I’ve had 4 Staffies. They’re the best dogs. There’s only one downside to owning a Staffie and that’s having your heart and soul ripped out when they pass on. I lost my old boy last October and I miss him every single day.

I’m awaiting adoption of a 7 year old staffy and I’m already bracing myself for this heartache!! Especially since we’ll likely have no more than a decade together… doesn’t deter me from giving her her forever home though 😊

As a Englishman man from Staffordshire in England and a lifetime owner of the humble staffie, I have too say they are without doubt the best breed anyone can own. Of course I’m biased, but they make great family dogs, great with kids, great fun too own and have great personalities..

@@HaggardPillockHD Staffy! Bulldogs have breathing problems because they have been bred to have that squashed face, the reason for this is that people buy them for it, simple answer is don't buy them and they'll stop doing it! (yes, I am a Staffy owner lol! totally love him to bits :-) )

    • @BlitzkriegStaffords
      @BlitzkriegStaffords 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

@@HaggardPillockHD seems like an odd choice between the two because they will have very different lifestyles. if you are active/outgoing at all definitely go with the staff because english bulldogs have so many physical limitations. breeders have absolutely ruined that breed. there are even some poorly bred staffordshire bull terriers which can not even be very active on hot days. this is why it's so important to find a breeder who does more than just beauty pageants with their dogs. staffordshire bull terriers should be bred for health and performance before looks. this will dictate their true breed type as it should be.

I had a Staffy, yours looks just like mine did, he had some really bad owners, that didn't want him, so we bought him for £20... He was only a pup, he was afraid at first, but he soon realized he was in a better place.. I can confirm that yes, Staffies are in fact Nanny Dogs, I have two younger siblings and when they were babies he'd be around them 24/7, they're amazing emotional support dogs, they'll bring you so much love and many unforgettable memories. My Staffy sadly passed away in 2017 at the age of 17 years, he became very unwell, he had cancer and there was nothing we could do, the saddest part was having take him to the vets to have him put to rest, and even today I still grieve... But to grieve is to have deeply loved. Dogs are only a fraction of our life, but we are all of their life, so give them a life to love and enjoy.

Got my first dog in 1963, owned a total of 9 dogs to-date. Anyway, my wife and I bought a Staffordshire bully (full blooded) in 82. Out of the 9 doggies, it is "Buster" the Staffy (and Muggsy who was a mutt) who I miss the most, she was an outstanding, and very loyal dog. Believe it or not, that dog was a tree climber, not kidding. To this very day, I still grieve for both.

My "Milo" was a stray, wandered up my driveway, scars all over him, broken tail, bones showing and a strange "dent" in his back, near his tail where we think he was stabbed with a screwdriver. We think he was a "bait" dog. I'm SO glad he found me. Your description is him to a "T." He's about 18 months old, and slowly calming down. He lives to be with me, sleeps on my shoulder, will like my face off if I let him. He is SUPER smart, wants to be a "good" dog. He just didn't get any socialization, so we're working on that, training, etc. He's a beautiful black and white, SO loving and sweet, and yes, an excellent guard/protection dog.

Here in the UK they have a very mixed reputation. As you mentioned they are very loving and loyal dogs and unfortunately some scum bags will use that loyalty to turn them into fighting dogs, especially since pitts have been banned. Another problem is some parts of the UK can be rather social class driven and they're seen as "lower class" dogs. But anyone who has had or interacted with a staffy knows they're lovely.

I think the bad reputation is largely caused by the fact that much of the general public can't tell the difference between bully breeds. Most people in the UK have heard of a staffy and know vaguely what they look like, but a lot of people probably wouldn't be able to tell one from a Pitbull, AmStaff or American Bulldog. So I wonder how many people have been attacked by one of those breeds, or a mixed breed, but have said: "it was a staffy" because that's the closest resemblance they know? It's food for thought.

As an Australian It was so weird to hear that its HARD to get a staffy in the US, there are so many here and all the shelters are absolutely full of them. I got my boy Max about a year ago from a shelter and It was the best decision we ever made, he's the best dog ever.

same here in uk, wrong people go and buy, when they have caused all sorts of issues with the dog they off load to shelters, and thats when good folk like you step in and rescue, but would be better if breeding for profit was stopped, could go on , but needless to say sbt my favourite, have always had rescues and now just have Alfie, i say just , he is a great dog but still miss my girl maisie,

We have an Amstaff. I've never seen one before we got our boy 6 years ago so I didn't know what to expect. He is the most loveable and sweet boy I have ever met. His entire world revolves around what either my wife or myself are doing. He wants nothing more than to love and be loved. I call him a little sex offender because it is absolutely impossible for him to not give a thousand kisses to everyone he comes in contact with!!!! And from what I am hearing from every TH-cam video I watch, this is common for this type of breed. I think an Amstaff would be great for you.

@@youmadbro7733 As it is with most breeds of dog, if they are brought up by by good responsible owners they are a pleasure to be around. The problem with the bully breeds is that a lot of pathetic individuals get tough looking dogs because they think it makes them look hard ( just a message to these people, it doesn't make you look like a tough guy, it makes you look like a pathetic pussy). There lies the problem, these dogs live to please their owner and if they are trained or encouraged to show aggression they are just pleasing their master. Most breeds of dog bite and release the arms or legs, bully breeds go for the face and throat and lock on with obviously much more severe consequences.
I have owned several Staffies and agree with you that they are the most gentle, empathetic dog breed on planet earth. I had a rescue Staffie that had lost an eye to a GSD when she was a pup and I would 100% trust her around humans and small animals. She and my 2 Jack Russell's totally loved each other. But she changed into a totally different beast around large dogs and I could never let her of the lead. She got better over the years and I would let her off the lead on a large open field, but any sign of a large dog and she would have to be put back on the lead.
Anyone that wants a Staffie in the UK, please go to your local dogs home. There are literally thousands upon thousands of Staffies that have been tested by animal behaviourists and deemed as safe to be re homed. If you want a dog that will love you unconditionally, will know when you are upset or sad and quite happily lie for hours by your side or on your lap. Get a Staffie, you will never, ever regret it.

Thank you for sharing your great lovely story with your staffordshire 😊. I lost my Frenchie a month ago while I had to travel oversea. She missed me so much at a nice pet hotel to the point she stressed herself out. My wife and I saw her from the webcam my Frenchie did not sleep, did not eat in her room. On the eighth days the pet hotel called us for their concerns. My kind neighbor picked my Frenchie up to her vet. My vet told us she has Addison disease in her but due to the stress triggered it. A special treatment must needed and she went into her treatment but did not responded well. My Frenchie passed on before I came home on the 10th day. So sad. We missed her so much! The treatment was outrageously costly but that’s not the point but it couldn’t save my Frenchie Mochi 😢. A week ago I saw this lady with her brown color doggie sat at a patio outside of the ice-cream parlor. I went over to pet her dog and talk. I’d never known about this breed Staffordshire. I really like her dog, as she told me this was a rescue doggie. God blessed her heart. My niece told me if I ever get another dog I should look into a bigger dog, some type of guard dog as well. Since we live in a canyon. We are retiree from a pizzeria business. Once we done some traveling, ready to settled down. I really would like to have a dog again. I could take my dog as my companion walk around the lake. If you see this comment please give me some information where to find a reputable staffordshire breeder? Much appreciated. Cheers and have good fun with kind love with your Staffy.

Then, they'll snap out of it and return to a (semi) normal state.

Technically, it is a pit bull. Pit bull is a term used for the dogs that came from mixing bulldogs and terriers. Normally when someone say pit bull, they are thinking of the American pit bull terrier, which is often recognized as an own breed.
But both American pit bull terriers, American staffordshire bull terriers, staffordshire bull terriers and bull terriers are pit bulls. I don't like using that term, and I would never call my dog a pit bull. Napoleon is a staffordshire bull terrier, not a pit bull, but staffordshire bull terrier is a pit bull race, does that make any sense?

Staffies are one of the best dog breeds ever.
My dad adopted a staffie from a breeder that had skin problems, so couldn't be a 'show dog'. He was so gentle and wonderful, but also very intelligent.
When he wanted to come back into the house, he would sit outside the back door shaking. The shaking stopped as soon as he thought no-one was watching!
I can also remember my mum driving us children back to the house one day, and seeing Bobby standing on one of my brothers' beds, and so seeing us arrive. By the time we came indoors he was in his dog bed in the kitchen, and yawning/stretching - as if he had just woken up 😂.
The ONLY downside was that for the first year (?) he could only be walked by my dad - as he was aggressive towards othere dogs. My dad would walk him off-lead, and it was very obvious that Bobby would quickly check to see if he was far enough away to get away with it....
He never was, and so learned that attacking other dogs was unacceptable. After around a year, even I (around 11 years old) could safely walk him off-lead 😊.
This was decades ago, and I still miss him.
I live in Thailand nowadays and have 3 rescued street dogs, and one rescued American Bull Terrier XL. Unfortuantely I don't have my dad's natural 'authority', so my ABT has proven to be a problem.... But we're getting there!

Dan if you haven’t already read the staffordshire bull terrier by John F Gordon then you should it’s the best book out there on the breed. It may be difficult to get now as it’s old but perhaps someone’s uploaded it into an ebook or a pdf. Secondly.. now this is hard because I love this breed so much... one staffie is let’s say a garden ornament with boisterous bouts? 🤣two staffies are a whirling dervish crossed with a hurricane!😂🤣 the new arrival is not interested in pleasing you, he or she will only listen to shadow! It definitely is double trouble! There are plus points like toilet training etc it really helps with all training but mate, the workload... I’ve done it and would never do it again. Honestly, enjoy Shadow, enjoy your family, enjoy your life. Sometimes too much of something is a bad thing. I was told it and didn’t listen, I reaped the whirlwind for 10yrs! Love our staffies in South Africa too. The Jock of the Bushveld book is part of our cultural history and drove a lot of interest in the breed here. You described them very well. They are a brilliant mix of favorable qualities for modern people who know how to care for their emotional needs.
It must be noted about a staff, being breed originally for fighting does not necessarily translate to them being good guard dogs. They were bred to fight other dogs of approximately the same weight. That aim has little translation into an overall highly effective guard dog.

This is inaccurate? The staffy was bred specifically for bringing down bull's in conjunction with about 8 other stafys as the combined weight when locked jaw on to the bull then the humans can spear the bull then after tiring the bull out due to all the weight of the dog's hanging on ? We used to eat a lot of bull meat see?

This is true. They're unafraid of and sometimes aggressive with other dogs but many will lick strangers to death.
They just don't compute humans with aggression. (Although they're obviously many exceptions and some can be "nippy" when untrained and excited)
I remember having a pretty intense fight once when out with my sisters large and intimidating staffy and he ran off! 😂 I found him at home later. When it came to showing aggression to humans, he just didn't know what to do

I have a Staffy and this video is 100% accurate to my experience with her! She's supper affectionate, loving, loyal, super tough. I'll say she did tear up a lot of stuff (shoes, couch pillowas etc.) as a puppy but she grew out of that by 1.5 years old with training.

Brilliant video, enjoyed! We have a 5 yr old SBT and he is amazing. He is a whisker away from talking to us i'm sure, he certainly lets us know when he wants a treat, food, toilet, cuddles etc. He's great with kids, he's playful and gentle. You forgotten to mention their trumps (farts), ours is like a dirty old man after a curry and beer seasion 🤢 hahaha. Wouldn't have him any other way though, best breed ever ❤🐾🐾❤

Real pitbulls with bloodlines don't get bigger than 65 lbs. They are medium sized terriers. Problem is everyone's idea of a pitbull is a shelter dog with no breed standard. Pitbull comes from selectively breeding Staffordshire terrier and Irish Staffordshire terrier.

I have a staffy named Kailua and she is the fattest sausage ever, she’s an old lady but she’s really smart, one time she used some chairs to jump onto a counter and opened up a peanut butter jar, and ate half of it before trying to put the cap back on, she’s always smiling and has never looked sad unless we’re sad hurt or sick, she didn’t bark until about a year ago because her other dog friends bark at anything, she also sounds like a lil pig and I love her so much

Love staffies! I've got a 2-year-old Olde English Bulldogge and he shares so many of the same characteristics you describe for your Staffie. Not sure if you've tried this but I see you mentioned about Shadow eating bones, Dougie (our OEB) would do the same, he's a 32kg dog so has an incredibly strong jaw. We give him antlers to chew on now, they're so hard wearing and (the good ones) don't splinter or break up - they last forever. May be worth trying Shadow on them if you haven't already?
