Hi all welcome back to another video Dereck Reacts back at it again! This time around we take a look at another PATREON request with Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin singing their song together with "Je t'aime, moi non plus." A very sensual but steamy song of the passion for lovemaking. It's lyrically explicit but can be interpreted in more ways than one. Creative sounds and vocal delivery help heighten your stimuli , see what I mean now!

this man is a genius, an excellent composer. I miss him.
Mythical duet, husband and wife legendary...
I like this song and many of songs of Gainsbourg.
So, "Initiales BB" (BB for Brigitte Bardot) is a great song for me.
Oui elle claque celle-ci ,
et niveau instru 'love on the beat"
Was a big hit in europe i think america was too prude for this haha✨
Just think of that in England the BBC obviously banned to play the song in any cases (if I know well), now imagine the Top Of The Pops editorial staff when the song reached Nr.1. :)
interdit de radio en france également lol
So was the uk it was banned
@@xyzdgthereal fun fact, it was actually on two top 10 spots at the same time. The original label decided to drop it and then second label took it, but it already charted for first label and then it was on the top for the second label at the same time. So the same song took two spots.
South American radios played it
Your reaction is priceless😂😂😂😂😂 you stopped the song before the end and you seemed so shocked 😅😂
Can you imagine that in France, they play this song on radio! I’m 40 and I know this song since my childhood… and I love it!
Idem
why he said me neither ? or is it a French style ?
@@ethiodude9886 Nothing to do with his frenchness, it's just Gainsbourg being a brilliant smart-ass.
@@ethiodude9886 yes; it's a french style : it's like "me too" but more mmm difficult to say; maybe little ironic ?
@@jeflehardi91 oh! i see , like hitting around the bush
I'm 63 yrs old woman yet heard this song I think in the 80's as I was in my 20's then!! I ADORE 'Je t'aime, moi non plus'!! Obviously it's very sexy & at the time I didn't understand exactly what they meant, but still it didn't matter to me as the music & their voices were just beautiful (& sexy!). It was sad that Serge died from a heart attack in 1991. Also Jane Birkin died only yesterday of a heart stroke aged 76. She was so beautiful too. At the age of 20 she left England & lived in France until her death. RIP Jane & Serge 💔💔
Its so funny to see your reaction! Imagine how it was shocking at the end of 70!!!! Us, here in France we know this song since we are child! ( im born in 76) Serge is a genious and made a lot of crazy beautiful songs!!!!!
At the end of the 60s, not the 70s.
I was at a soccer match in Dublin in the 70’s. At half-time they’d usually play some Irish ballads or pop or whatever. But one evening, they played .. this. There were two old men sitting in front of me. I could see they were taking it in. And when it finished, one turns to the other and says .. I think I’ll head straight home after the game.
😅
Dereck, if you like changing rythms and furious violins : listen to "Initials BB" !
Je ne savais pas quoi regarder, après... Merci.
Serge Gainsbourg - Initiales B.B.
oui ! Et "Bonnie and clyde" aussi !
so Fake !
melody nelson.. is absolutely magic
Marilou sous la neige aussi.
I love this one too
Yesss, wiht Amazing basses!
The whole album is a masterpiece.
❤😊
Jane Birkin was one of the most iconic women of the 60's and utterly beautiful. Her love with Gainsbourg gave us amazing songs and the famous french actress and director Charlotte Gainsbourg.
It's been a while since I was waiting for this one. The most beautiful love song of all time.
Maybe the most influencial and significant french artist of the last 50 years
A more accurate translation of the lyrics would be "I'm moving back and forth between your thighs".
Yep - between the kidneys doesn't translate well in english.
Rather : between your hips. The problem is that French uses the same word for the kidneys themselves and the general area of the body where they're situated, the hips. So, "reins" was mistranslated as "kidneys" by someone who obviously didn't realize how weird "between your kidneys" would seem in English.
@@olivierdastein2604 indeed !
so many good song from gainsbourg , thank you dereck , rip serge
Gainsbourg is pronounced geinsboor. This song is epic, was a must towards the end of teenage parties when the slow dances started…
When I was a teenager. a local radio station had Saturday night request. All the teen boys would request this song.
one of the most beautiful french song ..
Dereck, I strongly suggest that you listen to the song "Love on The Beat" by Serge Gainsbourg. Je t'aime moi non plus is representative of the eroticism of the late 60s in France. "Love on the Beat" is sort of the pornographic but still poetic version of the 80s. The music is absolutely brilliant
Love on the beat could be ok.
J'adore !
Une des meilleures pour moi avec '' Aux enfants de la chance '' '' No Comment '' et '' you're under arrest'' 👌🏽
And "En Melody" a more upbeat 70's version.
It wouldn't be played on the radio anymore nowadays :/
This song came out when my boyfriend and I had just started to go steady. I can't describe how it was to be 'courting' in 1969 when this song was everywhere - sadly that era will never be repeated.
Good times! 😆💕
I laughed so hard watching you react to this video 😂😂😂
We’re uncomfortable in 2021 imagine in 1969 when the song was released 😱
A journalist asked Serge Gainsbourg : "what is the best advertising agent for you ?” He answered the Vatican 😅 because the Vatican newspaper judge the song as obscene.
And of course everybody wanted to listen to it 😂 Huge scandal 😵💫
Your face was epic 😂
Imagine that the Birkin bag( from Hermes i think) , Who is very expensive and very popular still now was create because of Jane Birkin !!!!!!!!!
A pur genius .., ah Gainsbourg we miss him … 🙏🕊🇫🇷
Their daughter is a phenomenal singer/actress/fashion icon, her name is Charlotte Gainsbourg and she starred in some GREAT movies like Antichrist and Melancholia and she has amazing songs such as The Songs That We Sing and Deadly Valentine! You should check her out!
He wrote this for... Brigitte Bardot but separate from her, so it went to Jane... He recorded the whisperings of Jane without telling her ! It's also a movie !
Actually the first version is with Bardot, but she did not want the song to be published. Jane Birkin was younger and had a voice that sounded like a teenager almost, so it was quite scandalous! But so iconic!
Love on the beat of Gainsbourg ! Listen !!!
the original was Brigitte Bardot who thought it may ruin her acting career at the time so Jane Birkin was asked to fill in and the rest is History. Many people when surveyed claimed this was the song that got everyone to get it on at the time. Jane was ingenue and his Muse at the time and by the time this song charted everywhere she was an Icon and gave birth to the Birkin Bag.
La javanaise is his best song !
l'eau à la bouche pour moi ;)
@@johnnyprovencallegaulois6334 y'en a tellement...initials bb perso...
Gainsbourg first wrote this song for a duet with Brigitte Bardot, his girlfriend in 1968. The song was recorded, but at the last moment, she got scared and made Serge swear never to release this song! Later, Serge met Jane Birkin and went back on his word a bit by re-recording the track with his new love (wich became her wife). This song belongs to the story of France.
They say I love you, and then just describe the demonstration!
And this,... under the most phallic monument ever! 🗼
The result : Charlotte!
Like her mother Jane Birkin, Charlotte Gainsbourg
is a very good actress!
ahh ... Gainsbourg ! I recommend to all of you the film retracing his life: Gainsbourg heroic life ( Gainsbourg, vie héroïque in french )
a legendary couple, so sensual and awesome...thanks dereck !!
It really is "kidneys". Always love Gainsbourg, thank you so much for looking into his songs!
Gainsbourg great melodist !!!!!
His daughter, Charlotte, is also a singer.
Some titles for the curious :
- Deadly Valentines
- Ring-A-Ring O' Roses
- L'un part, l'autre reste
- I'm a lie
etc...
Now I think it's time to react "Poupée de cire poupée de son"
The perfect combo:
- written by Gainsbourg
- sang by France Gall
- Eurovision winner
😎👌
Only to contraste it to Les sucettes ...

I can add:
-Big influence in manga music
"I go and I come" is a literal translation, a more accurate one is "I go back-and-forth".
Ha ha ha ! You got me when you said you wet your pants !!! :-)
Their is a 12” disco version of “Jet’aime (Moi Non Plus)” by Donna Summer that’s nothing short of brilliant ! You really need to hear that version.
This song was baned for a long time 😂😂😂 Too naughty... but with soft words (in french 😂😂😂)
Very erotic... so chocking 😂😂😂😂 But now, it is very sweet... very poetic 🤩🤩💖💖💖
The original version he did with Brigitte Bardot is better, much more sensual, torrid, sexy etc.
I agree
She asked him to not commercialise it because she was married at this time and he didn't, but the BB version is really nice.
Hey Dereck,Madonna did a live version of this song on a show in Paris,a must watch! Greetings from Portugal 🇵🇹
You can see their daughter Charlotte in the move Nymphomaniac
I think you were blushing at some point… LOL
Great song, but even better whistling from Derek. Hidden talent!
Oh Dereck t es trop mimi quand tu rougis....
Kiss ;)
Sencured in UK and USA.
Not sencured in UK, it even was a great hit !
Well Dereck, it's the very first time I've EVER heard someone whistle to this single. Pre-Google, pre PC's, I played this in 1969 to my friends in the 6th form (male) common room and it sent me way up in popularity! My French/English dictionary unfortunately didn't improve the lyrics at all, but we got the message and the official film featured the huge erection, the Eiffel Tower....
Jane's eldest daughter was fathered by John Barry who composed 11 Bond themes. Kate died, assumed suicide, at her apartment in Paris 16th, aged 46.
BBC radio banned it, and they were the only legal broadcasters at the time. Naturally this caused everyone to go and buy it and make it a hit !
More of Serge Gainsbourg:
-le poinçonneur des Lilas
-la javanaise
-comme un boomerang
Je suis venu te dire que je m'en vais, sorry angel, l'eau à la bouche
Torrey canyon
Ford mustang
Melody Nelson
Black trombone
Intoxicated man
etc, etc.
Brigitte Bardot alias BB preferred not to sing this song created for her by Serge Gainsbourg so as not to hurt her companion at the time the billionaire Gunter Sachs. It is therefore the new companion of Serge, the young British woman Jane Birkin who will play in the film "Murder on the Nile" in 1978.
The song was censorship in 1969 in england and in italy.
The original version was with Brigitte Bardot, but the french actress didn't want to take out this song with explicit lyrics.
Hi, can't wait to see your reaction listening to " Love on the beat "
A classic for sure! I couldn't stop laughing while you were reading those lyrics like a grocery list. Love it!!! 🤣 Donna Summer covered this exact song for the movie Thank God It's Friday, with a slow disco beat.
LOL Dereck, ta réaction m'a fait sourire
Il s'attendait pas à ça 🤣
Serge + Jane = Love = Charlotte
Jane Birkin here, one of the very few women together with Bardot, who could have a quite decent career as a singer, wothout knowing how to properly sing. They had such special and natural voices and basically told you a story with every song.
Dereck, the look on your face when U heard Jane's moans of pleasure 🤣🤣🤣
I love how you love music like i love it Derrick.
Funny story. Serge was once interviewed by Julie Snyder in Quebec and when she asked him what was the most beautiful gift he ever gave a woman, he answered "ma queue!". Translation: "My cock!". Without missing a beat, Julie said that maybe we should ask her if she agrees with that statement.🤣 That made Serge burst into laughter. He also said that the best sexual partner he ever had was Brigitte Bardot, but I can't remember if it's from the same interview.
Have you checked out " love to love ya baby" by Donna summer yet?
This is X-Rated :)
The google translation in the bottom of the music-video is totally WTF (pun intended). I think sometimes google is very bad at translating lyrics correctly.
BTW Gainsbourg died in 1991 at the age of 62, the very same as Freddy Mercury (45yo), Vince Taylor (52yo), Mort Schumann (and American singer who made a carrer in France which deserve your attention), Miles Davis (65yo), Stan Getz (64yo), as well as Yves Montant (70yo -- a french actor/singer/seducer), Michael London (54yo, famous actor in France for "Little House on the Prairie' TV-series). This was a bad year for many artists you died relatively young.
I mailed Dereck for my services since I am a professional translator, but no answer so far…
Sounds like a song by Hannibal Lecter...
Gainsbourg made a movie with the same title. Starring Birkin and _for me_ the most beautiful man in the screen ever, Mr Joe D´Allessandro. You should watch it.
Yes the original version is good too (with Brigitte Bardot) Please Dereck, listen "Bonnie and Clyde" by Serge Gainsbourg and Brigitte Bardot !
That moaning made Jane Birkin so famous that they named the most expensive handbag after her. The legendary Birkin Bag.
No that is not the real story of the birkin bag. Jane was a fashion icone and in a plane next to the designer hermes she complained about not having a bag big enough for her and hermes drew this bag and gave the name Birkin that was a success
I really like when Dereck's about to come lol!
@Dereck Reacts
I recomend you a very short song of Gainsbourg called "Ballade of Melody Nelson" with his wife Jane Birkin. ^^
in the same category, you can listen 28° à l'ombre ( Monaco) - Jean François Maurice
I much prefer the version which is much more sensual with BB (Brigitte Bardot) and her sultry voice is more orgasmic.
I also recommend listening to Initials BB, a pure musical masterpiece.
so much great songs to discover with s gainsbourg , initial BB and requiem pour un con , la javanaise ...
For me the best of Gainsbourg's songs is "Quoi".
As I already said, Serge Gainsbourg is an absolute genuis. If you want something really naughty, try "love on the beat" but his work goes from sweet poetic songs to political statements, erotic and pornographic lyrics and so many many beautiful songs... An amazing poet, musician... One of the best french artists
You want naughty? Using 17yo France Gall for Les sucettes, THAT was naughty ...
th-cam.com/video/q-iysdFu_TQ/w-d-xo.html
Have you heard the version with Brigitte Bardot? I like it even more, especially Bigitte´s part and the intense sound of the strings. Beautiful.
I am convinced that this song was where Donna Summer got the Idea for Love to Love you Baby! She was in Germany in musicals and doing backing vocals when "she came up with the idea for a song called Love to Love you", with LOTS of moaning......
Jane Birkin left us today. But her voice and her smile will remain forever...
L'hôtel particulier is a great one with smooth bass and drums
One of his best song !
it is a hymn to motivation in case of technical failure ;)
Gainsbourg was fantastic with rythm too, you should try next "Requiem pour un con", very catchy, insane drums, the lyrics are full of untranslatable word games but you'll love the music! ;) Or "Initials BB" and "Bonnie and Clyde"!
@Dereck Reacts : Madonna sung this song at the Olympia in Paris when doing a showcase during her MDNA tour.
The legend says millions of babys were concieved on this song in Europe 🥰🥰🥰
Kylie Minogue has made a cover of this song mash up with Breath in her Body Language tour in 2003
I recommend you to discover the first version with Brigitte Bardot, the story behind the song AND how they recorded it! Birkin is a little girl compared to Bardot.
As a young man, Gainsbourg was very shy and reserved. That changed a lot with old age. He made a lot of money with this deliberately provocative song.
You're funny, you look a bit under shock while discovering the lyrics :D
Bars and clubs in Paris was forbidden to plats it before 23.00...so there was a Long Line 22.58...
The original version sang with Brigitte Bardot is more famous and more sensual 2 years earlier
Is a video with Brigitte Bardot available , in Internet ?
He outdone himself with "Love on the beat".
Hey Derreck ! You should have a look at "poupée de cire, poupée de son" sung by France Gall, written by Mr Gainsbourg. (It won the Eurovision !!!)
Must have been a very controversial and intense song when it came out. Oh La France, je t'aime!
Love this! I think the English translation leaves much to be desired in spots 😄
