To be fair, the popsicle is actually decades old. They had to censor some stuff for their Japan port back in the day, (including Abe having four fingers, as Japanese folks thought of that as an offensive reference to factory workers who'd lost fingers) and that's where the popsicle came from. Lorne has actually said he liked it, because it's sort of works with the Glukkons dressing up this horrible thing as something cute and delicious.
If that factory worker story is true, than it's quite stupid to change it to 3 fingers, don't you think? Changing the four fingers is mainly because of the tetraphobia which is common in East Asian nations, because the word four sounds similar to the word death.
The workers story is true. Lorne Lanning explained the story that abe lost his finger for the Japan Release. The popsicle is even more logic to be sold on mudukons then a head stabbed on a stick isnt it?
This was an amazing remake, but it seemed like the cutscenes were too bright and colorful and the movement is smooth. This felt too light hearted and cartoony when compared to the story. They're not bad, but they don't capture the grueling pace the mudokons work at on the assembly line or the mystic feel of Abe slowmo running toward the temple. I also miss the old music :( Even so, this game was perfect and made me feel like a kid again. Can't wait for Exoddus and the newer games.
interesting that they made this a lot less darker than the original oddysee but they are claiming to make soulstorm (exoddus remake) more darker. its like they are revering the roles of the game in the remakes looks like we get the best tone from both games, pretty cool imo, exoddus definitely was a lot more light heartened than oddysee.
The New 'n' Tasty is an excellent and beautiful remake, but it would be much lifelike with pupil reflex of the mudkons. It just a little detail, but they have big eyes, and that would look awesome!
I love how faithful this was but I was really hoping for a chance to get a closer look at the legendary Molluck. The most powerful and terrifying Glukkon in the cartel. And weather we can write him off or not.
Did anyone else notice that, on the first slide of the boardroom presentation, there's a picture of a Glukkon captioned: I Brown Lackey 'Capt Wanky' Vp Bt?
I don’t care about what anyone of you guys that say that this game is awful in the comment section like a child that wants attention say, this is my favorite oddworld game. That is because it introduced to an amazing game series that I would have otherwise paid no attention to if I just saw the original oddworld games.
+xXFreiheit89Xx Nope, you can choose if you start with Paramonia or with Scrabania, so its your decision which scar you get first.. and here are just shown all 4 possibillitys
Playing this on the original xbox was fun cuz I didint understand anything like the story and so on. But now I replayed it the story and this game is dark
I look back at the original... I played as a kid. The original was much more morbid, in my opinion. I loved it with the dark sense to it. But this one looks sort of cartoon oriented.
I understand that, I'm just warning others who'd be better served ignoring people waxing nostalgic over 20 year old CGI animation and PS1 hardware limitations as if they're defining parts of the artistic vision. Oddworld can be colorful and beautifully lit and still be a dark parable.
That's retarded, that's like saying you can't criticise Justin Beiber making shitty music if you're not a musician yourself. The limitations of the original were defining parts of the artistic vision, if every scene is pre-rendered then the artists can draw multiple over-lapping textures on background objects since they're just paintings, every scene had to be painstakingly rendered and then drawn with exquisite detail. That's what made rupture farms seem like such an unpleasant and oppressive place. Something which New N Tasty lacks. You seem very naive, limitation breeds creativity and the reason that Odyssey still looks good is because they had to fit as much detail into the CD space as possible, the hardware limitation very much dictated the artistic vision, whereas the remaster with it's increased fidelity, relies on ugly bloom lighting and pointless camera artefacts.
Kranku Limitations can absolutely result in impressive creative workarounds. The original game is a triumph of animation for its time. My point is that many people critiquing the look of NnT are those that are simply complaining because it is different, it is not what the original was, and is therefor inherently worse. This is not a fair argument, and its not a very thought out one. Video compression for the pre-rendered scenes is an easy example of bad tech limitations. Unless you're really a fan of compression artifacts! Intense shadows can create a look, but it lacks the nuance that NnT offers with deep blues, strong oranges, and other proper lighting techniques designed to illustrate a variety of moods. The original simply has Abe lit the same way at all times, unaffected by the world around him. Don't get me wrong, the original is a game that has aged well visually, by virtue of having a talented Hollywood animation staff and an adherence to 2D art. It was also built using 3D assets that were designed to be reused as much as possible. You don't seem to understand the differences between hand drawn and 3D animation (protip, Abe uses 3D models that were turned into sprite key frames, much like Donkey Kong Country) but what do I know? I only have a BFA in Illustration and have been drawing, painting and dabbling in animation for the past ten years. Oh, and its spelled "Oddysee" in this context, but you'd know that if you were a fan.
Not gonna lie, there should have been a 3rd ending only achieved when u save all 299 employees. Like they could at least mention that literally every single one got out,and not one lost their life
Not really a fan on the new scene where Abe transforms into the god. In the original game after Abe transforms into the god, he looks MUCH more confident even pounding his fists together eager to shut down Rupture Farms. In this game, he gets nearly worn out using the form and doesn't seem as confident. I mean he is ready to take down Rupture Farms, but it pales in comparison to how READY he was in the original. Really loved that confident smile he gave since it was the first time in the game Abe smiled to an extent.
Agreed it’s a massive downgrade, having him trip right after is such awful writing and takes the wind out of your sails after getting the ultimate chant. Stupid
I kind of preferred the older cutscenes in my opinion. The picture of the mudokon pops was really toned down which I think made it lose some of it's shock factor :/ I also feel that the animation was better in the older cut scenes, a little less rigid.
Didn't they change it for the Japanese version? I do remember hearing about that but I think for the remake for this version they could have used the original picture. Still awesome none the less :D Maybe I've got my nostalgia googles strapped on a bit tight XD
