No reactors ever understand what happens when Ripley is surprised by the alien in the corridor and then she runs back to the auto destruct controls, yet it's so simple. The alien has blocked the passageway leading into the shuttle. Ripley drops Jonesy (in the director's cut) and rushes back to the controls to try and stop the auto destruct, since she cannot get into the shuttle. She's trying to buy more time to work something else out. When MUTHR won't allow her to stop the destruction (since she's too late), Ripley has no choice but to go back to the shuttle entry passageway and see if she can get in. By that point, the alien is of course gone because it's now hiding in the shuttle and the way is clear.
She drops Jonesy in the theatrical as well. Also the ‘directors cut’ isn’t technically the directors cut as Ridley always said the original theatrical cut was his chosen cut.
They often question why they are investigating the source of the signal, and ask, why don't they leave. When it's explicitly explained in the previous scene, why they have to investigate systemized transmissions, or penalties.
That's it exactly. It's a tatty old rusty merchant vessel delivering boring mining materials on a long tedious journey. These are working stiffs with no military training. While I love "Aliens" for the excitement and action, it doesn't have the horror, the tension, the claustrophobia, or the "fly on the wall" feel of Ridley Scott's - in my view - masterpiece for the time.
@16:27 "This some bullshit!" best response ever!! this had me DYING! Its hard to find people who don't know the reality of how the alien gestates. This is one of THE most iconic horror scenes of ALL time. I mean epic! It's also parodied in "Space Balls" btw.
Why is Ripley an idiot? In what way is she incompetent? Also: the Company is requiring workers who are essentially TRUCK DRIVERS to perform potentially dangerous research and rescue missions or risk losing an entire mission's worth of pay. It would be like Amazon-- already one of Earth's shittier employers-- demanding that their drivers act as EMTs, hostage negotiators, or firefighters while out on delivery runs.
The giant dead alien pilot was originally supposed to be just a narrative to drive the mystifying nature of the circumstance...the fear of the unknown. Apparently there are comics that depict it as very advanced ancient species called as the Mala'kak. Their advanced organic mastery merges almost everything into bio technological symbiosis, both themselves & their machines. The ship itself is biomechanical in nature & was at one point "alive" when it functioned. It probably was an expedition ship picking up samples for study & came across the Xeno eggs...but things went wrong & affected the ship. Thats how they crashed landed.
One amazing Alien film. Ripley is such a boss. In the 70s great films like Star Wars and Alien catapulted Sci-Fi and we kids were loving it. Great WTF moment, lmao. Fun fact: when we first see the alien pop out of Kane's chest at breakfast...the cast's reaction was real. They didnt know it was going to happen. The script only described it as..."the thing emerges". Hahaha, that was great. Im good with whatever is easiest to edit. I know it can be rough trying to get vids together specially starting out on here, plus YT rules, but the longer ur on and grow a bit easier it gets, I hear. No way I could do it, so kudos to u creators. Thanx so much, till next time take care, Peace
Jones, also referred as Jonesy, was a cat kept aboard the USCSS Nostromo as Ellen Ripley's pet. While the cat's official purpose was to control rodents aboard the ship, he also served as a source of relaxation and entertainment for the crew like a theory animal. So, this was the reason why a cat was brought into outer space.
'Fraid not. It's a coolant system, like a big ol' radiator for the engines. Water condenses on the cooling pipes and drips down. Ever seen water drip from a car's air conditioner?
@@commandosolo1266 that might add more moisture but one thing we know for certain is the landing gear was inside a moist air environment, then was plunged into subzero temperatures and then raised again. And warmed up. The shape of the gear is not perfectly smooth. Trapped ice would have created pockets of water that would be dripping from the landing gear. It's not rain.
@@Concreteowl , what exactly is the point of all that decontamination in the airlocks if they're just gonna bring alien ice into the interior of the ship and Brett's gonna drink it and let it drip all over him?
The self destruct mechanism turns off the coolant to the nuclear reactor on the ship. So the moment its activated the reactor will attempt to slow down the reaction enough for the crew to escape.
I rewatch this at least once a year. Aliens too. This is another timeless film. The atmosphere is mesmerizing. Bilbo is Ash! Also hey! I recommend watching Event Horizon. Scifi horror. So fun And while we're at it, have you seen The Thing? 💕
It's difficult to classify what is a "proper" alien movie. There's 4 Ripley films. While the 3rd and fourth aren't as good as the first 2, They're not bad movies either, just very different in feel. and the 3rd has some really janky cg in a couple of places, but had some interesting stuff going on. The Alien v predator series are cheesy, but also very watchable...just not very nuanced. Ridley Scott then made Prometheus, to give back story to this film you've just watched...it's also interesting. The follow up Alien Covenant was more of a mess, that feels like Ridley shouldn't have revisited the franchise. Agan still watchable, with some cool moments, but nowhere near as thematically polished as Alien and falls into the cheesy side by the end. Cheers for the reaction, feeling you on getting annoyed with characters doing dumb stuff lmao. It'll be worth going through the filmography of the 4 directors who did the Ripley series of Alien movies, as they've made some epically cool movies, though the fourth films director is much less well known, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, they did a really quirky and weird post apocalyptic movie - Delicatessen, which is darkly funny with unusual cinematography and set designs. They followed up with The City of Lost Children which again is darkly surreal fantasy scifi with some very unique stylistic choices and design. Looking forward to seeing your channel grow, I enjoyed this reaction
Personally I’d only consider Alien, Aliens and (possibly) Alien 3 extended edition as “proper” alien movies. The rest range from ‘meh’ to awful in my opinion. Even then I view Alien as having its own independent continuity as I don’t like several of the changes Aliens makes. So for me personally, continuity 1: just Alien Continuity 2: Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 extended. The rest I don’t care about tbh
Yes, thank you for the appreciation for Jeunet and Alien: Resurrection! So many people say it’s a bad movie but it’s not, it’s just very different from what a lot of people want/expect from an Alien film. But if you watch Jeunet’s other work, it fits in very closely with his style and the kind of slightly avante-garde, metaphor heavy sci-fi that he tends to do. It’s not a perfect movie by any means, but it is a good one in my opinion, and it annoys me so much to see people shit on it just because it wasn’t what they expected.
Hi KP. I discovered you through watching LOTR reactions and I just want to compliment you on both your passion for movies but also your appreciation for the actual art and technical aspect of film making. You do an incredible job of both getting emotionally invested in the stories and characters (loved how mad you were at home dumb the crew was 🤣) but also taking the time to appreciate the set and prop design, whilst taking into account the age of the film. You're now my favourite reactor, keep up the phenomenal work :) Also a recommendation, if you've never seen "Inside Man" with Denzel I'd love you watch it.
If you're getting into Ridley Scott Films, I would recommend Blade Runner, & Legend with Tom Cruise & Tim Curry. I give the Actors names because there is more than one movie titled Legend.
'Don't touch it! Don't touch it!'~ There are several reasons for him saying that. Mainly, the company wants the lifeform for research purposes to make more money. But secondary, ACID FOR BLOOD. At this point they are in space. Stabbing the little alien would be no guarantee that the crew would have survived should the acidic blood eat through to empty space outside.
Boom! That was great. If you're a space nerd, please, please react to "Interstellar," or "Nope" (if you haven't already). Would love to hear your thoughts on those. Cheers! 🤓🇬🇧
Great reaction, as others have said I would suggest watching the special edition of Aliens. In terms of why Ash said "don't touch it" some people think it's because of the Acid blood, it could do some serious damage to the ship and the crew. That was another excellent decision. The crew as basically miners/truckers which is why they are not used to this sort of thing.
In the scene where Brett is searching for Monday, I say the water that dripping is from the condensation from cooling the ore processers. Some have claimed it was ice that formed on the Nostril when it was down on the planet, because you can see a strut of the ship in the background. I listened carefully to Ashes report of the atmospherics on the planet and he said hydrogen, carbon dioxide and nitrogen. But all three outgas from frozen and never reach their required temperatures for liquidity. Also Brett bathes his face in what must be portable distilled water from condensation. So if ice from the planet is the source the source of the ice must be accounted for. From what I see the Nostomo being docked next to the ore processors is coincidental. I hope you meant it when you said you love space.
Alien & Aliens will stand up forever. No matter how often they are watched they are entertaining, they are about the best SiFi movies ever made. I actually prefer the theatrical release versions. The first is a thriller, the second more action.
I love how the reactors (often), are all willing to work for years, in dark, dangerous conditions, and then throw it all away for nothing. When they get back, didn't investigate the signal, as obliged to do. So know money, for all that work, board of inquiry, loss of license, no job, and no prospect of getting a job. I also like how the reactors (often), are really really the bravest people you'd ever meet. With an injured crew mate, stuck outside on a freezing dark planet, with him possibly dying, they wouldn't be running on adrenalin, wouldn't be scared and frightened, they'd be cool, like ice. These aren't soldiers, these are truckers in space, working bods.
Very late to the party comment, but I think you’re being a little to hard on the characters for their decision to follow orders and land on the planet. We know this is a horror movie but they don’t. Their job is to crew this ship for who knows how many months. Forfeiting their pay because they don’t want to follow the contract they signed? Sure if I knew I’d encounter the alien I wouldn’t care about the money, but in their shoes I’d only have reason to believe it was an inconvenient pit stop.
Though there were no home computers in 1979.. even back then the computers in the movie were meant to look like old left over cheap hardware (Directors comments).
This is my favorite movie series. I saw this in 1979 in theatres when it came out as a teenager. it scared the hell out of everyone. Thes set is completely real design on sound stage in UK. I think it was recently dismantled, a same. Wee these guys are basically just advanced truck drivers, not scientists. Thats why their poor decisions, lack common sense. Brett is in the landing gear room thats why theirs water dripping. In the blue ray version u can see the alien hanging above on the chains this one u cant. I love your jump scare reactions!! Well ithe alien didnt kill Dallas and Brett put cocooned them on the wall, so Ripley flamed them, Ripley went to stop the auto destruction but wasn't in time. So she just made it to the escape shuttle. Yeah they kinda did the nuclear explosions of the ship. Remember Ash said the alien was the ""Perfect organism, as hostile as it was intelligent"". Was Ash was a robot and the ""Company""" had prior knowleadge of the aliens being on the LV Planet system. There are alot of other movies in the series. I will tell you to go and watch the pre-quel to the movie which is PROMETHEUS, then watch the sequel to this film ALIENS. I often wonder what would have happened to the movie and series if he did not?? OK LOOKING forward to you rnext reaction
My father saw this movie when it first came out 1979. During the chest bursting scene a black male stood up behind my dad and yelled out, "Son of a Bitch!" while pointing at the screen.
Please check out Alien 2.....another banger James Cameron film. And yes, this film aged spectacularly. I recently got to take my son to a special screening! Big screen, baby! Big screen! He was enchanted.
*"He lacked so much emotion, and... common sense. He was just too logic ... common sense and logic are a bit mmm.. "* Logic: A system for going wrong, with confidence.
Don't forget to watch the "special edition/ extented cut" for its sequel "ALIENS" wich is even better than the first one and probably the best one of the franchise. And is as scary and stressful than the first one ;)
I mean the ship is HUGE. I doubt them smoking will do anything. They have ventilation systems also. And idk what would be wrong with the cat being there.. haha
Hey, great reaction. If you ever watch Ridley Scott’s other classic Sci-Film ‘Blade Runner’ make sure to watch the Final Cut version. It makes a massive difference, the original Blade Runner kinda sucks and the directors cut (Final Cut) is what he wanted it to be and is miles better.
You absolutely need to watch Aliens, and an extended cut is best for Aliens. You are a bit harsh on the crew, but that's part of the charm of a first time watch! The Company really shafted the crew, Ash, an emotionless voice of their malicious intent. Aliens is the overall favorite for most fans of the series, Alien 3 is controversial but it definitely has its moments, Alien 4 is the shark-jumpiest to take the least serious. Promethius and Alien: Covenant feel more adjacent, but if you become an avid fan it's worth looking into. AVP has some things I love but is held back by a pg-13 rating and poor cinematography choices, and the sequel AVPR is probably my least favorite of all Alien properties including the Colonial Marines game. I will say the Predator franchise is also a blast! If you like PVE games, Aliens Fireteam Elite is a lot of fun, but Alien Isolation is the best Alien game of all time, it really captures the tension and spirit of this movie as well as great aesthetics.
This isnt' just Sigourney Weaver - this MADE Sigourney Weaver. Best female heroine ever in movies IMO. Ripley for the win. I dont' think all the criticism is fair - yes they made poor decisions - but total verisimilitude. These characters are not super heroes; they're not mean to be courageous explorers. They everyday blue collar workers essentially cargo ship sailors or space truckers. What drives the story is the fact that they were in such a terrible situation, with no real weapons, no combat training, and locked in giant cell with a perfect killing machine. Still at least (other than the fucked up robot) they didn't turn on each other like so many do in other ventures of the horror genre (Walking Dead anyone???)
Yeah, see the difference between them and me I'll pass up my paycheck I'll go get a new job I'm not putting my life at risk for exploring and unknown world and secondly as soon as I saw that face hugger on that guy's face, I would have been gone I would have stolen the shuttle and left with a cat. Prometheus is the prequel too Alien Convent and then I believe it tries into Alien. And so on and so on. Predator and Aliens is supposed to be the very first it's complicated timeline. but they do have a movie together. It's called AVP Alien vs Predator.
You MUST watch ALIENS now! It’s the 2nd in the series and it makes the first one look like an amateur made it! (Not really but it IS MUCH better than the first)
Huh huh I came wanting to support you and this vid. But it seems I don't like this flick any more than I did, years ago. 🤣 I'm great with sci-fi if it's within another genre. Like, fantasy, etc. But just straight sci-fi isn't my thing. But wanted to watch long enough to up your views. 👍
I can't sit for a half hour, squinting and straining; trying to follow the film through an overlay. Others are able to present the video without all that bs. Why can't you? Very unsatisfying. And I won't stick around for it. Do better next time.
Because it gets demonetised. If you want to watch the film then you should watch it properly, not through reaction videos. The content here is his reaction
As always thanks for the support guys and let me know your thoughts on this editing style as opposed to the previous. Looking to finalize one that's the most versatile and sticking to it

Ian Holm who played Ash in Alien also played Bilbo Baggins in LotR 20 years later.
And John Hurt who played Kane in this film played Mr. Ollivander in the Harry Potter series.
My favorite role of Holm’s was Sam Mussabini in Chariots of Fire.

20:35 Dry them shits up, I dont wanna hear that - lmfaooooooooooooo
*"He lacked so much emotion, and... common sense. He was just too logic ... common sense and logic are a bit mmm.. "*
Logic: A system for going wrong, with confidence.
Don't forget to watch the "special edition/ extented cut" for its sequel "ALIENS" wich is even better than the first one and probably the best one of the franchise. And is as scary and stressful than the first one ;)
I strongly disagree that it’s better than the first one (or as scary). Aliens is great but Alien is much better in my opinion.
I mean the ship is HUGE. I doubt them smoking will do anything. They have ventilation systems also. And idk what would be wrong with the cat being there.. haha
If you think the Nostromo crew are idiots wait until you see Prometheus 😁
If you like space travel movies you should definitely react to "interstellar" my favorite sci-fi movie ✌️
You need to watch the 2nd one aliens.it's a classic 2 ✌🏼
dude, you said you're tired of the creature? bad news, the creature is supposed to make a comeback in the next movie coming out Alien Romulus.
(Not really but it IS MUCH better than the first)
When are you going to do “Aliens”?
Can you react to watching Hocus Pocus Halloween classic?
Why can't we see the movie?
Jonesy! Auto correct again.
Still appreciate the support as always 😂
It's sci fi horror...what are you on about lol
Stop after the sequel bro. Good stuff.
Watch Aliens, you don't need to watch any of the others.
'diapers'?????
Mate, calm down with the trying sound American - its shameful.
That looks really bad. You can't really know what's it is about. The movie looks terrible.
