It carries the same premise, but follow it with a different plot and characters.
You're not alone. I've loved the Oddworld games since I was 13 (when I got the Windows port of Abe's Oddysee in 1999), and I still remember that intro cutscene word for word. :-)
I never knew this game was remastered! Hearing the lines re-read is so weird because I remember the original lines by pitch so well lol but great looking remaster!!
oh my god, I think I know why glukkons doesn't reveal their arms because they have large arms and small legs so they walk with their large arms, now that's hilarious.
Also their iconography is that they're JUST a big suit... like people describe CEOs', Managers, etc. as "suits." It's a commentary on capitalist business owners.
I prefer Abe’s moody walk over his “yeah this is power” vibe when he got the power he needed. It feels like he knows this is serious business, not just revenge time.
The head on a stick is grim and creepy certainly but why would the company with an outwardly happy face advertise a decapitated head on a pike as a product next to the pretty and simplified “cute” designs of the parasite pies and scrab cakes? I’m never one for censorship but there’s a difference between censorship and stylistic change and I think the switch to a cuter popsicle look is more in fitting with the design of Rupture farm’s other products.
Yeah, I think that it really fits! But I think they should have shown how the cute popsicle slowly turns into the decapitated head, as if to show that this is how Abe sees it vs how Glukkons see it.
I always saw it as the boardroom pitch, this wasnt going to be the final product image, just something to get the point across and make the other glukkons laugh.
stevie gilliam in the original western versions it was a mudokon head on a spike, but in Japan it got turned into a popsicle due to cultural perceptions about the working class (this is also why mudokons got their fingers cut from 4 to 3). Ever since they kept these conventions in the series
That's the point. A product advertisement is supposed to be endearing and appetising, not intimidating. :D The head on a stick was prolly a rough draft by Molluck.
I like how RLCraft used some oddworld creatures as enemies, I got destroyed by meeches and scrabs, I’m not sure if there are paramites. They aren’t called scrabs and meeches in rlcraft
It's really weird going back to New and Tasty or the old games from Soulstorm and seeing the stark contrast on how the story is handled. I'd say the older games sorta have a childish feel to the way their being presented while Soulstorm takes it's plot far more seriously and really displaying a sort of grand Biblical tale as it relates to the Mudokon Spirituality.
I don't think it was "literally" the point. I think Exodus was on an insane time table so they left a lot on the table. And because they didn't handle New n Tasty in house, the developers didn't change anything other than graphics and gameplay (I prefer the puzzle based original, honestly). Whereas in Soul Storm they got to finally realize their full vision for the second chapter of Abe's Journey. I'd really like to see Munch come back at some point, he's so loveable.
@@timbuckthe2nd642 The contrast in tone of the original games, the heavy themes and atmosphere against the crass and/or dark comedy. they need to change Mudoken Pops' image to the original spear-headed Mudoken head with blood dripping down, enough of this childish censorship. (i'm aware that the image was changed in this remaster, but it just makes me want to go back and experience the original rather than this.)
The original Japanese version had this version of the popsicle showcased. While the original international version had the gruesome version. So, whether or not this is an actual case of censorship or an artistic revision of what makes the most in-canon is up for debate tbh.
The game PLAYS totally different. In the original you could count the exact steps/squares which made it basically an adventure/puzzle-platformer. You could kind of take it at your own pace. This one has a totally different rhythm. Soul Storm compared to Exodus is a completely different game though.
