I suggest that the video is redone, or a reminder is added. It should include the step of shutting off the engine and removing the key from the ignition. This should be from the time the POB (person overboard) is holding onto some object on the boat, e.g. line, boat hook, oar, PFD, but not someone's hand, until the POB is brought on board. We forget that the majority of POB situations do not happen in calm wind, water and emotional situations that are shown in the training videos. Allan Miller, Saratoga Lake N.Y.
Over complicated! "add 60 degrees and then 180 degree"??? I'm a Diver Coxswain Instructor Examiner and I was confused!! I'm going to use the video in my classes as the graphics are actually really good, but also as an example of over thinking P.S Why was the victim dry (let's ignore simulating using a person)
I found the instructions for the "add 60 degrees" very helpful. Before, I was a little confused about the Williamson's rescue method. Of course, if you want to turn to port instead of starboard, subtract 60 to start.
I should add that you are adding the 180 degrees to your original heading, not the 60 degree heading. So I guess that it could be a little confusing. :)
Your heading before you lost the MOB is very important on this technique. On the video his heading is 0 degree then MOB falls so he turns 60 degree to have a good space for turning to be on exact reverse track (you might ADD or SUBTRACT 60 degree base on where MOB falls. STB or Port). When reach 60 degrees turn 180 degree as 180 degree is the reverse track of his original heading 0 degree, then you will be on your reverse track. Prepare your safety equipments for picking up the MOB. (do not use a real person for M.O.B training) 🙂✌🏾 safe boating.
