what did they get after demonetisation? The entire country came to a standstill and many died, black money pakadne nikle they but ghanta mila kuch. They also stopped printing new 2k notes. Its all in the expense of taxpayers money. One reason people don't care about institutions might be because these institutions haven't gained trust and respect of people to begin with. Most Indians would rather not see face of court, police or a government officer it they could help it. Lot of times grassroot political leaders are born out of people who help citizens to solve their problems without going to these "institutions".
Demonetization showed Modi as being capable of making tough decisions. It resulted in great shift towards digitalmoayments which in itself alone oa aufficiw t to justify it. A victory is outcome of superior performance in a given situation. Congress had faltered continuously in its 2nd term from 2009-2014 when nothing happened. The country went back to 5% GDP growth. There was overall policy paralysis. Inflation was mounting. And governance went to sleep and it was virtually absent.

It's laughable to hear Mr. Singhvi talking about Rahul Gandhi about economic problems, and Man Mohan Singh being responsible for economic reforms. There lies, the basic fundamental problem with lutyen media. Rahul wants, old pension scheme, freebies, public sector etc. all of which are totally failed ideas. some like old pension scheme have been opposed by even Rahul supporters like former RBI governor Raghuram Rajan. Secondly, it's PV Narasima Rao's reforms of 1991 (without Mr. Rao making Man Mohan Singh FM and providing full support against opposition by family loyalists, nothing would have happened. Man Mohan Singh himself wrote about those years as FM), Vajpayee reforms, Modi reforms, that made India of today. in fact, Man Mohan Singh as PM was NOT allowed to carry out reforms during UPA years, which is why India became fragile five in 2013 and led to Modi victory in 2014.
Demonetization was great reform and India's covid handling is much much better than America and China (just look at deaths, inflation or deflation in their economies).
