In the UK, if the vehicle has been damaged and they are both drivable with both parties at the scene, exchange details and let the insurance deal.
If they speed off without stopping and you have details, pass them to the police and they will investigate but also contact your insurance as they will assist.
If they speed off and you have no details for the other party, insurance will deal. They may find out who was involved, and if they do, they will contact police to notify them.
If the vehicles can not be moved and are blocking the road, call the police as they will clear the road and also call your insurance.
If you are injured, call the police and your insurance.
If you believe the other party is drunk, call the police and your insurance.
In short, always call your insurance. They will do all the leg work.
Only call the police if it is serious, you or the other party is injured, they are drunk, or they run off, but you have the details.
Oh, and if it is in a car park, something similar, call your insurance, as the police won't deal. The insurance will be able to see if there is CCTV and then contact the police to assist.

And take pictures of the inside of the house once you've moved in and email them to yourself with landlord/agent cc'd in. The at fault driver went around the corner, called the cops and claimed a hit and run. The cop could see the other car around the corner, who had dash cams. Also was at a traffic light, with cameras. Story 3- Damn, she was nuts! I can't believe she seemed to have so much hate for him when he didn't do anything wrong to her (that we know of). The fact she got real petty is one thing but OP mentioned she left the kid's beds (it didn't click that he had children till I heard that) and she took all the food out of the house and even tried to get his electricity cut off knowing that? Yes, everything she did was crazy but it takes a certain kind of evil person to do that kind of stuff knowing there is children involved. Plus, I think OP is so lucky she didn't have someone assault him or worse by how crazy she sounds. She was clearly trying to screw him over anyway she could and it doesn't seem far fetched for someone like that to lie to someone and say how he abused her to get them to attack him for her. Glad to hear he got out of that situation. That car being repossessed by mistake was probably the best thing that happened to him because he got rid of her. I'm sure it would have been worse if they were together than those 4 yrs.

Last story: Lots of relationships are imbalanced and still work. If one person works while the other takes care of the kids, everyone thinks that's fine. If one is smart but introverted while the other is a social butterfly, they complete each. But for some reason modern Western society throws this out the window when the imbalance is related to age, looks, or nationality.
There are a lot of people living in economically depressed parts of the world who are happy to marry someone a decade older than them to have a better life for themselves and their (eventual) children. And there's nothing wrong with this.
The problem is when one person lies, cheats, or uses the imbalance to be controlling or abusive. If you removed the cheating from the last story, there would be nothing wrong with a 30-year-old guy marrying a 22-year-old girl and helping her with her green card. So why is HE partly at fault because of something SHE did?

Definitely take photos of both cars from all angles and make sure to highlight the actual damage caused by the accident! Though I'm fully comp so would just let the insurance sort it out.
In the UK I wrote off my car and another person's (weird accident, no one was hurt but I wrecked the front axles of both cars so they were cat c write offs I think) and I only lost one year no claim (I had 5 years no claim bonus) and my premium didn't increase 🤷🏻‍♀️

that was interesting direction to go with the landlord keeping a deposit. usually you sue and get your money back, but this sigma said "ok keep my deposit, but I'm gonna do enough 'damage' that will cost more than that to undo"

    • @ffyrestarr
      @ffyrestarr ปีที่แล้ว +1

Sounded like really informal deal. Paying deposit in cash is usually a big no-no here in UK as lack of evidence and most deposits paid into a special bank account. Maybe no formal lease? If it was an informal arrangement would have been a hassle getting money back and he's a well paid ex-forces tradesman so probably isn't hurting for the £1500 or whatever for the deposit. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    Story 2 -
Like OP, I’m not a lawyer, but after hearing this story I think that one of the best things OP did was to not only create a hard copy, written contract (that was signed etc) but then after the guy signed it, OP took a photograph of the signed contract and then sent the image to the guy.
Without that photo being taken and sent, the guy could have denied 🙅🏽 that he had ever seen or signed anything. He could have said that it wasn’t his signature wah wah wah etcetera.
So, yeah, good move OP. Good move indeed

Last story- OP was not naive. They had a long distance relationship, would meet at vacation destinations, he would go there for a couple of weeks and there was times where she would come to the US for several weeks at a time. They have this arrangement set up for a while and made it work for what seems like several months or a couple of years before he proposed. That's not being naive that's being shown a pattern of trust and commitment. She obviously just knows how to play the game long-term

The Romanian girl story is quite common as many a veteran will tell you. At one large RAF base in South Wales, they would bus girls from the local area in for the disco, (yes, I'm that old) and the girl would be all over the guy, then a month later say she is pregnant. Family insists that they get married and as soon as they get engaged she miraculously gets her period. Or in another country, very sunny all the year round, the girls would try anything to get out of the abject poverty by trying to marry a squaddie, whilst screwing around whilst he was working.
