    Be careful with smart luggage. The last time I went to board a plane they did announce any smart luggage is not permitted. Any luggage you need to or can plug in, can cause you problems at the airport.

    Samantha Brown has way more affordable luggage that does more or less the same and is really nice looking. I would never pay that much for luggage considering how beat up it gets when travelling. I have Samantha Brown luggage and get compliments every time I travel with it. And, it didn't break the bank. Just sayin! I will say that the grey duffle with the built in garment bag is genius. I'll wait for a knock off version.

    Please know, that Ryanair (important if you want to fly cheap in Europe) changed the carry on rules. In economy class is only a personal item 40×25×20cm allowed. But you can book priority so you are allowed to have a carry on with you. But I must admit, who can afford these luggage can easily fly with priority or other airlines.

We travel with 2 large luggage 1 backpack, 1 tote and 3 of my kids each carry a backpack that has their blanket and snack as toys. Remember small children travels with car seats.

      I got a couple of great new hard side wheeled carry on cases for $79.90 Canadian at Winners (part of TJMaxx group)!
      I took my tape measure shopping though. Most of the measurements WERE OFF by a lot.
      But I came away with these by SwissGear & they said 8” thick but measurements were 8-1/2” and fully packed they balloon up to just under the critical 9”. The measurements for height with wheels AND handles is 21” so no problem there.
      The width was stated as 14” but actually it was almost 15” side to side.
      The carryon measurements for Air Canada are 9x15-1/2x21-1/2” and WestJet is 9x15x21”.
      They fit fine. But take your tape measure with you when shopping.
      All the others were over their stated measurements some by a LOT!

    I do carryon only trips up to 3 weeks long. I’ve done so for decades now, back when it was a 10kg or 22 lb weight limit. The information is misleading.
    That first one by Heys won’t be allowed. Too thick. 9” MAX! And possibly too tall.
    The battery isn’t allowed and that scale adds weight. Buy a separate scale if you must, & use it for ALL your luggage rather than built in to each one.
    What this “expert” glossed over was that the suitcase manufacturers measurements often don’t include the wheels & worse yet don’t measure at the large points.
    Take a tape measure when buying. Go home & use your own scale. You will be SHOCKED!
    Then KEEP THE RECEIPTS and go to your local airport and put it thru the size thing.
    Better to find out & get the money back BEFORE showing up at the gate and being told it won’t fit the carryon size restrictions.
    Air Canada is 9” x 15 1/2” x 21 1/2” and handles and wheels included. The personal item is 6” x 13” x 17”.
    WestJet carry-on luggage is 21" x 9" x 15". 53 cm x 38cm x 23 cm. The personal item is limited to 16" x 6" x 13".
    Neither have a weight restriction now but you have to be able to lift it up without help & fit it into the overhead or under the seat in front.
    Next consider a purse that has a sleeve as she showed to fit over the handlebar of the carryon to help make it thru tight connections at a dead run without bouncing off your body. I have a light nylon one for that purpose by Eagle Creek. Don’t bother with heavy bags like she showed if you’re likely to need to make tight connections. And wear shoes you can run in.
    And that kiddie one looks terrific till you hit turbulence and all loose items MUST be stowed under the seat in front.
    Last of all the expensive cream luggage had a “liquids “ bag!!!!! The first time you try going through security you’ll be holding up the line as they make you take it ALL out & fit it into their smaller than allowed clear plastic bag.
    Better use your medium ziplock freezer bag (a quart) ahead of time.
    That way you won’t have to part with some items to make it all fit in their bag.
    AND bonus, you won’t get pulled aside for the full check where EVERYTHING gets the look over.
    Also the first time that cream bag gets gate checked or worse yet not allowed as carry on, it will be destroyed. It’s around $1500 after taxes you can kiss goodbye!

      The battery is allowed in carry on, it's not allowed in checked luggage.

      Also the heys carryon is 9" thick according to their website, so is in allowance.

    • @kamloopscruiser874
      @kamloopscruiser874 5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Shelby Chanel I’ve sadly trusted Heys & other good brands listed measurements on websites, store tags etc & on Amazon - and taken them home - only to find out that 9” at the top is 9-1/2 at the bottom. Or 21&1/2 tall doesn’t quite fully account for the handle or the wheels. Or the 9” unpacked is 9-1/2” packed.
      I have learnt by bitter experience it’s best to go under those crucial measurements especially that width. That’s the opening for the overhead bins.
      Which is why nobody should trust the measurements- they need to tape measure for themselves or order online realizing that they might have to do an annoying return
      Heys is a great brand, they’ve survived a lot of abuse in my travels.
      but the guy who takes tickets at our airport takes joy in his work.
      Before Air Canada stopped the 22lb 10 kg limit he made us repack between husband and I AND re weighed it all. On several occasions. Once I was over by 3 oz. My home scale was ok.
      And now he loves his tape measure. The others weren’t bad but he usually works the early flights for Air Canada & he is a great one for taking carryon luggage and converting it to checked bags which enriches Air Canada.
      And yes such people exist all over. Especially on the budget airlines actually. Not just AC. RyanAir, WOW, Spirit etc do a booming business making sure your so called carry on is now checked luggage at a cost of course.
      As for the batteries the ones they worry about are the lithium ions. I get that these are the ok type - but it’s still gonna take time explaining once you’ve been pulled over.
      Again experienced fliers don’t wanna get into arguments at the ticket counter or the gate.
      You might be right & can succeed in winning your argument but if you miss a flight as a result it can ruin your trip so best to avoid the problem altogether.
      Our cardinal rule is not to raise anybody’s red flags.
      I’ve bumped into all kinds of people who work there, and most are terrific intelligent people but sometimes......
      It’s best to avoid the problem altogether.

      Catchows if you’re cabin crew or someone who travels more than half the year it can be a good investment if the quality is good. My first year as cabin crew I tried to get by with a cheaper 150€ carry on case, and within 2 months it was goooonnnee. If I have to spend 150€ every two months then it would make sense to get a more expensive one that you replace once every 1,5-3 years. Anyway. I still get it. Buying the 150€ one was already like oh wow that’s a lot, so buying the second set for 800€ was like almost soul crushing, but 4 years later I still have it and it’s still working perfectly and looks quite new still

Some of these pieces shown on the show are simply very expensive. Luggage takes a lot of abuse depending on the type and amount of travel. I have even had a "nice" bag get wet from someone who spilled drink in the row in front. Anyway it is personal preference but still interesting that they did not talk about price on the show!!

      Amanda Head they sure do! I was shocked at the advice coming from that “expert”. If she & Tracy have flown as much as they implied that’s almost the first thing they should point out.
      Even if you have TSA pre check or Nexxus where they don’t bother checking for the TSA liquid allowance bag in the States anymore.
      They still can, & in Canada they always do!!!!
      I was in the Nexxus check in Vancouver & as we sailed through I saw a young American pulled aside in near tears, panicking over missing her flight because she was a TSA precheck traveller & hadn’t bothered with a liquid allowance bag.
      Last I saw she was going through her whole bag, tossing expensive skin care and hair care in oversized containers and trying to fit her remaining small stuff into the official Canadian clear bag which I’ve tested as a lot smaller than a litre size ziplock.

    • @DominoBK
      @DominoBK 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The color of the bag does not matter the size and ounces are whats important. TSA uses an x-ray machine for viewing whats inside bags.

    • @kamloopscruiser874
      @kamloopscruiser874 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      DominoBK the liquid allowance bag is only allowed to be a clear see through zip lock type bag and limited to the 1 litre or 1 quart size.
      The ziplock Medium size freezer bag is a good example of what is allowed.
      If the screeners decide they don’t like your clear bag or you try using that little opaque cube inside the light colour bag you WILL be pulled over for a full check. PLUS they’ll hand you one of their clear bags & make you fit all your little 100 ml or less bottles into it.
      The liquid bag must be pulled out in the tray provided. If you have Nexxus or TSA precheck you can leave the clear bag in your luggage BUT you MUST be able to pull it on request.
      If they use their X-ray machine & see liquids INSIDE your bag that aren’t in the outside tray in the clear plastic ziplock you WILL be pulled aside.
      And they don’t care if you’re running late, might miss your flight, have a tight connection etc.
      You win the airport Darwin Award then & good luck with making your flight!

    • @amandah2490
      @amandah2490 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      DominoBK that must be a very recent change as I have just been reading a Jan 2019 travel site (American) that says containers with liquids must be carried in a clear quart size bag.

    Matt&Nat (mattandnat.com) has a bag, the ZAM, similar to the one by Hook&Albert (the one that opens flat) for a fraction of the price. The only "downside" is the bag has a more masculine look but is still stylish and practical nonetheless.

      Even if you found it affordable, is it actually worth that? I can think of lots of other travel related things on which I would prefer to spend my money.
      Additionally, what if you do spend all that money and then find the bag doesn't suit your needs?
      I spent a lot of time travelling in my 20s, several times for 3/4 months at a stretch. I never wanted to use a backpack because of shoulder problems. I found the most useful thing was a weightless sausage shaped duffle bag. It held enough for the long trips, but added no weight in itself, and it was easy to access everything in it.
