When you said 250 hours total time I got scared. Working on my CPL in Canada and am working towards my 200 hours. I was worried TC changed the hour requirements on my. Turns out you were going over US requirements.
You are absolutely correct. And I like to use the US requirements because then it is a happy surprise for us Canadian pilots when we realize we don’t have to do the extra 50 hours that you would have to in the US :)
I wish you talked about the Canadian CPL requirements. I thought you would because you have a Canadian license. Don't we need at least 200 hours of flight time to get the CPL?
The reason I talked about the US CPL requirements is because it is slightly more than the Canadian one, so as a Canadian, you do have a little bit less requirements like you mentioned. But the process is almost identical. :)
Great question! I get asked this quite a bit actually! I do contract flying, the owners and operators of the aircraft pay for all of the expenses, and they hire myself to operate the airplane and provide some aircraft management and maintenance scheduling. The only costs incurred are for myself, and occasionally for the aircraft, but that gets reimbursed.
Those hours are FAA right: unless they've changed since I started my CPL training TC only requires 200 TT, and then all the accompanying internal hrs (100 PIC, 20 hrs instrument, 5 hrs night PIC, etc)
Absolutely a _superb_ video, Evan. 😊 Oh, by the way... I'm still reeling over that, 'Are we down yet?' landing in your last video! 🧈 Thank you for being such a positive and valuable resource! 😃
@EvanLuft Thank _you!_ I'm an inactive pilot (due to medical reasons, boooooo! 😞) with just under 5000 hours PIC time, and I enjoy your videos because they are so well made, fun, and usefully enlightening and informative ( pardon my grammar). There's always an energy about them that makes me yearn to be in the left seat again in a good way. You have my respect, man!
I would want to become an airline pilot but also I am thinking about free lancer. How much do you earn and how much do I need to get started on my freelancer business. I am very young but trust me I know loads (my dad teaches me)
The CPL allows you to fly for higher, but not fly 2 crew airplanes and they have to be under a certain weight category. For instance, to fly a small corporate jet that is certified to be flown by one pilot you could just have a CPL. However, a multi crew airplane like a 737 would require an ATPL.
Since you had your multi before your CPL , did you had to do another comercial exam for multi cpl or did it transfer automatically like an add on?, I’m asking because I’m planning to get my multi before CPL.
Not sure what Canadian rules are, but for the FAA certs, you have to take a checkride for both the multi and single, regardless of what you had has a private.
You only have to do the commercial exam once. But in order to hold the license, or before they give it to you, you have to have the accumulated hours. 250 in the US in 200 in Canada If I remember correctly. the multi engine and IFR is a great way to build up to those hours. hopefully that makes it more clear :)
Too many inaccuracies in this video, and attention to detail is an important quality for a safe pilot to possess. 1. You do not need a 1st Class medical. Many Commercial pilots have a 2nd Class or 3rd class, but that’s for employment purposes. To take the Commercial pilot check ride, I believe you can even be on Basic Med. 2. The 10 night take offs and landings must be at airports with an OPERABLE tower. Simple having a tower will not suffice, and many Class Ds revert to Echo or Golf at night. 3. The long X-country does NOT need to have one leg over 250 nm. My Cessna 150 can’t make it that far without depleting reserves. One point of the 3 needs to be 250 nm or more from the original point of departure. 4. 10 hours of TAA is not the only option. TAA may be combined with time in a Complex aircraft. Perhaps a closer read through of 61.129 prior to posting would be appropriate? Not having these requirements water tight could result in a failed check ride before the oral portion can even begin.

Just wait until you realize Europe you're in the right hand seat of a B737 or an A320 at 200 hours :)
@@ATPL-Life gee I wish. I'll be lucky if I'm loading bags for an airline in Northern Canada at 200 hours
@@EvanLuft Did you have to convert your license to fly from Canadian airspace to ones outside your country like US airspaces

Great video, Evan thanks 😊
4:04 Hey that hanger looks familiar😅
Hi, from which flying club did you train your CPL?
How long did it take you to CPL? The cost? And what jobs can you get with it??
hey, im just wondering if you are employed or if you are a contractor pilot who must pay for all of your own recurrent training and accommodations?

This is why I wanted to know Transport Canada's requirements. Thank you @stephengoossen6060
You are absolutely correct :) I always like to use the US requirements because they are a little bit higher.
Hey!! That's FQJ!!! Is that the 185 with an Allison turboshaft that's based at bakers narrows lodge IN Flin Flon MB?
Yep that is!! Haha
@EvanLuft no way! Do you go fishing there?!

Hey man do you have any tips and steps for getting your ppl im 14 are there any things i can do right now to get started im in canada
Would love to know how you financed all of this flight time and ratings?
The cost can be substantial, and I was able to pay for it yet however, even since when I did my license, the cost is probably quadrupled
@ ah just wondering if most people have full time careers alongside or part time.

Also if you don’t want to tell your salary just give me a range and if you could make it into aud.
Hello please, what is the difference between the ATPL and CPL? Thanks.
Google it bro don't wait the answer if there is any
