I agree, but if I could be honest, I hope there is a future with both. I would like us to be able to subtarget anything on the exterior, i.e. weapons, engines, wings, etc., but all of the components should only be targetable if scanned. I feel like the ease of use will increase as scanning gameplay comes in. Once ships are allowed to share scanned data with party members, it would be much more interesting to have a dedicated scanning ship be able to send high quality scans for better targeting information. I mean, why else does the Hornet Tracker even exist if not as a "command and control ship" style ship. I just hope those roles are expanded rather than simply removed for "ease of use."
Noice Good video. Also for those using missiles boats and such. You have a good chance of shutting shields off completely if you sub target Shield Gens.
I was always curious to know if it actually worked for missiles that's really good I'm glad they expanded upon that. That would be a good way to start the boarding process
I had my Cutlass Black engines picked off like Lego by an Ion using sub targeting. Until I learned about Sub targeting the Cutlass was my favourite daily. I stay away from it or anything like it now. lol. o7 🚀
its even worse with ships that have the engines blocked to the rear. At that point the bullets are hitting your engines AND the body, at least with the Cutlass, your whole ship won't also get damaged in the process, and you might have time to jump out the side or something.

Made a spectrum post on sub-targeting recently, for sub-targeting bigger ships like the hammerhead and whatnot, RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR shield generator. I would like to see it have an easier way of targeting a sole component with one keystroke instead of all the guns and thrusters first.
Hey maybe dumb question, but now do I get into Precision Targeting mode? I have a keybind for it but then I press it nothing happens- even if I have a target locked. What's the correct keybind?
@@BuzzCutPsycho pips don't appear in the hud. Have to destroy and reclaim ship for a 50% chance that they appear for that flight. Confirmed bug, no idea when fixed. 4.x? :)

How do you aim with precision mode? I seem to lose the little dot to line up with and have no idea how to actually hit the target
It is a bit dodgy but so long as your cross hair is over the highlighted sub target it should track to it.
If CIG ever fixes my ship so I have visible pips again, this will be pretty helpful
