I love these guitars and I appreciate the fact someone finally played one without a ridiculous amount of fret buzz in a video. Nicely done.

Chris is a great player and musician! Saw him recently with Marty and the Fabulous Superlatives. Recently purchased one of these new Epiphone Masterbilts and love it!

Finally... a well put together, interesting, informative review of a guitar by a well known working musician. Chris is a an extremely talented steel player as well as an excellent "armpit" guitarist. I may go and check these out.... been looking for something more balanced than a dreadnought for recording.

Great review. I picked one up today from Dawsons music store in Liverpool, England and I love it!

Good, informative demo. Having seen/heard so much emphasis placed in these Masterbilt Century videos on all the non-traditional -- as in jazz and swing -- uses for these new models, I'd be glad to find just one in which the acoustic archtop's original design purpose is adequately demonstrated. Since the Century series was announced, I've done extensive reading on both these models and the stylistic preferences of those who are intrigued to find new, relatively inexpensive archtops on the market: all those I've read about are interested in these guitars for a jazz/swing application. They want to know if the tone is one of an authentic archtop and they want to know how they sound chopping chords 4/4 in a swing setting.

He does play some chopping chords at 2:14.

Yup, I noticed, but I didn't find it much of a demo in this style, due to brevity and the fact that he talks over most of the chords.

They could have extended the length of the video, or do a separate video with just the guitar. But since it appears they were trying to show its versatility and break down what come with the guitar, focusing on that style may not have worked with what they were going for. I think what he did show was good enough to get an idea of what it can do, the rest would either come from the player at the store, or when people post videos demoing the guitar themselves.

This looks and sounds great, especially as played by Chris. I already own two Epis, a Swingster and an older made in Japan Emperor, which is a really fine box, but wouldn't mind getting a Master. I'd like to know what Chris is playing in these videos.

The reviewer makes the point over and over again that this guitar can be used for more than just 'old timey' music and then in every clip proceeds to play 'old timey' music......

So now that we've heard Chris Scruggs make it walk and talk, can we get one in the hands of Joey McKenzie and put it on TH-cam? That would be phenomenal.

  • @drawlr55

Although he said the guitar can be used for other than old style music, old style music is all he played (albeit great). Let's hear some strumming or some other application.

not convinced, but i'm going to the local dealer to check one out. I play archtops daily, so it won't be long: bring mine out and compare...

    • @manuelfraiman5534
      @manuelfraiman5534 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

All right, very good acoustic for the price. Not good enough for me to replace my current instrument. Although a good try, the piezo pick up is not the great thing to have on it, but you can put a minihum and use it alone or mix the two. If you play jazz and have the need for it, I'd say go for it , no hesitation! I'm almost totally satisfied with mine, I'll upgrade it and won't buy another one

    Be wary of these guitars
    I played all of them
    The olympic, century and deluxe
Possibly one of the most , dead, flat sounding guitars I’ve ever played
Massive neck, that doesn’t diminish in size, when the body reduces, from deluxe down to Olympic
These are massively over , hyped , but the build quality is ok

Just bought this and in 2 hours decided to send it back
It looks stunning and its really well build but....sounds like a tin when unplugged and its quiet, no bass ,no sustain and it has a weird thick neck unplayable
While plugged is not just plug&play..no sir..its a hustle ..it has a pick up under the bridge and if you touch or hit the bridge you will hear it in the amp..plus when strumming you can hear a strange vibrato from the behind the bridge part of the strings...it just doesn't sound right
Posting this here maybe will help somebody

I own both the Olympic and the De Luxe Classic. The piezo comes no where near these tones. I love the guitars and they have changed my style but feel Epiphone has left out some key points. These are steam pressed tops and backs not carved, also my De Luxe's top is not one piece but two. The finish is matted. The PickGuard has required holes drilled into the body. I took mine off because it muffled the sound board and even rattled when tight. Really the demo I'd like to see is by a contemporary arch top player, not a millennial who still finger or flat picks folk rock or blues

Do your homework before you buy an Epiphone. There have been tons of customer service problems! Not smart to listen to someone being paid to promote the guitar.

Volkan Özkan I've got the Olympic, and it really doesn't. You notice most when playing it with another guitar, and it really punches through the mid. Sit down and try one alongside a friend playing some other guitars
