Not a fan of PAP but Eric has got to be one of the best MP out there. Met him on a few occasions and he is an extremely kind person who holds genuine interest in people.

this is such an important topic to talk about. the less taboo this topic becomes, the better it is for people to talk about their struggles and seek help as well.

I feel that in order to have difficult conversations with your children, you need to have a strong rapport and relationship with them in the first place. My advice to young parents is to focus on building strong bonds with your children from a young age. I'd like to reccommend a book "Hold On To Your Kids - why parents need to matter more than peers" by Gordon Neufeld.
I agree with Dan that we need to make a conscious and deliberate effort to learn more about parenting. Sometimes, instincts are not enough - especially in modern society today. We only know how to parent based on how our parents raised us but unfortunately, the generational gap is ever widening and the way we were raised is not so relevant to today's tech-savvy kids.
Read widely about the many styles, approaches and theories on parenting and have many little discussions with your spouse on what resonates with you so that you can both come to an agreement on your parenting approaches and attitudes.

Agree! We need to be intentional and active with our time spent with our children. Thanks for the book recommendation ❤

To John’s point about whether ppl are addicted to porn or masturbation. I think while not impossible, it is quite difficult to be addicted to masturbation, because it is an internal thing, it just means you have a high sex drive. Of course one shouldn’t be masturbating in inappropriate places. lol. Whereas porn is an external stimulus, even people with generally low sex drive can become addicted to porn because it artificially arouses them. It artificially creates a dopamine rush. So they might not be in the mood, but start watching porn anyway and end up being aroused and start masturbating. And with addictions, you need more and more of the stimulus to get the same rush, I don’t think this is possible with normal masturbation without porn.

There are actually porn that depicts normal sex with consent and intimacy and there is a world wide trend towards this kind of porn. Not every type of porn is twisted porn and not necessary the more twisted the more views.

I feel that the issue is many people start out watching "vanilla" porn. But after a while, the threshold to get excited gets higher and some people need to seek greater thrill in watching twisted porn. Our human mind can get quite quickly desensitised and need to seek greater thrill. When even twisted porn cannot satiate the desire, that's when some men turn to crime. That's when the downward spiral begins. I'm not saying that all men who watch porn will become addicted to porn or become sex offenders - just like not everyone who smokes and drinks get addicted to them either. But porn addiction is a real issue that needs to be addressed urgently. Porn is so readily available and accessible. Moreover, watching porn has been a normalised behaviour among men that many don't see that it is a problem. The first step to solving a problem is acknowledging that it is a problem in the first place.

But it still creates an artificial dopamine rush. So I still wouldn’t recommend it.
