  • Fab Morvan of Milli Vanilli stopped by VladTV in this exclusive clip where he discusses continuing to make music despite the downfall of Milli Vanilli. He talks about working as a DJ and how music will also be a part of his life. Unfortunately, Fab receives no royalties from the massive success Milli Vanilli had but insists that he learned from past contractual mistakes and holds no hard feelings. Watch above.

I feel like all its gonna take is for someone to feature him on a track or for someone to do an homage to their video set back in the day and put him in a clip, sample one of the songs, and he is gonna be back doing bigger things.

  • @larrymaggard7174
    @larrymaggard7174 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The Court of Public Opinion charged, tried, convicted and sentenced the victims on assumption while the true criminals, the Grand Poo-Bahs of the recording studio laughed all the way to the bank.
    Milli Vanilli's relationship with the business side of the music industry is an example of why it is necessary to read and fully understand every word in a legal binding contract. Never... NEVER sign you name on a document unless you completely understand the entire content. Being niave doesn't qualify as a defense or nullify the contract. If they have an attorney then you need an attorney.
    From the 1960s through 1990s record lables seduced new music artists with promises of a record deal and with stars in their eyes would sign a contract which only paid the artists 2 cents per dollar while the record label received 98 cents per dollar. To add salt to the wound, the cost to record the albums, videos, promotions, and money paid as an advance were deducted from the 2 cents. The artists would be in debt for thousands of dollars to the record label that was making millions off of their music. Fortune didnt happen unless the artists were still on the radio at the end of the typical 5 year contract at which time they could renegotiate the terms which usually still favored the record labels.
    I speak from experience as a musician / song writer.

He didn’t die yesterday, he wasn’t a good singer, and Rob was the one who did all the talking back then and he wasn’t cool about a lot of stuff, bashing great artists to try covering for the situation he was in. It’s a part of history and there’s no good reason to hold back on facts when it’s way more fact than insult.

  • @MrMajani
    @MrMajani 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    After this interview, I've done a bit of digging into some old videos and I think I understand why everyone did what they did in the situation:
    1. The producer Frank Farian wanted to make a 'perfect group' with 10/10 vocals and 10/10 looks. This package doesn't come very often, so he wanted to find a way of making it happen frequently. Makes business sense. That setup would also would give him power over the group cause the whole was greater than the parts. That also makes a lot of sense cause it would hypothetically tone down a lot of the diva crap that labels get from artists.
    2. Rob and Fab, when I look at the old clips, could kinda sing, but they were hella rough around the edges. If they were to sing their own vocals, they would need years of vocal and English training to get it just right. I can see why the producer held back on putting them in the studio. However, the guys were absolutely SMOKING when it came to their looks, and they have good stage presence as well. In pop music, that's half the job done.
    3. The vocals guys had great voices, but they're stiff as hell on stage. Plus they don't look all that.
    All in all, I think they all should have counted their lucky stars and stuck to the original plan. None of them was a star on their own, and the producer was giving them a huge lucky break that they could have used as a platform. I think Rob and Fab could have secretly arranged for vocal and English training in the background and eventually done their own shit years later. Also the vocals guys could have secretly worked on their stage presence and looks and attempted going solo later on.
    I think the guy who screwed up in the whole deal is Frank Farian. What he was trying to do was totally logical and he probably should have just been open with the team from the get go, explained to them the whole situation and what their options were. I think there was a good chance they would agree to just keep up the act if everything had been open from the beginning.

    I hated on these guys back in the day. When Rob died a lot of stuff started coming out about how things went down and you realized they were victims.. Hearing Fab talk about how they started and the contract they signed, and all the people in on the scam, makes it even more tragic...

    Loved Milli Vanilli, I was like 9 or 10 when they first came out. That was slick on how they put the music together. You cant be mad at them, I sure aint. They shouldve got some of that $$$, IMO, but a Great interview!!

    the really sad thing is, 90 percent of todays youth would do the same, sign on the dotted line if promised fame and fortune, specially when you got celebs being famous for nothing like the whole kardashian clan smh,

    Fab is beautiful inside and out. His continuance is full of level peace. I hope the best for him. The industry “DMX” destroys these young talents with out a thought as long as the money is pouring in. Then if your not following the script, off with your help.
    The industry uses drugs to try and control the weaker minds. Wolf is a great metaphor for the trade. Sad that it in our face daily yet thousands walks through the gate to fame and glory
    The young man got away . Rob is who they wanted anywayI hope he realizes that
