  • A group of UFC fighters comprised of Gabriel Gonzaga, Forrest Griffin, Dana White, Brian Stann, and Rashad Evans among others, visited the Marine Corps martial arts center to face off with members of the Marine Corps. The group of UFC fighters was quickly overwhelmed by the fitter, stronger and in many ways more skilled members of the Marine Corps were able to overwhelm them with a fair amount of ease.

It was awesome to see the UFC and U.S.M.C. sharing information with each on a level that both could walk away with value in the exchange. The initial takedown technique shown to the Marines by the UFC fighter is a great example, simple but extremely effective. Great video!

As a marine sergeant, these are w different training environments where skill sets are separate by years of training. McMAP is designed to teach someone who has never fought before to learn quick take downs to disable or kill their opponenant. A martial artist is someone who has spent years of training to become a skilled warrior. The training they go through are totally different. A martial artist is likely going to be someone who was raised as a warrior from birth, while there are marines that have never laid a fist in someone before boot camp and not every marine is going to be a super warrior. The illusion of the marine corps being fanatical warriors is brought forth by the history of warriors that stood out amongst them. But there are marines that are martial artists since their youth. If you put a martial artist against a new marine that only knows McMAP, the martial artist will win. Put a martial artist against a skilled marine martial artists then it's a skilled battle. The conditions of a new marine that is going through McMAP who has never thrown a punch before joining the marine corps is going to be overrated and maybe over glorify himself just because he is a tan belt McMAP. So the conditions won't be what would be expected in the form of UFC vs USMC if it's by that standard. However, the martial artist has not overcome the trials of becoming a marine therefore those dedication and commitment may be questionable when it comes to survival situations that marines learn. Get a martial artist to do marine corps combat conditioning and learn how to do a CFT, or the obstacle course those exercises will become easy and routine. But at the same time, marines do go into the pit having squad battles going for last man standing in a free for all, but that doesn't mean they are skilled martial artists. Saying put a marine in the octagon is like saying put a UFC fighter on patrol without learning tactics. Marines are warriors yes, but not all marines are skilled martial artists.

I had tears of joy and love for them. I didn't bring them in the world to die protecting me. Parents don't hold their kids for the first time and say, you'll make a great soldier. I know the military will always be a necessary part of America to keep cowards at bay. But I will never wish any of our soldiers and my kids will have to lay down their lives so I can continue to have the freedoms I love. I'll pray until the day I die that the leaders of the world will learn to unite in a common goal of peace and freedom. Unfortunately I feel many will have to die until my fairytale dream will ever have a chance of coming true

I am a Marine and I have to agree with you. Here are some quotes from one of the most famous Marines, General Smedely Butler, that agrees with you too.
      Smedley Butler/Quotes
I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested. Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents.
There are only two things we should fight for. One is the defense of our homes and the other is the Bill of Rights.
War is just a racket... I believe in adequate defense at the coastline and nothing else.
War is a racket. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives.

farrell cox I loved being a Marine. My daughter was an FMF Corpsman in Al Asad and Falluja and saw combat as convoy medic. She's held a Marine's brains in his open skull. She's had Marines grab her uniform and cry "doc, doc, don't let me die." I am very proud of her commitment to her brothers in arms. That doesn't change the fact that the Marine Corps is just a tool of big corporations and the banking elite. A fact that both my daughter and I were both too young to understand at the time. This is an opinion of one of the greatest Marines and it took him 33 years to understand it. So, that being said, maybe you need to unfuck yourself and wake the fuck up, Marine, said "Old Gimlet Eye".

Very cool you got to experience that, Gabriel. Even though you did crush my heart when you head kicked one of my favorite fighters of all time. Talking about Cro Cop. But you beat him at his own game! I was out of the Marines before they started implenenting this new fighting system. I am glad they did. Our old training was kind of unrealistic...

Everyone is born with weaknesses from their prior life. We try to overcome them in many ways. The USMC is the only organization I know of that can straighten out that bent piece of wood and too some degree make it permanent. You have to be broken and rebuilt correctly. It's amazing to see the results. You can tell a Marine from any other service. Semper Fi

Lucixir I don't agree. They will win for sure but, ufc fighters can still pose as a threat and it all depends on experience
