Is the maximum ram 32? Or is expandable to 64?
Also I hope you do gaming test with this legion like you did to other legions you got.

I just got mine with the 3.2k dci-p3 screen, 4060 and i9. This is a GORGEOUS laptop like you said. I do photo and video work and this display is just so so nice after only using 1080p for years and a crappy 70% srgb screen. The build feels substantial, the charger is heavy af, but man that touchpad is just pleasing to use and the keyboard feels unlike any laptop keyboard I've used before. I got mine certified refurbished from Lenovo outlet for $1250 pretax and using the cash I saved to throw a 990 pro 4tb and upgrade the ram (debating just doing 32gb because I'm not sure the 64 is really worth it for my uses realistically since I'm only seldomly doing intensive layer work in Photoshop and only do basic edits and transitions in DaVinci.) coming from a budget IdeaPad from 2019, this is a massive upgrade for me. Can't complain at all for the specs and price. I tried the Asus p16 at best buy and it also has a beautiful display but being capped at 60hz I felt it just didn't look for feel as good to use when you could have nearly 4k at 165hz for a lot cheaper.

  • @Waltkat

Thank you for the great review. You dug a little deeper into this laptop than most reviewers. I've been wanting to replace my five year old HP Spectrum, which I love for it's touch screen and build quality. I wanted something with a little more umph for CAD work and gaming without too much bulk and this Legion 7i seems to fit the bill. Upgradeability is important to me and this 7i has that too. I found a great deal on one for US$1660.00 with 32Gb RAM, 1 TB storage, 240Hz display, and 4070 GPU. I'll probably add another 1 or 2 TB SSD later.

Gave it to my son when I saw this thing. This machine may have convinced me that Intel ain’t bad. Gonna upgrade OS to 11 Pro so I can configure it the way I want. Ah, the eternal question. You are asking the exact same question that I am torn over…
The yoga has a bit of a better screen with the MiniLED, and is for some reason cheaper this year. The legion 7i will come down In price, and is awesome with the 3.2k screen.
The yoga has slightly better speakers too but the legion has a bit more raw power. It’s a though one.

Legion 7i Gen9, Cyberpunk QHD ultra with 4070 on silent mode: GPU 65 Watt 35 FPS 38,4 dB(A)
Legion has better cooling which is why it should be more silent at the same TGP level. Mind you that this is already the lowest power mode on the legion - there is also a silent mode on the yoga at 22W TGP at which you cannot really play demanding games but which is bettter suited for light tasks (e.g. keyboard/bottom will stay more cool and it will run even more silent, also because of the less demanding CPU)

Got mine 5 days ago. Read all about it prior to purchase, but man this thing can get really hot when under load, at least initially. A good stand with ample space around is a must. I had mine clean without any bloatware and after installing w11 pro and delicate tweaking in custom mode it hits the following in cinebench r24:
    Multi - core: 1508
    Single - core: 131
It throttles initialy as mentioned in the video but for this chassis and spec, sustained 95W Total Package - I consider those good results. With a little bit of advanced undervolting cooling could take more beating, maybe even sustained 105W.

Asus and Razer would've been competition if they didn't have a plethora of problems. I wouldn't mind spending extra on the style of the G16 and Blade, but the qc is atrocious.

When I removed the mat from my desk and sat the device on the desk, it stayed fairly cool. I could have it on my lap while sitting, watching TV, but the device would throttle. Also, the case made a creaking noise when opening and closing. I took the laptop back for the case noise. To be fair, if Best Buy had another in stock, I would have just exchange the device.
