Battle For The Throne: The Story Of Lil Wayne & Jay-Z

  • There’s an old saying of there is no room for two kings in one castle. There can only be one true king. But simply wanting to be the best has been a part of the hip-hop culture since the very beginning.
Being the greatest is one thing but uneasy is the head that wears the crown. Upcoming people are always gunning for that top spot and grow hungrier by the day. This is the basis behind the competitive relationship between Jay-Z and Lil Wayne for the title of "the best rapper alive".

Around 04-08 nobody was really in a position to challenge Wayne because Jay was retired in 03, Em was entering rehab around 04-05, Kanye was just arriving, 50 was focusing on his artists and his multiple beefs, etc. Wayne was in the best position to really take off and he did as soon as 05 hit because that run from 2005-2009 was just insane

18:18 Lil Wayne also wanted to feature Jay-Z on the song Dr. Carter. Swizz Beatz said "It was a concept that could have either been for Wayne or Jay. All he had to do was fill in the blanks. It had “Good morning, Dr. Carter,” the breathing and the heartbeat. Jay heard it first and loved it. But I didn’t expect him to take it once I seen where he was going with [American Gangster]. It just wasn’t good timing. It definitely fit Wayne. He’s representing the next generation and he delivered on it. The crazy part is when Jay was talking about the concept, he was talking about rebirthing a new artist, and whoever the new artist was would have been the feature. That probably was going to be Wayne, and Wayne wanted to feature [Jay] on it. So they were thinking the same thing without knowing it"

a lot like how the Kanye West and 50 Cent beef represented a paradigm shift in rap culture, the saga of Jay Z and Lil' Wayne is a time capsule for a time in which the prototypical 'golden age' traditionalism era transitioned into the 'new wave' experimental era, it happens all the time when a new genre forms and two different subgenres find themselves in conjuction but many of the people from the previous generation don't want to pass the torch, Weezy represented the 21st century futurism and Hov represented classic hip hop in pop culture so as usual there's often conflict between the fans of each respective artist however most of those people are Stans so who cares lol

Jay paints pictures and his life is interesting so he’ll always be top of the top. But Wayne has said some of the craziest shit I’ve ever heard anyone say. Point blank, NOBODY can talk like Wayne, he’s a mad scientist of the English language

Jay is my GOAT, we gotta remember he has survived multiple eras. Outlasted a lot of the greats. Won and lost battles etc and yet nothing has stopped him. Wayne has his (my guy as well) but the difference between them is the actual lyrics. Hov was for the ceos and Wayne was for the young wild cats

I was a hater on the low cuz Wayne was no where near the level of a Fab or Budden or AZ or Cassidy or Nas in 2003, 2004 when he started saying that "best rapper alive" and I WAS NOT feeling that, at that time. Now?? I don't have a dog in the fight but he can stand on being the best rapper alive REAL strong in 2022 compared to 20 years ago

Please do 2pac’s me against the world 1995 classic album because the Lp is a tour de force in social commentary and soul-searching where 2pac is wrestling the ills of society and the defects let’s discovered in his own experience.
