  • Sharon Lowen has dedicated her life to presenting and promoting excellence in Indian performing arts. Sharon is hailed today as one of the leading international performing artists of three forms of Indian dance: Odissi, Chhau and Manipuri.
    Topic: Transformational Storytelling Through Dance
Description: Indian classical dance evokes the inner truths that we all share through stories brought to life. It celebrates a spiritual consciousness, combining dramatic expression with rhythm and movement. This talk will demonstrate how the dance metaphor in Indian mythology aims to transform understanding of our inner and outer worlds.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

I met Sharon more than 30 years ago in Los Angeles. She performed at our ISKCON temple, and was greatly appreciated. I love her deep abhinaya and bhava through Odissi dance. Thank you Sharon, for your dedication to Indian classical dance, and sharing with the world, some of the culture and philosophy of India.

I think "missjreneed" completely misunderstood Sharon's explanantion of the interpretation of indian dance forms. She was merely trying to put the dance form in context with it's spiritual tradition without denigrating any other dance form...

A beautiful dancer, but Sonal Mansingh's understanding and explanation of Indian dance, culture and religions is far more profound and insightful!

Really! You say that by listening to her single Ted Talk? Dont tell me you think this is all she knows because this is all you have come across from her! Have you ever spoken to her or read her books?

she and her expertise at her craft are very beautiful. however, i resent her analysis of the dances of other places in the world. indian dance is not by far the only type for which her descriptions are true. although her descriptions are true for indian dance. it might serve her better to only explain indian dance without comparing and contrasting it against the traditions of others.

Why dont you tell us about other forms that come from scriptures dating thousands of years. That's what she compared other dances with. Natraj , Lord of dance is Shiva. Please let is know which other dances have that connect.
