I remember watching the American Music awards and hearing Milli Vanilli give an exceptance speech after winning an award. I was only 7 years old at the time, but I remember recognizing that something wasn't quite right about the way they spoke vs the way they sang. Of course, now we all know why there was such a huge contrast.
Same here. I was 8 at the time and I remember my mom had a Milli Vanili cassette tape. I too remember that thick German accent and being confused but at 8, I just dismissed it.
What's funny is music is so bad in this day and age with the robot autotune/voicebox crap they do now I'd rather take what they were doing back then compared to what we got now.
I was in my 20s back then and to be honest, the hype about the lip syncing was more damaging than the actual lip syncing.
Milli Vanilli could sing! We would have been just as cool to hear their new album. No one had to die😞

I know I want it to come back, God knows I do but this world ain't the same as it was in the 90's. People nowadays is too thin skinned, too PC,too bitchy, too whiny. It was good when it was here(scratch that it was GREAT)Keenan and them captured lightning in a bottle then it could never be duplicated again. I'm sad and sorry to even type it but it's the truth.

Edit: I read it never got past trying to sort out the cast, but it was in the works up until then.
@@jonathancue1584 It's not really about being thin-skinned. the game is to appease the audience, and your bosses, and if you don't, you don't have a show. Now while a show can continue when people don't like it, eventually if enough of those people change the channel, because they don't like it, then the show gets cancelled. Also back in the 90's it was whatever was on tv, is what you can watch, Most people don't even watch tv any more. Why, when you can get what you want, when you want it, at a more consistent basis then at traditional tv show.

They didn't get exposed from Living Color. They wanted to use their own voices on their next album and their managers/producers came clean.
They threatened to expose their managers for the shenanigans if he didn't allow them to sing on the next record but he beat them to the punch first.

I used to live in Germany and we were hearing rumors about them lip syncing long before the rest of the world heard about it. When the rest of the world caught up and sh*t hit the fan, we were kind of confused why no one else knew...

Living Color had nothing to do with Milli Vanilli coming out of the lip syncing closet, it's when there producer frank farian blew the whistle when they demanded more money, or possibly wouldn't record the second album in which they had a contract for. Living Color had a reputation of making fun of people but no one's demise came from any of there jokes and if anything it most likely increased and artist's popularity.

I met Tommy years ago at the comedy connection in Boston (I used to work there) & he really is a gentleman and a very down to earth guy. Very approachable and appreciative of his fans.
I bought all seasons of In Living Color last week. Been binge watching. Miss the 90s.

He even teamed up with the guy he was lipsinging for (John Davis) and they became an act Milli Vanilli: Face Meets Voice (or something like that). Unfortunately, John Davis passed away a couple of years ago.

Personally we need to bring this kind of humor back. I think in the days starting in the late sixties right through the nineties comedians recognized the issues and problems and they were willing to poke fun at our insecurities even about things that are not considered sensitive or untouchable. In Living Color did this all the time, pointing out the insecurities and making fun of them. We need to start making fun of these insecurities or else humor is going to die an unnatural death.
