that when you start the laptop, screen will be blank for few minutes while it recognizes the new memory. Just wait and it should work.

Hey Beau! Great review. I heard people saying the i9 14900HX can throttle on this laptop, would you still recommend that version or the i7 14700HX version instead for gaming and content creation?
Rather concerned about throttling and the i9 causing less power with certain games etc. heard it can drop to a 40W? With the 4070?

Thank you for the great review. You dug a little deeper into this laptop than most reviewers. I've been wanting to replace my five year old HP Spectrum, which I love for it's touch screen and build quality. I wanted something with a little more umph for CAD work and gaming without too much bulk and this Legion 7i seems to fit the bill. Upgradeability is important to me and this 7i has that too. I found a great deal on one for US$1660.00 with 32Gb RAM, 1 TB storage, 240Hz display, and 4070 GPU. I'll probably add another 1 or 2 TB SSD later.
Dual nvme and upgradeable ram is awesome since it allows future upgrades (lowers initial buy in cost)

Do you think the 2025 legion series would go with Core ultra CPUs and would have 50 series GPUs?
They will definitely have 5000 series. As for cpu unsure. I’d suspect core ultra or new strix point AMD but hard to say
@techguybeau I wonder how much memory you can upgrade this laptop to? 64? Or can it handle 96? And which would you choose for hybrid work (Premiere Pro / After Effects / Photoshop) and play: the Yoga Pro 9i or the Legion 7i?
I know it can handle 64gb at 5200 b/c I upgraded mine last week. 96gb could work but I would imagine the speed would drop to 4800.

@@robertkamer1820yes, I tried the new gigabyte Aorus and hp omen transcend 14, last years Lenovo legion pro 7i ,asus rog stirs, and asus studio book and returned all of these for different reasons. The 7i does not disappoint and runs Ubuntu 24.04 in a second hard drive like a champ.
Thoughts on this vs Yoga Pro 9i for hybrid gaming / programming / professional? Im torn and also curious about battery life in comparison to the yoga because occasional time away from charger is great.
Ah, the eternal question. You are asking the exact same question that I am torn over…
The yoga has a bit of a better screen with the MiniLED, and is for some reason cheaper this year. The legion 7i will come down In price, and is awesome with the 3.2k screen.
The yoga has slightly better speakers too but the legion has a bit more raw power. It’s a though one.
If the price was identical I’d probably take the yoga if not doing pure gaming. The legion might get a lot cheaper than the yoga in the long run

Thanks for the review. Which is quieter in slient mode legion 7i or slim 5 amd which you reviewed last week?
They are about the same. Both run very quiet. AMD typically performs a bit better in silent mode overall as the chip is much more efficient
Just ordered this finally on a good deal after watching this video a good few times (and maybe a few others) with 32 GB of RAM and 240 Hz screen w/ 500 nits. Looking forward to getting in touch with it Alas soon as I'm back from my trip. Also here's to hoping I can upgrade the WiFi card in it from 6E to 7.
The Lenovo website says it already has WiFi 7.
Just wow. This laptop checks all my boxes. Bright screen, high resolution, reasonably sized power brick, upgradeable RAM, two NVME slots, USB-C charging, good gaming GPU & CPU, reasonably quiet. It might be the first laptop I would buy that was not on sale.

i kind of wish I had waited for this. I really needed a laptop (the sound died on my old Yoga 920) and went with the 2023 G14 (which is a great machine) - I just like the way this looks a little more - and it's screen is larger (my eyesight is so bad). Thanks for the review - letting me know what I missed - lol.
Very tempting. I was eyeing the G16 yesterday for $1700 with $100 promo credit too. So $1600 effectively. I think that was a good buy but I’d be missing some performance.
I wish this would go on sale already because the Pro 7i with 4080 is only $50 more and I’d go with that despite it being a little thicker and heavier.

just make sure you get a g16 with 32gb of ram, otherwise you are wasting your money

@@Promikes I would buy it immediately for its 3600 euro price. So yes... they would make good money, because the Legion 7 Slim was sold out, means if the Pro gen 9 has this chassis, full alu, white with R9 and new RTX 5090... they earn alot, it will be sold out soon too.
Hey there, awesome review as usual! Quick question: Have you encountered any charging port issues with the Legion series released in the last 2-3 years? I've heard a bunch about Legions having some serious charging port problems where it gets loose or something, resulting in the laptop not charging properly and needing the motherboard replaced.
I’ve actually never had this issue. Then again I am gentle with my electronics. Got to treat them well

No, the legion 5 pro has better cooling, you’ll see a comparison in my upcoming comparison videos
If pure gaming get a legion, if mixed use the yoga 9i is nice (as it still can game, but the performance tuning doesn’t match the legion)
@@TechGuyBeau thank you. I think i will get the 5 pro with rtx 4070, 14700hx, 1 tb, 32gb RAM with dci-p3 Display. It costs 1800 Euro in Germany. Only downside is that i had the 2023 Legion 5 pro with coil whine. So i retoured it.

This review came at the perfect time. I'm deciding between the Pro 5i and 7i. If my focus was pure power and performance, which one would you suggest I go for. I plan to use it for rendering in blender and video editing in Da Vinci resolve. I'm leaning towards the Pro 5i since it has a higher TDP. But the plastic build and lack of Thunderbolt kinda sucks.
The pro 5i is simply faster. You will see that in my comparative review that comes out soon
The “slim” 7 is more premium and portable. The pro 5i is faster even with a lower tier cpu

The 4090 refurbs for the legion pro 7 with the 13900HX are at about 2149$ USD , snagged a new 4080 model from ant-online , however kinda wishing I waited a month to see the sale 😅 but that 4080 will be WAAAAY MORE than enough for me I’m sure. Beau i need to ask a thing about the 7i, i read somewhere on reddit about the battery life being bad even for simple things. What was your experience like with this?
Battery life isn’t great on the hx chips yeah
You can help it a lot by disabling a lot of startup apps, I recommend NOT using GeForce experience. Dynamic resolution switch in display mode helps too a lot.
Windows is a hog and will keep waking up the system
One other thing: I HIGHLY recommend going into “gaming” settings and telling it which apps to use the iGPU specifically. Windows will constantly wake up the rtx graphics for no reason. This is especially true in internet browsers. Set your browser to specifically use the iGPU and watch your battery life go way up

no one knows. Nvidia might delay the 5000 series release by a bit, breaking the 2 year update cycle. I need a new laptop and I won't wait almost one year for it, and the 4060 is really good anyway

7i - better raw performance. More rugged. More ports.
Both are great. The 3.2 k screen on the r legion is a great screen. It won’t match the mini LED but it’s amazing anyways. It’s also non glossy

That is extremely hard to answer. They are very very close. For raw performance and chassis design the legion wins, for sure. But the miniLED on the yoga 9i is amazing

I hesitate between this one and... MSI Vector 16. Actually after CES I was pretty sure I will choose Lenovo when it finally came out, but now I'm leaning towards Vector. Pretty good price, promising review on Notebookcheck and surprisingly good screen.
The vector is nice, but the higher resolution screen is a must.

What if I buy the 3.2k model and then reduce the resolution to 1600p for gaming only would I notice a difference compared to a native 1600p ?
Don’t need to do that, just use DLSS.

The 7i (slim) is basically the second best windows laptop speakers, with the first being the 7i pro/thinkbook 16p (same speakers)
They are both amazing, truly, but the winner is the Thinkbook objectively.

Hey bro if you remember couple weeks ago I asked if I should buy the new Legion 7i or Yoga pro 9i, even though you told me to pick up the Yoga I found myself attracted to the Legion 7i and what it offered, but thanks for doing a review of both, I also picked up the eclipse black instead of white as I dont see the white being a laptop I carry around for the next 4-5 years without it grabbing extra attention and potentially looking dirty over time
These two laptops are my two favourites and I am always going back and forth on which i prefer. I often gravitate towards the legion 7 (slim) though

It doesn’t get that hot if you game in balanced mode.
Also, there is nothing wrong with laptops getting hot (although that can lead to throttling). If it runs well but warm it’s fine
I really prefer balanced mode as it’s quiet and cool. He’ll even silent mode in many cases

I bought two of these laptops and they both have the same defect - cracking/buzzing noise from the right speaker. Has anyone else noticed this? Seems like an issue with the whole series...

The battery life is okay, I show it in the benchmarks. It won’t beat AMD in any way when it comes to battery.
The new 8845hs AMD chip totally solves the bugs that the 7845hs chip had. Might be worth waiting for a legion with that if battery matters. The 7i intel is a performance monster though

I’m getting about 2.25 hours with light use on balance. Quiet mode can push the battery further but not by much.

Make sure you have Lenovo vantage installed. You can also download the fn+q software directly from Lenovo on their driver page for your laptop

I still prefer 2023 port arrangement but that change to RAM placement is nice.
I need to upgrade my Laptop from my 2020 Rog Strix G 15. I have three laptops in mind
1. Zephyrus G 14 - Maxed out RTX 4070.
2. Alienware M 16 R2 - Maxed out RTX 4070
3. Lenovo LEgion 7i - Maxed out RTX 4070.
Now I don't wanna go above RTX 4070 because of my budget and yes screen size is okay with me in any of the three. Which one is the best option for gaming and working?
The g14 is overpriced. Only consider that if you absolutely need a 14”.
The Alienware is really nice, a bit thicker but it has great performance .
The legion 7i is the perfect all rounder, being thin, all metal, and not sacrificing performance.
My advice would be the legion as I prefer multi use hybrid laptops with more premium features. Also consider that Lenovo will have the best sale prices of these.
@@TechGuyBeau Thanks for the help man. Myfirst gaming laptop was an HP and the second one was an ROG Strix. Personally I prefered the G 14 cause of Rog but yes I'll give Legion a shot now.

Performance is great but
I am facing a issue with mine i9 14hx rtx 4060. while scaling the display from 200% to 225% it automatically changes to 200% each time after restarting the PC.
Can anyone help?
That could be nvidia driver issues. They aren’t great.
I’d recommend trying studio drivers

@@Harry-_Potter I guess I'll have to open my 7i and check it when it arrives in a few days. In the meantime, Amazon here in the States offer Intel WiFi 7/BT 5.4 cards for around US$30.
@@Waltkat no use of WiFi 7 until we need 1gbps as all my thinks gets sorted under 500mbps and also I have only 200Mbps connection so that is enough for me now till 2026 and in India I think to get 1Gbps under every budget will take atleast 3-4 years 😊
What is the difference between legion pro 5i and 7i ( both 2024) they are nearly identical but the 7i is a little bit expensive 😅

If you are in balanced or silent the speakers are vastly louder than the fans. I have a full gaming video coming where I test several demanding titles. Stay tuned for that

A perfect machine for coders who need powerful cpu, gpu, and a good resolution screen to look at text without squinting the eyes. unlike gamming i dont need to give me the best fps for 1-2 hours, so with less cooling at better portability is perfect. Just waiting for it to go on sale, ~2400 USD is insane, a reasonable price would be

does the 2024 legion 7 suffer from the same microstuttering problem the 2023 version had?
I don’t notice any. Also do you game on performant mode? I usually recommend not doing that on really any laptop these days

@@sethterwilliger9434 Everyone is different so I think you need to see for yourself if it stutters or not and if so, if it bothers you. I've watched review videos where the reviewer was going on and on (and on...) about how bad the stuttering was on a particular laptop and I didn't notice anything while watching the same video of the game. And if there where a bit of stuttering that I noticed, it didn't bother me at all. Guess I'm just not sensitive to things like that.
Still on the fence with the white vs black.. I can just imagine the palm rest starting to wear and discolor after a couple years.
