- By the early 19th Century much of New York State had been fully explored and settled. It was no longer the wild land romanticized in novels about frontiersman and Indians. But New York still held one last frontier just waiting to be explored, its vast network of caves. Now we will visit one the very first New York caves to be explored, discovered almost two centuries ago, Balls Cave in Schoharie County, New York.
Brave men! You guys have balls of Titanium💪 That was absolutely amazing!💯
Now I see why it's called balls cave🤣🤣🤣
One of your best yet. You really captured how it felt in there.
I remember our annual trip into Balls cave when I was in the Boy Scouts in the 80s. This video really brings me back except that I recall a lot more bats!! (We would go in November when they were hibernating.)
And the ladder looks to be MUCH improved!
I've been in this cave several times. Never took that first right, pretty cool to see that. Thanks for the great video.
brings back lots of memories!
Imagine having to carry fire for light through there as they must have back when it was found! ugh. Thanks for the video, guys. You have a new sub!
I've seen footprints in dry mud, Left by slaves
from the War of 1812. Who carried out basket
loads of bat guano. Who built vats using
lumber they cut from logs. Vat use processed
guano into saltpeter. Which helped manufacture
of cannon and firearm gunpowder. Workers used
local cane tied by cut gut strings into wands.
That when ignited offered light and put soot on
all overhead rock wherever the cave workers went.
My visit left all slave industry relics undisturbed. .
@@jcee2259 wow.
@@Worldopain NSS cave chat
is on-line for would-be explorers.
I'm not. Because I'm busy with
people like my reader. Bye-bye.
I'm surprised that you're balls fit in such a small place thanks for taking me with you this was cool
Wow! That’s an awesome video, Mike.
It’s hard to describe a cave like that (the rim stone dams and the lost passage with minimal airspace) to non-cavers. This video is fantastic! Thank you so much for researching the history of it as well.
It’s a great resource. I hope you entered it into the video salon for the upcoming NSS Virtual Convention.
4give me but it's easy to describe 2 a non caver. Just press record.
Must be nice not to be claustrophobic! Inspiring journey... great work!
Thank god it didnt rain while you guys were in there!
What a nice video! I think you guys had less air space than I had when I went through the lost passage, but I still accidentally dunked my head and lost my contact in there.
This is the Hamilton’s pharmacopeia of caves. Great videos!!
If you want a cave to explore that isn’t documented to my knowledge. Rock house cave in Madison Alabama. (Huntsville Alabama is called rocket city but before the space race it was called cave city from the vast amount of caves here) you would also get a kick out of big spring cave, the cave that is literally in the middle of down town and they had to replan the town hall because they discovered that cave. And found species only found in that one cave. No one has been in the 2 mile long cave since the early 1900’s
Thanks. But, I'm an explorer, and prefer
exploration where no people have been.
I also assist public and private sector
cartography attending exploration. My
preference is sketching cave content.
As found at each denoted survey stop.
To help people who view cave maps...
Awesome video
I'm another member of organized exploration.
Which buys caves and then protects their
content. I've helped gate some. Built so
resident wildlife can pass but people cannot.
Visitors may enter subject to conditions
which vary but will help protect cave content.
We may also assist criminal prosecution.
Your UG stuff is always high-test Mike. I was unaware you were part of a state Grotto. You and Derek Bristol should collaborate at some point. I imagine you know who he is, but if not, be sure to look up his footage here.
Caves lured me into the underground first; the March 1991 edition of National Geographic was all it took. I have a very high level of respect for cavers and their ethics. I'm all fingers and thumbs, so I generally stick to hardrock mines but still dream about Lechuguilla.
Wow this is crazy I would never go into any cave or try to cave diving it just kinda asking to die not worth it for me :)
beautiful cave system
alls I can think of is that kid that got stuck in a tunnel head first out west and died there, dont think I could keep my cool.
So many things have to go wrong for something like that to happen. It seems kind of like crossing the street. If you know how to look for and avoid the dangers you can crawl in and out of these things without fail your whole life. Did you know one of the safest places to be during an earthquake would be a cave just like the one this guy went into! 😁
Do you ever think that when ever your exploring you think to your self that this was a dumb idea?
Why does the tunnel have straight lines along the ceiling? Did it have an artificial ceiling made?
I really like watching the video but would prefer to listen to the narration without music playing at the same time -that makes it difficult to hear what is being said. We watched on mute. I’m sure we missed a lot of great stuff! Thank you!
wow! hitting ANC this weekend
I don't think the earth is hollow, on the other hand I think that it is not as "full" as we are told. everywhere, on every continent there are these networks of underground caves, and everywhere in the world there are these rivers which plunge but we never find the exit. I think there are freshwater seas underground.
I'd love too see water tests from there
7:18 yeah, pass on that, thanks.
Same. My mind cannot even process that.
Could that of flooded ?
I have seen those dams b4 on a few mine exploration channels👌 here on youtube
Dude, I can't even begin to describe how much I don't fucking want to do that.
Awh lads the two of ye are absolutely tapped in the head. This made me feel so uncomfortable but I couldn't stop watching it!
Man you gotta have some balls to go in balls cave lol
Serem
Is this cave open to the public??
No
12:35 that is so shitty man...
Bastards that mixed with serpent seed will destroy everything
god created challenges for the brave. the cave literally fits a human face nose up. its like you either get the message from him or you dont.
anyone here from tik tok
