As an alt black person this movie was PEAK representation at the time. Imagine a black girl in high school bonding with white emos over this movie and you basically have my life in a nutshell 😂
This was my favorite movie for a long time, I dont know how I didn't notice it for such a long time but I am bisexual and this movie is clearly what should have opened my eyes, the scene with Akasha and Lestat in the rose petal bath should have been enough, but then I again I was just born when this movie came out. XD Also RIP to the actress who played Akasha, she died shortly after they finished filming before the movie came out.
"Does he become like a hotboy rock star?" "Yes!" QotD - where vampirism is denoted by silver eyeliner. I do appreciate how horny this adaptation is, despite how much it messes with Lestat's backstory (and the bits and pieces it uses from QotD 😅). For more horny vampires - Dracula 2000, with Gerard Butler
@@demontrash There's also a Jude Law vampire movie, the wisdom of crocodiles. And idk if you did this one already, but "Heathers" would be perfect for you!

Aaliyah died in a plane crash shortly after principal photography was completed but had not yet actually performed any ADR redubbing for her character. Michael Rymer called in Aaliyah's brother, Rashad Haughton, to help with overdubbing her voice following her death due to their similar voices, special vocal technology was also used to make his voice sound more feminine. Aaliyah was the first actor to be cast for the film. She was enthusiastic about taking the role due to her fascination with Egyptian mythology and also being a huge fan of vampire horror fiction. For the scenes of Lestat's concert in Death Valley, over 3,000 goths were recruited from Melbourne nightclubs and on the internet, then driven on a fleet of buses to a quarry in Werribee to act as extras. The singing voice of Lestat was supplied by Jonathan Davis of Korn. However due to contractual difficulties, Davis could not sing on the soundtrack album release. The five songs written by he and Richard Gibbs for the movie were then performed on the album by Marilyn Manson, Chester Bennington of Linkin Park, David Draiman of Disturbed, Wayne Static of Static-X and Jay Gordon of Orgy. Davis was still allowed to play several instruments on the album. Stuart Townsend took the role of Lestat after originally being cast as Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) but was recast with Viggo Mortensen after four days of shooting because the filmmakers realized he was too young for the role. Stuart Townsend shares his name with a character from another Anne Rice novel, "The Witching Hour". Upon meeting Townsend, Rice handed him a copy of the book and instructed him to turn to a certain page number, whereupon was written "The Life of Stuart Townsend". Townsend was flattered that she had written him into her new book, until she told him that she had written it eleven years prior. The architecture of Aunt Maharet's house is based upon Angkor Wat, the stone temple located in Siem Reap, Cambodia. On the casting of Stuart Townsend as Lestat, Anne Rice stated "Everything I hear about the movie is good. Warner Bros. is extremely enthusiastic. They are working very hard to make it perfect. I have no real news. Let me repeat what I mentioned in a recent message. I met Stuart Townsend, the young man who is playing Lestat and he was absolutely charming. He had Lestat's excellent speaking voice and his feline grace. I cannot wait to see him in the film". Author of the novel Anne Rice considers this to be a terrible disappointment for her and for many of the readers as she believed it mutilated her own work. According to director Michael Rymer, all of the dialogue said by Jonathan Davis in his cameo as the ticket scalper who Jesse ( Marguerite Moreau ) runs into was all improvised on the spot and the amused reaction by Moreau is noticeably genuine. The film was posthumously released only 6 months after Aaliyah's death. The film is dedicated to her memory According to the time line from this film, Lestat was turned into a vampire in 1788. Louis states at the beginning of Interview with the Vampire (1994), that Lestat turned him in 1791, meaning Lestat had only been a vampire around three years before creating his new companion. Josh Hartnett, Heath Ledger, and Wes Bentley were all considered to replace Tom Cruise as Lestat after he declined to reprise his role. The concert scenes are set in Death Valley, California, but were actually filmed in Werribee, Australia. According to the director's commentary, the scene in which Marius ( Vincent Perez ) confronts David ( Paul McGann ) at the concert (at 1:05:30) saying, "Hello David," and then vanishing behind two passing people wasn't a special effect and was in fact Perez ducking out of the way. Aaliyah's second (and last) feature film following her role in Romeo Must Die (2000). The blood that Akasha has in her mouth is really cherry juice. The moment during the concert in Death Valley where the audience sings along with Lestat in ""Slept so long" was the extras' natural reaction and had not been planned by the filmmakers. While shooting the sequence, the extras had memorized the lyrics during the takes and had excitedly contributed by singing along, which pleasantly surprised director Michael Rymer who kept the improvisation in the film. The film was a subject of controversy due to inspiring a real life murder shortly after the film's theatrical release. In December 2002, Allan Menzies from West Lothian in Scotland murdered one of his friends. He claimed in court that it was Aaliyah's character "Queen Akasha" from the film that told him to do it. Akasha never actually attacks anyone by biting their neck. She either sets them on fire, rips their heart out, or bites another area of their body. Tom Cruise was initially asked to return in the role of Lestat, but he declined. Halle Berry, Jada Pinkett Smith, Samantha Mumba, Jenna Dewan, Rosario Dawson, Vivica A. Fox and Vanessa Williams were rumored to be taking the role of Queen Akasha before Aaliyah was cast. No actors from the previous film Interview with the Vampire (1994) return to reprise their roles (not even archive footage is used). The fact that the night club "The Admiral's Arms" was a vampire bar "in the meat packing district" of London is an homage to the night club "Mother" which was a vampyre bar located in the meat packing district of New York City. The lyrics which Jesse quotes to the Talamasca concerning "The Admiral's Arms" are not in the actual song "Redeemer." This is because Jonathan Davis was adamant the song be able to stand on its own and not be tied only as a device for the movie. Singer Aimee Nash of The Black Ryder duo had a cameo as a vampire singer in the "Admiral's Arms" vampire nightclub although the majority of her footage was deleted (she is still visible in the background of the nightclub scene). Wes Bentley was originally cast as Lestat, but he dropped out. The song playing during the infamous rose petal sequence is "Change" by the rock band, Deftones, the first single off their third album. Deftones had previously appeared in and played music for The Crow: City of Angels (1996) before releasing their first album, which starred Vincent Perez in his first lead role in an American theatrical film. Aaliyah read texts by Oscar Wilde in a thick Egyptian accent during her audition which helped convince the producers to cast her. Anne Rice has stated that she has only seen the film once and does not intend to watch it again effectively meaning she has disowned the film. A scene was filmed in which Akasha takes Lestat around the world and has him bathed by two young women to show him the benefits of living like a ruler instead of hiding as a vampire which greatly affected him emotionally. However, the director considered this scene to be "too long-winded" and deleted it. Aaliyah described her character as "a bit evil but very regal." She prepared for two months to perfect her character and described it as "there was a lot to bring Akasha to life, but it was really a lot of fun." Cher auditioned for the role of Akasha. (at around 38 mins) When Jesse goes to the vampire club, the song "Excess" by Tricky can be heard playing. The song was previously used in another horror thriller called Thir13en Ghosts (2001). Actress Pia Miranda played the part of Jesse's roommate in a short scene although it was deleted during post-production (it is included on the DVD and Blu-ray release). Despite this her name still appears in the credits. Michael Petroni's first film screenplay. He would later screen-write The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010), The Rite (2011), The Book Thief (2013), and The Pope's Exorcist (2023) as well as write/create the series, Messiah (2020). The fight scene between Lestat and the vampires at the concert was originally more gruesome with footage being filmed of Lestat decapitating a vampire, showing its head rolling across the stage with blood dripping from its mouth. (at around 1h 35 mins) David (Paul McGann) says to Jesse, declining her offer, that he is too old to live forever. McGann plays another character that effectively lives forever in some fashion, the 8th Doctor on Doctor Who (2005). The image in the slideshow that Jesse shows the Talamusca which shows a human-like figure messily devouring an infant is "Saturn devouring his son," painted in 1820-23 by Spanish painter Francisco Goya, and is ironically unrelated to vampires. One of only a handful of Australian horror feature films which are vampire movies. These titles are: Thirst (1979), Bloodlust (1992), The Wicked (1987), Queen of the Damned (2002) and Daybreakers (2009). What We Do in the Shadows (2014) was from neighbouring nation New Zealand. Aaliyah gets top billing as the title character despite not appearing in the film until the 51 minute mark and having a total of 26 minutes of screen time. The moment where Lestat sternly tells David, "I think you wanted this back" while giving him his journal is Lestat reminding David that he is still alive and therefore still owns it but is allowing David to safeguard it for him since he can trust him to keep it safe in his collection. The line, "I'm much too old to live forever," that David tells Jesse at the ending is a reference to the fact that in the books, David eventually does become a vampire but only after he is magically restored to his youth. Jonathan Davis, Korn: (at around 56 mins) the composer appears as a ticket scalper trying to peddle tickets outside the concert.
I remember at the time the film sort of bombed, aside from lots of hype around Aaliyah's recent death. I know, for me, as a MASSIVE Anne Rice book fan at the time, I was originally disappointed that they'd basically crammed both 'The Vampire Lestat' and 'Queen of the Damned' into one film and just glossed over so many characters. BUT, I've since come around on the film and have a soft spot for it outside of relating it to the books. I usually just tell people to ignore the book-stuff when watching it and just enjoy it on it's own. That seems to work best for me. 😀 P.S. I still always forget how freaking hot Paul McGann looks in this film, but that's the Doctor Who fangirl in me speaking.
Also I would recommend for you to do next “Warm Bodies” with Nicholas Hoult, is a really good movie! It has the perfect combination between romance, tragedy, comedy and well... zombies 🤣
I was confused by the live chat haha oh man! I love this movie, RIP Aaliyah, she was a wonderful Queen, shame she didn’t get to finish the movie but even so, the scenes she was in, she did it great in my opinion. Love the reaction! Good to know I’m not the only one xD “I hate how this makes me feel” hahaha
Aaliyah did finish the movie. It was fully completed, she just needed her lines re-dubbed, which her brother Rashad did for her. This actually ended up giving her voice a more demon like and otherworldly vibe with their voices intertwined.
OMGGG yes yes yes!!! I’ve been feeling pretty tired and down these days and I just literally screamed of happiness!! 🤣💕 This is my favorite vampire movie (The entire vampire chronicles by Anne Rice are amazing!!) Thank you so much for listening your audience! You guys are the best! ❤️
I remember always being taken out of this film by the fact that Lestat apparently went to Bako to start Korn 🤣 If you grew up when that music was new it was just such a weird thing to see that voice coming out of this man and for it to be done as if he's supposed to just be the hottest thing 🤣🤣🤣
You want fan fiction.... just read the books! This movie was based off of two books from The Vampire Chronicles, "The Vampire Lestat" and " Queen of the Damned"...more so the former. But I swear, The Vampire Chronicles series is so good you won't be able to put it down! Also, please tell me you two will react to the new show coming out based off of the first book in the series???
What I don't understand about this movie is that how do you combined parts of the 2nd and 3rd books and end up with a movie that's just 90 minutes long ?
I think most of the hate for this movie comes from Ann Rice purists that have read the books and rage over the movie not being exactly the same, and also the type of people that jump on the hate bandwagon so they can feel artistically superior and intellectual. In reality it was an entertaining movie with a great soundtrack.
This is a terrible movie, and we all know it. But there's still something about it. It's just so raunchy. And Jonathan Davies' vocals are so perfect for it. They're just so strange and inhuman sounding. Plus the songs are actually GOOD! As long as you can get over the books, this is a really fun movie.

I obsessed with this film! Your commentary is great as always. I would love it if you guys did a reaction to another Jane Austin novel adaptation like Sense & Sensibility, Mansfield Park or Emma (the Gwyneth Paltrow one).
Favorite vampire at the moment I kind of got over vampires in movies, after twilight, interview with a vampire and queen of the damned, and I just thought “ok, I’m over vampires” BUT…. then I discovered vampires in video games. I know you only do movie commentaries, but I would be really curious to hear your opinion on my current fav vampire: Astarion from Baldur’s Gate 3. He ahhh….. Just made me realize that I wasn’t actually over vampires just yet 😂
Yo I love all these Vampire Chronicles reactions! If you guys want more, there’s and ‘Interview with the Vampire’ television series on amc as well. You guys should definitely check it out!
There are some fantastic Akasha/Lestat fics on AO3. But being the smut fiend that I am, I stick to my faves. And right now, that includes a fabulous, bisexual disaster, satanic anti-pope and his brothers, his boyfriend and The Clergy. 😂😂😂 I am trash.
Love this movie no matter how “bad” it’s considered. Saw it in theaters with my parents when I was 10 and I was into pale, goth boys ever since lol. I always hated Jesse’s character because she was annoying and obsessed with Lestat. “Leave Lestat alone!” Lol 😅
@@demontrash a litt….before… 💀 Yo, that is the ultimate simp vampire film!!! It’s from 89! It’s the same as being a fan of Star Wars, Indiana Jones, or Alien which were all made in the late 70s/early 80s……haaaa. I’m sad and feeling old now. 🥺
Marius was my favorite. So sexy the way he says “Akasha please” ❤️. Stuart was a terrible Lestat. Even the author Ann Rice didn't like the way he was played. Aaliyah to me was the best female vampire (Akasha) in the history of women vampires, she was beautifully stunning and dangerous.
Really love your reactions ladies, they always compared me to this main character and newer from twilight, but I took care of those people . Cheers from Croatia we have real (as you call it) :) vampires here .
No disrespect to the guy who played Lestat. But Aaliyah CARRIED this movie, her performance was amazing. It just saddens me that this was her last role. She was just coming into herself as a performer. Akasha was frightening, arrogant, and yes sexy. Aaliyah embodied that in this performance. RIP Babygirl Aaliyah ❤
----- @tvaddict6623 ----- - Although I personally liked this movie in its' own right, Rice definitely had a totally different opinion on the matter. She practically begged them not to make this movie. -----
I saw this movie first and then I watched interview with a vampire and now I'm listening to the audiobooks but still love the movies as they are, plus the soundtrack is my religion. I fell in love with Aaliyah our queen and only queen and the actor Lestat because of his gothic dead look arrogant he had going on. I am liking the books and am accepting the TV show with Sam Reid's cuz Sam is so hot, but they have to keep up with Aaliyah or I won't be able to watch it. ill just watch a person review the eps and react to it lol
Hot vampire - "I'm so alone" These 2 - "You poor thing...let me help.." Normal average/ugly guy - "I'm so alone" These 2 - "Get a life and grow some balls emo loser!" ;)
I do believe that Aaliyah was a much better singer than an actress I'm sorry if I'm sounding like I'm spitting on her grave but Queen of the Damned was an absolute mess in my opinion. Thank goodness she will be remembered for her singing and her music. I had never seen it when it came out after she passed away and I was I believe a sophomore in high school and I got it just about a month or two ago I ordered it off of Amazon thinking okay I'm going to get it out of respect for Aaliyah this was her last movie she really wanted to spread her wings and become an actress and I sat through it with my husband and both of us were just like no. One of my big things was the main character of Lestat trying to look like he's really singing when in fact he's lip-syncing to Jonathan Davis of Korn. Now I'm not the biggest fan of Korn to begin with that's more my husband genre of music. If you really watch the one scene where he's singing to a song that Jonathan Davis recorded you can absolutely tell his lips just do not match up to the scene with Jonathan Davis did

You want fan fiction.... just read the books! This movie was based off of two books from The Vampire Chronicles, "The Vampire Lestat" and " Queen of the Damned"...more so the former. But I swear, The Vampire Chronicles series is so good you won't be able to put it down!
Also, please tell me you two will react to the new show coming out based off of the first book in the series???
yeah we plan to react to the first episode of the new interview with a vampire series and see if people are interested!
1:43 when you figure out the brunch is actually a pyramid scheme pitch.
What I don't understand about this movie is that how do you combined parts of the 2nd and 3rd books and end up with a movie that's just 90 minutes long ?
Exactly! My complaint as well!
Yeah, they skipped and changed SO MUCH! 😢
You don't 😂
Saw a thumbnail🧛🏻 Never clicked so fast before
By the way , that wasn't actor voice singing that was jonathan davis( the lead singer of korn) voice
But it was in the New Korn style vs the good old stuff. Not saying this wasn’t good. Just not their best.
Finally! A channel that reacts to Queen of the Damned 🔥 Plus the editing & the commentary had me laughing! 👌
Lol the straightwashing in this movie.
Because he is?
@@boop79 what? straight? Lestat?? 🤣
@@boop79HAHHAHHHAHAHAHHAHHH
It's an underrated movie.
The soundtrack is fire and Aaliyah was amazing in this. 💜
They really we're desperate to make lestat straight in this movie
Because he is…?
@@boop79 Nope lestat is a queer man/vampire the love of his life is a man this is the same lestat form interview with a vampire it's based on the book that they butchered and they only did it to spite the writer who was the trying to get her rights back
Being with a woman doesn't make you straight.
@@boop79He is bi.
I obsessed with this film! Your commentary is great as always. I would love it if you guys did a reaction to another Jane Austin novel adaptation like Sense & Sensibility, Mansfield Park or Emma (the Gwyneth Paltrow one).
The editing for these kills me every time LOL I'm loving the simp for vamps series
Thanks for watching ❤️🥰
I love this movie .
it's so good!
Some one said she was a pick me choose me girl and im like yes she lowkey irritated me
I saw this movie last week for first time. Makes me feel in my 20’s again…. And I fell in love of Stuart Townsend 🖤🖤🖤
Favorite vampire at the moment
I kind of got over vampires in movies, after twilight, interview with a vampire and queen of the damned, and I just thought “ok, I’m over vampires” BUT…. then I discovered vampires in video games.
I know you only do movie commentaries, but I would be really curious to hear your opinion on my current fav vampire: Astarion from Baldur’s Gate 3.
He ahhh….. Just made me realize that I wasn’t actually over vampires just yet 😂
Don’t get me started on Astarion 😅😂
The two greatest vampire movies there is
Queen of the damned and
the first Lost boys movie. 1987, I believe when it came out
This is NOTHING like the book except that it has a few of the same characters.
The "trail" effect when the vampires are using their speed is STUPID. They could have done that effect much better
Lestat’s music was like “New Korn” 😅
You guys would loveeee Van Helsing (2004) especially the brides!!!
Yo I love all these Vampire Chronicles reactions! If you guys want more, there’s and ‘Interview with the Vampire’ television series on amc as well. You guys should definitely check it out!
Lestat isn’t a bad sub, he’s a brat. He’s literally called The Brat Prince 😂
*cough* ...drop the link.... *cough*
UMMM LINK…👀
I recommand Dracula 2000 ! You would love it
Aaliyah is a icon, May she Rip 🕊️, cause Hollywood is evil
Love this movie no matter how “bad” it’s considered. Saw it in theaters with my parents when I was 10 and I was into pale, goth boys ever since lol. I always hated Jesse’s character because she was annoying and obsessed with Lestat. “Leave Lestat alone!” Lol 😅
If I was born in the 90s instead of 2005 and if wrestling wasn’t my pan awakening it definitely would have been this movie
This movie speaks to Papa Trash's soul and I absolutely love to see it. This was a wild experience to watch as a teen.
Don't vampires have like Jedi mind trick powers? Couldn't they just pacify people, and say "We come in peace." if they wanted to chill with normies?
That movie is so HOT A+
Was David killed at the end
In fairness, Lestat's real love was more Louis.
you should watch "vampire in Brooklyn"
So, y’all never grew up with LostBoys?!
………😦
A true classic
I think it was a little before out time 😅
@@demontrash a litt….before… 💀
Yo, that is the ultimate simp vampire film!!!
It’s from 89!
It’s the same as being a fan of Star Wars, Indiana Jones, or Alien which were all made in the late 70s/early 80s……haaaa.
I’m sad and feeling old now.
🥺
@AnaGonzalez-ky2de the lost boys is from 1987
Marius was my favorite. So sexy the way he says “Akasha please” ❤️. Stuart was a terrible Lestat. Even the author Ann Rice didn't like the way he was played. Aaliyah to me was the best female vampire (Akasha) in the history of women vampires, she was beautifully stunning and dangerous.
You ladies are cute to watch, loved the reaction
Aaliyah was the best part of this terrible movie
Her and the music
This movie got me in to rock music, along with SAW, The Matrix, Freddy vs Jason and Bride of Chucky
Am addicted to this video it's so funny 😂
I hated this movie. No where even close to the original story.
NOT THE CHRISTIAN MUSIC 😅😅😅😅
What would I like you to watch? For me EMMA. More for you that I might not mind seeing you watch? FROM DUSK TO DAWN or LOVE AT FIRST BITE.
You should watch I am dragon! it's a Russian movie that you can watch it English dubbed online. Its right up your alley trust me!
Technically this film was more Vampire Lestat in adaptation.
Really love your reactions ladies, they always compared me to this main character and newer from twilight, but I took care of those people . Cheers from Croatia we have real (as you call it) :) vampires here .
Woo hoo, legit Vamp trash.
They made so many changes from the books that the movie is almost a different story.
i honestly can't watch this without louis lol i remembered loving the movie when i first watched it, but now. i need louis and lestat together 😢😢
Waiiit... Underworld didn't illicit feelings for you? I'm a lil beige straight girly and Kate Beckinsale in underworld definitely illicited feelings 😉
I LOVE this movie!!! I was like 15 years old when I saw this and yeah - the hormones were hormoning...
Why did you have to expose me like that at 19:27?
No disrespect to the guy who played Lestat. But Aaliyah CARRIED this movie, her performance was amazing. It just saddens me that this was her last role. She was just coming into herself as a performer. Akasha was frightening, arrogant, and yes sexy. Aaliyah embodied that in this performance. RIP Babygirl Aaliyah ❤
My all time FAVORITE movie 😍😍😍🥰❤️❤️❤️
Just subscribed queens
I Really Enjoyed This Show! I'm Aaliyah Fangal!
Check out the books...the movie's good, but the books....damn
Lestat is just a Bratty Sub pmsl
As a whole it’s not a great movie. But there are book elements they captured quite well…

- Although I personally liked this movie in its' own right, Rice definitely had a totally different opinion on the matter.
She practically begged them not to make this movie.

They did change a lot from the book though lol but I'm not mad. I had a crush on Marius lol
Hot vampire - "I'm so alone"
These 2 - "You poor thing...let me help.."
Normal average/ugly guy - "I'm so alone"
These 2 - "Get a life and grow some balls emo loser!"
;)
Dommy Mommy.
If you really watch the one scene where he's singing to a song that Jonathan Davis recorded you can absolutely tell his lips just do not match up to the scene with Jonathan Davis did
Whre is season 2 of interview the vampire reaction? :) theyre moving on the second book and eventually the Queen of the Damned!
