The PPG movie was and still is one of the highest points of the series. Their release timing and marketing are what made it flop.
Idk how we ended up with the reboot being the way it is

    • @JefferriAndrews
      @JefferriAndrews 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

The reboot didn’t have the original voice actors for the girls and a lot of the old writers for the show left Cartoon Network, plus it was made by Cartoon Network Studios instead of Hanna Barbera Cartoons. Craig McCracken also left the show after the release of the movie.

When the episode "The City of Frownsville" came out, it revealed the writers' feelings towards the people who didn't watch the film due to the crisis of 9/11. The narrative of that episode portrayed the crying as annoying purposely to disregard the concerns. So it's not surprising why the series declined.

Don't forget Nickelodeon gave up making movies based on their Nicktoons the following year due to the huge failures of Hey Arnold!:The Movie,The Wild Thornberrys Movie, and Rugrats Go Wild!(through they did make one more Nicktoons movie in 2004,which was The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, released to critical praise and smashing success)and they would not produce a film until two later with Barnyard ,a movie based on The Fairly OddParents was cancelled due to the disasters the films had.

Worse, they poked fun of the victims of the attacks on the Season 6 episode City of Frownswille(I'm NOT kidding! It's 100% TRUE! I saw that on wikis, and I was SHOCKED when I saw that)

Hey vailskibum, i still remember you after all these years! You were the biggestt dude out there when gravity falls was popular- i just thought of you a minute ago and came back to see how you’re doing. I hope you’ve been fine, time has flown by- i feel like it was yesterday me and my friends would hang out and watch your channel to see the gravity falls theorys. You were always so on top of it and predicted stuff waaay before it happened. Without you i feel like gravity falls would have been nothing to me because back when i watched it (4th grade!) I obviously never would have noticed that. Me and my friend jacob who lived next door would always watch your channel and found out so much about the show that nobody ever would have known without your help. Thank you for the memories, i hope you’ve been doing well these past 5 years (time flies geesh). And we all can hope gravity falls can make a return one day in the future for all those memories. -matteo

Something not also mentioned is that Lilo and Stitch was also still in theaters (only in its 3rd weekend) made over 12 million, down 41% from the previous weekend.
Even worse, WB was cannibalizing itself with Scooby-Doo was also in theaters, it's 4th weekend, doing just over 7 million, down a similar 43%.
Further insult to injury was that Hey Arnold! The Movie was just one the week before. It fell by 64% and did 2 million.
With 4 straight weeks on PG-rated movies (1 original, and 3 based on TV shows, with Scooby-Doo being live-action with Scooby-Doo being CGI), it's little wonder it failed. Too much for the kids at once.
Any hope of profit was squished with a 55% drop in week 2, and with yet ANOTHER family film the next week, Stuart Little 2, the film lost most of the remaining theaters, and plunged by 79% in week 3, leaving it with 382 theaters left, most of which were likely discount ones as well.

From what I heard, the Powerpuff Girls movie's marketing was poor because Warner Bros wanted shared credit, money, whatever it was, for releasing the film under their name as well as Cartoon Network's, but CN didn't want to do that so WB only made the one trailer and that was it. It was really Cartoon Network who screwed themselves, not the Powerpuff Girls Movie. Again, that's what I heard about why the movie wasn't as successful as it could've been.

Another thing that might have killed this movies success, is how UN-ambitious this movie is. Like instead of giving us a new plot with a new villain to fight or something like that, maybe having the girls reluctantly teaming up with Mojo-Jojo to stop an even greater evil, they just played it safe and gave us the shows intro for 90 minutes.

Step 1) Don't make it a prequel, but make a flashback based on their origins.
Step 2) Make the flow consistent and steady. Don't stretch out some scenes to the point of taking 70-80% of an episode length.
Step 3) Don't have the Girls fight Mojo Jojo for the 365th time as the main fight. Try to give the light to a new villain, like you said. And don't recycle a member of the voice cast to do so. Give them a voice actor unique enough to standout.
Step 4 - Idea 1) Have the Powerpuff Girls team up with all the villains to take that villain on.
Step 4 - Idea 2) Or have a three-sided conflict take place between the series villains, the movie villains, and the heroes themselves.
Step 5) Have the Powerpuff Girls win, not because of plot armor, but by skill and strategy. Make the victory authentic, not contrived.

To me this is the Best Cartoon Network Movie of all Time, Second being the Regular Show Movie, it’s the Perfect Balance Between Action, Mature Themes, Comedy, and Over the Top Story Telling which is how the Powerpuff Girls show be portrayed, I get the Creator wanted to do Less Action and More a Silly Slice of Life but I don’t think it would have worked, if anything it would’ve ruined the Franchise More if they took that Direction I mean just look at the 2016 Reboot as it did that and Failed and I’m glad CW never got their hands on them, as a Powerpuff Girls Fan I love this Unique Origin Story as it shows how Mojo Jojo and the Girls Created Each Other as this battle between Siblings that are Opposites and it shows that the Girls have Flaws which makes them Relatable and shows how the became the Heroes they were made to be, 10 out of 10, this is one of my All Time Favorite Movies that I would rewatch as much as I can but it also shows be one of the Best Superhero Movies that has Aged like Fine Wine and it becomes even better as Each Year Passes.
