  • I check the dwell, timing, mixture and more. The test drive ends in a surprising way.

    My friends dad had a 1970-71? f-150 a long time ago. He took me for a ride around 1980. It was in still in mint condition with manual steering and no AC. My father who was never a big fan of P/U trucks fell in love with it. He owned big Chrysler Newports and Imperial's yet this Ford impressed him, that says something. My dad was a Sargent and in charge of the motor pool in the Korean war. He had a world of knowledge about cars that was amazing. I always wanted to learn from him but he never had the patience or time. He took complete engines out and did everything for friends and family. You remind me of him with your deep knowledge. I just wish he had your demeanor. I would've learned so much from him. When I watch your videos, I picture him standing there telling me. I just turned 60 but I'm a kid again hearing my dad teach me the way I always wanted, Its hard to explain. Anyway thank you so much for taking the time and patience, Its priceless.

      @@whattherust ok thanks. I have a 1970 Ford Ranger XLT I bought about 6 years ago to tinker with. It’s been at a guys garage for 4 of those. I asked him to get it running and to the point I could get it out and drive it and use it some. I’m going to get it and bring it back home so I was searching for some videos on the basics. This was super helpful. I know just enough to be dangerous 😆. Watched some of your other stuff, particularly the Ford trucks.

    When you take that Vacuum gauge off, do you put a cap over the spigot? Else you will have a vacuum leak there.

    You have to do the slosh test... turn down the radio at low speed work the steering wheel back and forth listen how much fuel is sloshing back and forth giving you an idea how much fuel you have lol from the days of my youth in the 70s.

      Nope I have had several gm square body Chevy trucks and we rocked the truck back and forth to see how much gas was in them since most of them have antisiphon fuel doors in filler neck.. and at the time I didn't know you could get a decent working sending unit new online...since the only two trucks that I had that had working gas gauges they were working when I acquired the trucks ..

    • @richardbates2367
      @richardbates2367 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      And my daily driver had a cleaned and penetrate lubed sending unit from a junkyard donor truck and it worked....

    One thing I saw in another video with one of these trucks was he pulled out the fuel float guage and cleaned the contacts that set within the tank (and replaced the float itself). Cleared the issue right up!
