The worse that's happened was this women grabbed her childs hand and said no don't smile at that girl and glared at me. That hurts a lot especially because the children don't give a shit they're just being nice and it's only the parents who have a problem

when I was a teenager I was a metalhead and once when I was about 15 years old an old lady standing next to me on the bus stop looked at me, made a cross symbol and walked away. i don't know what she was trying to achieve, remove the demon inside me or something like that lol. listening to metal music doesn't make anyone satanist.

"You're not like everyone else! You must be a satanist!" My dad really thought I'd convert to satanism as i started wearing more black two years ago. I notice people staring at me in school, in public, just everywhere!! It annoys me pretty much because everyone says:"dont run with the crowd! Do your own thing!" But the point is that if you do your own thing, you're a weirdo! That hasnt got any sense at all! I'm glad nobody shouted at me until now, but I'm pretty sure that'll happen in the future! I mean non of us goths, punks, emos, alternatives etc would go to a mainstream person and shout at them..i hate it!

What pisses me off is when society talks about treating others with respect, don't judge a book by it's cover, be yourself and be and individual, but yet they contradict themselves by doing the exact opposite of what they preach, staring, shouting, judging and beating; all I have to say is society is full of shit, when they talk about something positive, because they don't follow it.

About a couple weeks ago I wore dark lipstick in public for the first time. I wore black jeans, black shirt and black boots and a dark purple jacket. And of course I had my dramtic smokey eye game on ;) But when I came into this motorcycle shop with my friend and her dad there were old men sitting down on the other side of the room. So one of the guys shout out at me saying "I thought Halloween was over?" I was like boy I'm about to get over there and slap your wrinkles off your face lol

I actually get a lot of compliments from older people and kids about my attire. I'm not sure why (the kids I thinks its the whole imagination of "meeting a witch or vampire") but other than that I'm not sure. The only people that insult me are teenagers and college age people. A good 90% is always about my skin tone (I am pale to the point where I'm practically transparent), the whole "get a tan" thing being shouted at me left and right. Very recently I had a girl, probably around 18-21, ( come up to me and said "You know you would look so pretty if you got a tan, guys would never date a pasty girl" and then left. I rolled my eyes after she said that but deep down I was quite applaud mainly because she was a stranger that walked up to me randomly and said that to me. I would never walked up to a stranger and tell them what they can and can't do with their body.

Have had the same thing happen to me in a nightclub with a girl stealing my drink out of my hand, i drink bloody marys, she asked if I could buy her a drink and i said no because you have a drink. She was like this is good what is it, i said blood and told her the club she was in was a safe haven for vampires, she ran out of the club screaming 😂

I mostly just get alot of stares in public, wich is fine i guess. I understand that people are curious, but the thing that really pisses me the fuck off is when people take pictures of me. Like i love it when people ASK to take pictures with/of me and alot of people actually say quite nice things about me, but the feeling of a whole fucking family staring at you, and then taking pictures of you without your permission just annoys me so much!

My grandma doesn't like the way I dress in fact she hates that I I'm involved with the goth style. I understand that being the fact she's a bit old fashioned she's not really gonna understand why someone would want to dress that way. She believes that goth is something of the devil but I tried to explain to her that goth has nothing to do with religion but she wouldn't listen although despite the fact she doesn't like the way I dress she is slowly becoming okay with it. I'm okay with her not liking my style because as long she doesn't give me crap about it then I'm fine with it. But I know that she will never like me getting tattoos
I told her that when I'm old enough I'm going to get one tattoo on my thigh and eventually get a full sleeve on both arms and when I told her this she said that women shouldn't get tattoos because it's only a man thing which kind of pissed me off to be honest then again despite what she says I'm still going to get my tattoos when I'm old enough of course

One early evening, at Walmart (I'm from 'MERICA!), I was making my way out of the men's clothing department. A woman who looked to be in her late twenties took one look at me, and said with absolutely no discretion whatsoever "JESUS CHRIST!!!!", as I attempted to pass her. Once I was completely past her, she then proceeded to laugh to herself with even less care than her first statement. I had the temptation to turn back and say something along the childish lines of "You called?", or "Leave a message, I'll make sure he gets it!", or even better "Never heard of the guy". I understand what it's like to get easily triggered over someone else's stupidity, Madame. \m/(-_-)\m/ To be fair though, that day was the first day that I started contouring my face with black eyeshadow, and I did (looking back) look at tad corpse-like.

Ha! I think it's coz goths are generally really smart (massive generalisation, I know, but have you noticed how we all seem to be incredibly articulate?), so that's why we always wanna retaliate with some witty observation. I do it all the time. I would've given her a disgusted look for the blasphemy and yelled 'Mind your language!' if it was an older woman. Always safer to take the highground!

I remember during my high school years, when I just barely started to dress darker and became the "different one" in the group around me( where I lived in Italy even only dressing all black or having colored hair was enought to get mean looks by some people)
one day waiting at the bus station there was this old lady who sat next to me and all out of a sudden started to talk with me about the "power of god", that darkness is deceptive and will lead me to hell and all that weird stuff...
I was a little annoyed, because all I wanted to do was just to go home, so at first I ignored her then at a certain point arrived a classmate and we started to talk about different scientific subjects
then again the old lady jumps at us with a more nervous tone as if we insulted her or something saying
"science is the art of the devil !"
I was about to ask her, if she believe so then why were she using a phone earlier ?
but at that point luckly for me the bus arrived and I finally went away from that weird old lady...
yeah, excpet a few others bad looks on me I guess this was the strangest situation I got in

And ofcourse people mumble shit under their breath because they're too much of a pissy to actually say anything to my face.

I get lots of creepy guys asking me if I'm a dominatrix. Just because I'm wearing a corset doesn't make me a Domme for hire! I understand why it happens if I'm wearing something that IS fetish-related; leather corsets, high boots, collar, lots of straps, etc. - but I still think it's rude to actually ASK, and I really don't understand it when I'm wearing Romantic Goth stuff and the corset is part of a far more frilly an anachronistic thing, not even vaguely fetishistic.
I also get guys who make creepy comments implying that Goth females are really 'dirty' and will let guys do any sort of weird thing to them, that we're easy to seduce, I get asked if I'm "one of those Suicide Girls' and questions about whether I dye my pubes green or have intimate piercings - what makes them think it's OK to ask a stranger that????

I actually live and work in Southampton and I work in West Quay ( it's really odd because I recognise you and I think you work in JL, your video just popped up on my recommended vids! Such a coincidence!) He's this old guy and he sometimes where's a zebra hat, he is constantly getting escorted out of west quay because he shouts and points his skull stick at people! Once he pretended to have a fit on the floor and loads of people were crowded around and worried and he just started shouting at everyone and laughing. He is mental! Once he came up to the window where I work and started blowing kissing and told me I would be his future wife...

This is the exact reason why im a bitch in public...I listen to my music, have my arms crossed, dont engage in conversations, dont look at people...becuase of dumbass people who like to shout, follow, and stare when they see someone who is different from them. I think it has more to do with fasinantion and/or fear and they cover it up asking dumb questions. All I say is, " Why do you care, dont you have your own life?" Normally they take it as me being "rude" and back off.

The most recent thing that has happened to me is some days ago, I was walking down the pavement at night (wearing lace gloves, boots, long black leather skirt, black eyeliner and lipstick) and I saw a couple in front of me, both boy and girl about 25. When they were walking next to me the boy suddenly stopped and came in front of me (he was tall and muscular btw) and he said "what the hell???." I turned around and continued walking. The girl was afraid and embarrassed, and she draw him next to her. But I mean, what was that all about? People are so weird...

I think every Goth has these moments when there is a group of people shouting at them just because every single one of them thinks the others would hate them if they don't. I, for example, heard things like "aren't you ashamed of looking like this" or even "not even god can help you". But I personally think it is really funny when somebody comes up to you and shouts "Goth!". Then I'm like "Uhm...yes." But most of the things I hear are positive, so...humanity isn't fucked as a whole. :)

I don’t even consider myself to be goth, even though there’s a lot of gothy stuff that I like and pretty much all I wear is black and purple, but there’s a security guard at this library who used to just lock his jaw and scowl at me like I was doing something bad even though I was always just quietly reading something or drawing or working on my Japanese homework. He doesn’t really do it much anymore, but I either inspire confidence or “poor fashion sense” wherever I go and it can be maddening.

Snowy made a video called "When Your Parents Dont Like How You Dress" a few months back. I think based on how she worded things, it seems like her parents aren't 100% keen on her style of dress. Ex: She talked about how parents might react when you come downstairs in a "weird" outfit and to try to remind them that it's okay to be wild with your style if you get good grades and are generally a well behaved kid. (Sorry for paraphrasing, it's been ages since I've watched the vid.) In my humble opinion, it seems like your parents have more issues than just the way you look. Their issues are within themselves and how they treat others. It seems like they are purposely saying hurtful things, regardless of how you dress. No one should be that uncivil to their own child.

yeah I do believe you are right. They are also very overprotective, believing anyone outside of real life, are people you cannot trust, even though i've known internet friends for well over 6+ years. And also they're also very restrictive when it comes to spending. being the people that would always spend the very least on anything. But refusing to throw out anything, including mine and my sister's clothes. -_-

" hahaha your a boy " because i was shopping in the dudes section, i hated girl cloths because they were to pink and purple. and when i went to school the next day everyone was calling me a dude all because i got one dude shirt. but jokes on him i hold grudge's and hes got a crush on me now. but i don't get why people will tell you to be yourself when you get bullied for being yourself and that took a big toll and me because now i'm to scared to show that i like dudes cloths better than girls so now i always wear a hoodie

Someone asked me if I was heading home to practice some voodoo and I said, "actually I'm heading home to practice witchcraft." And walked away. I find that often at the bar guys will approach me and ask something along the lines of "what's with all the makeup? Do you not feel pretty without it? You're wearing a bit much." Which is so rude? Are you hitting on me? Cuz if you are you're kind of a huge doichebag and I don't want to talk to you. You should learn how to compliment a woman. Also obviously when someone is dressed goth the point is to look over the top. I usually just say with a straight face, "I'm goth. The point is to look as much like a corpse as I can." and walk away.

As an alternative person myself, (and this also applies to non alternative people too) I just wanted to say: If you feel that someone is following you or is actively making you uncomfortable DO NOT JUST IGNORE THE PERSON. If you are with friends stay close to them and move somewhere else, if you are alone move to a crowded area or into a store. Just because being goth unfortunately goes hand in hand with receiving ignorant insults it does not mean that you or your safety should be compromised. Everyone deserves to feel safe and happy.

Most of the abuse I've had out in public have involved me just walking down a suburban street looking goth and the abuse is usually by young guys- throwing beer cans at me, yelling at me, swearing at me, beeping the horn at me- the worst is when they pulled over and ask me to get in or go for a ride all of this happened on separate occasions. Now I have a big scary black dog and nobody messes with me anymore.

It would have been my mum saying something if that happened to me lol. I have had some bizarre reactions too - usually mothers clutching their children closer, people giving me filthy looks for no reason, or talking about me as if I can't hear them. Then when they yell stuff it's normally totally inaccurate like "EMO!!!!" or unoriginal, like "whose funeral are you going to?". But luckily there are also the nice people who think I look awesome and compliment me on my boots or my hair which I always appreciate :) x

I get abuse from the public constantly, I live in a bit of a rough area so it can't really be avoided unless I don't go out. I'm nearly 21 and I feel like such a loser when I allow younger girls to take the piss out of me... I hardly ever react because I'm a very shy/nervous person. It's such a shame because I'm actually really nice.

I know the feeling. In the middle of looking to buy a place with my other half and I'm adamant to move to south bristol where the goth music scene is. As a possibility my other half suggested that I consider Swindon a while back; as it was closer to all the national trust places I like (Avebury etc). Did some research to find that the goth/alternative scene is like non existent there. I found a facebook page/group for the steampunk community which aren't very active and that's about it. At least I know if we stick to south bristol instead of the north where he is now there will be loads on industrial bands playing at the fleece close by and Republic next to the O2 Arena. So I would be sorted. Went to the local Ten pin in Swindon and it was the most downtrodden battered in place I had ever seen. Like I thought Plymouth (my hometown) was the land of the chavs and broken things but apparently it can get much worse

I've encountered the same elderly man in a wheelchair twice. In both incidents he told me to smile or I look like I'm up to no good. I think he was sort of paranoid about me and the way I look. I also didn't say anything but the second time when I walked away from earshot, I muttered "Mind your own business!".
