  • This graft didn't make it. In this video I talk about common mistakes people make when grafting. I also talk about common reasons why grafts fail. Looking back, It's common sense to hold all your finger above the knife when cutting downwards, but common sense sometimes escapes me. I

    Anytime I cut my finger while grafting I just stick a piece of Scion wood in it and tape it up.

      you can use rubber band to tie the graft and then a plastic bag to cover the whole graft and scion area.

    I would suggest covering whatever you have done with aluminum foil or white paper and then cover with a air tight transparent plastic bag, you can use some rubber band to tie it and voila ur graft will be successful no matter what season you graft as long as your rootstock is active😊

    I live in the Caribbean. Almost 4 weeks ago, I did my first graft ever and it was on an avocado tree. So far it's looking good, the scion is still green. The root stock is one year old. Instead of wrapping with grafting tape, I covered the scion with a plastic bag. It seems like the new leaf is developing but not sure. I hope it's successful.

    Looks like it was good grafting it's a shame that it didn't turn out with the fact that the tools were not disincfected it also would be a good idea to replace the blade with a new one if available. as I have seen someone has already suggested the plastic bag which is the better idea. which would look in the moisture and keep any bacteria from the outside until the scion locks in tight into the cutting shame that your video was not shown previously as I'm always looking for ideas thank you for the grafting video it alerts me of the safety and precautions of what not to do the next time by the way this 2023 April 27.

    Can you use hand sanitizer ok? after you succeed grafting, how do you keep your graft shoot from dying back after 3-6 months, do you think I remove the parafilm too soon . if you don't remove the parafilm, it will gurtle and die.

    • @AJTheGraftMan
      @AJTheGraftMan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hand sanitizer can be ok to use, I assume. I’ve never used it myself. Die back can occur from too much heat and sun, or not enough water to the rootstock. Parafilm doesn’t girdle the graft. Other types of grafting tape might girdle. I would let the tape fall off on its own

    Thanks for sharing, i agree if you graft in the heat, I live in Texas where the temperatures stays over 100 in the summer so if you graft you must cover the graft with something. What I do is i use toilet paper cylinder to protect the graft from the sun, then i use a sandwich bag over it and tie the bottom to prevent water from getting to it.

    • @JorgeMartinez-df3or

      I have seen a previous video where you cut slit around and about two inches long into the branch and peeling off the bark off of a fruit tree and then squeeze about two palms full of mud with a lot of moisture and place a rag all around making sure no moisture spills out cover it with a plastic and then some tape or rubber strap around the edges it took approximately six weeks to have the roots come out of the center after that you cut in between the two ends and unwrap and the roots should have formed and replant the stock in potting soil if you want to propagate from the same tree I suggest you do it separating the cuttings different branches at a distance apart good luck hope it turns out great.
