I never use the outdoor keyboard to close the garage door. I always use the inside wall controller to close it! Also the Chamberlain wall control looks cheap and doesn't have a vacation lockout feature, which is important.
There is a difference in warranty times and the accessories on the Chamberlain, depending on what model you buy. I have an older Chamberlain that came wit a much nicer indoor keypad with a digital display that shows temp. time and the ability to change a lot of other features of the opener. One thing I like about the Chamberlain is the auto close in case you drive off and forget to close it. I have had Genie openers since 1980 with very good luck, but I don't remember why I switched to Chamberlain. I still have the first Ryobi opener that was made and it is a much stronger built opener then Chamberlain or Genie. Some day I will have to replace it with a Chamberlain when it quits, since they don't make them anymore after getting sued by Chamberlain.
Aside from the Genie at my house, I also have a Liftmaster with a motion detector in the wall control that turns on the light when you walk in. Very nice feature.
Thanks for this awesome video! My liftmaster in my town home just died. It was from 06/2000! 24 years ago I think I’m going with the genie just for the automation! Thanks again. Liked and subscribed.
I have a Chamberlain and even though I am a heavy Home Assistant user, I don't really care that there is no integration. The one feature that I like is an auto door closure after 5 minutes. Yes, it can be annoying sometimes to have it close on you when you don't want it to (you can manually place a hold to prevent closure) but I'd much prefer having it closed than left open for long periods of time. And yes, the one button closure on the keypad is nice but I just assumed that was standard.
Nice video. Informative, for sure. I have a heavy wooden door on a two car garage. Which Genie model would be powerful enough to lift the door. A 1/2 HP is not going to be enough. The door currently has two springs that help, but it is still heavy. The original door opener is a 1984 vintage that is on its last leg. I have not been able to determine the brand or HP of the original opener. It is light green in color. Thank you for any recommendation for my specific need.
I had chamberlain in my old house and made the mistake of getting two for our new house. Pro's they look nicer, and the wall control has great features like a close timer, clock and temperature. I purchased them before they decided to charge for automation and was pretty upset about the change. Thankfully I can still use Google assistant to close the door, but I can no longer open it unless I use the app. A big con for me is the constant advertisements they added to the app and they remove the ability to have one door per screen. If I could use my existing wall control with genie, I would totally buy two new openers. I like that infinity shield but what I did was mount the existing sensor at bumper level. If I back in or pull in I can see the green LED stop blinking when the sensor is clear.
I doubt the wall controls are compatible, but I never tried. Before I found Infinity Shield, I also put the sensors at bumper height. Trouble is, if a child or animal gets hurt, I’d be liable because I intentionally chose to do a non-standard installation.
So I see this online some with torsion spring some like your without? I have a single door with spring and I need to replace the door and want to replace the opener as well. can I get a new door and use this opener directly mounted to the wall like you did without the spring and shaft?
@midwestoutdoorsman Ok I wasn’t sure because you mentioned mounting the opener to the wall. So if you’re talking about this video where I installed the Chamberlain at my daughter’s house, her garage door has extension springs. The Genie was installed on my garage door that has a torsion spring. If I understand your question, you are saying you want to replace your current door (that has extension springs) with a new door that has a torsion spring. Is that right?
My Chamberlain B870 board just failed so none of remotes or keypad works. 5 yrs and 5 months out of warranty. Also Chamberlain has discontinued alot of models. Doesn't seem like any of the new models are durable anymore.
One is 1/2 and one is 1-1/4 HP… the Gennie 1/2 HP is much cheaper about $168… a 1 1/4 HP chamberlain is about $300. The Gennie is better value with more HP.
Chamberlain recently won a $43m judgement against the owners of Genie for infringing on their patented Internet connectivity system. So, IDK, but I'm not paying twice for security systems that I already own.
That is not comparing Apples to Apples. You are comparing a higher end Genie to a mid-level Chamberlain. Try comparing the Chamberlain B2215-T to Genie 2055 which are in the same class.
Personally, I couldn't care less about smart crap on my appliances. Just more parts to break and more ways for weirdos to hack into your life. I have four openers and I stick with basic chain-drive units. Just a button on the wall and that's it. No app, no keypad, no hassle.
The only difference I have seen was a one piece rail and the color, but just not worth the extra money when you include the price of installation, unless you can't do it yourself.
I have always been a Chamberlain guy, but I am now a converted Geinie guy. Thanks to you.
👍🏻
I never use the outdoor keyboard to close the garage door. I always use the inside wall controller to close it!

Thanks for the info
I alway use the outside keyboard when leaving for walks or when getting into a friends car
It would of been nice for you to compare the two for which one was quieter !
They’re both belt drive and similarly quiet.
Thanks you for the head up on which brand supported Home Assistant. I will go with the Genie model.
I prefer Genie.

@ of course. How has the genie held up? I have an up and over so want the extra power
@pksangavaram Both of these are still going strong.

The Genie app can also auto-close just like Chamberlain. The keypad is the only functional difference.
@@handydadtv it looks like the full door shield product is completely sold out. Must be a winner!
Noticed you don't have a spring installed. Did you not need one with this lift and size/weight of door?
The door already had springs.
Not sure about the Genie however, I like the auto-close after 10 minute feature the Chamberlain gives me. So if I forgot to close it....
They can both do that through their respective apps.

Get the best you can afford.

@@handydadtv I understand. I waited until my kids were grown enough to know better. I may still look into the infinity shield.
@cm.5023 I’ll be doing another video on Infinity Shield in September.
Genie’s out of the bottle, and so are my likes for this video!
Thanks 😊
nice one! 😎
Genie
👍🏻
Genie for me!. Thanks for the comparison.
My pleasure!
A professionally installed Lift Master actually will have MORE feature than just the consumer-level Chamberlain unit does.
Of course. And a price tag to match.
The genie one just sounds better as far as replacement parts and looks easier to install.
Thanks for the feedback!
I think you forgot the link for the Infinity Shield as i don't see it listed.
Whoops! Here is the video:

If you have Torsion Spring I like installing wall mount openers.
I agree. th-cam.com/video/3X9AU8CLcnU/w-d-xo.html
Great review and comparison. Thanks
Glad it was helpful 👍🏻
Hi, please, what do you recommend as the most extremely ultra silent quiet affordable opener, my landlord is kind of on the cheap side
This is the quietest but not cheap: th-cam.com/video/3X9AU8CLcnU/w-d-xo.html
Otherwise, choose any belt drive Genie.
@@handydadtv Got it, thank you 🙏🏻
Ironic. My 20 year old Chamberlain just died. I'm going with Genie. Thanks for the thoughtful insights.
Glad it was helpful 👍🏻
Hope to hear from you in another 20 years to see how you liked it. 👍🏻
How long did the installation take you? It looks like it took you an hour. Heck maybe less since you've done this several times.
It would take me around 3 hours if I didn’t need to move the camera.
@@handydadtv Oof even longer then? Wow. Thanks.
Very informative, thanks
Glad it was helpful 👍🏻
Outstanding video Sir!!!
Thanks so much 😊

@handydadtv no this video I commented on, there is not torsion spring correct?
@midwestoutdoorsman Ok I wasn’t sure because you mentioned mounting the opener to the wall.

I just got a genie sitting on the floor. Now I'm thinking on returning watching the keypad have to enter code to close door. That's a bummer
@1165slugman I guess it depends on how much you use the keypad. I use HomeLink so I rarely close it with the keypad.
@@handydadtv Guess there is a genie problem the push buttons on the covers are not pushing the microswitches on the board to set keypad or door.

A stiff penalty indeed.
I've never had a builder not include a garage opener.
It was an option from their builder.
Even if I didn't want to use it with home automation platforms, I would avoid it simply for screwing those people over
Good point.
Chamberlain's greedy BS with charging a subscription fee to open your garage door is enough to make me never buy any of their products.

Still using a corded phone too? 🤔
The Liftmaster openers are a step above their Chamberlain openers in build quality and features IMO.
Agree but they are professionally installed.

I use a chamberlain with Vera and Alexa.

I like the chamberlain better ..👍
Thanks
MyQ is garbage if you want to integrate with HA
