I obtained a used msd atomic EFI throttle body for my 74 about 4 years ago and have had nothing but problems with it since I installed it thank you for the time and research and. Sharing a better option with all.of us
I was able to get my ECU in the car with me, used a 1.5" grommet and you can lay the plugs flat to get them both into the grommet through the firewall. Thanks for the update!
Run mine now for a year and it is an awesome system!!!!! One warning though!! Buy a really good fuel regulator for at least $200 or more!! I bought a cheaper $100 unit and broke after a year and heard several had same issue. Most cheap ones are just a big "chunk" of billet aluminum with really poor internal material.
I am not 100% sure, so you can eat me if I wrong, but with return style fuel supply you should have regulator conected into the system after the fuel rails so regulator is obtaining pressure in supply line and flowing back in return line. The vacum port is to open membrane more at idle and cruise and lower (or adjust) the pressure at idle and cruise, at WOT you dont have vacuum. You also want to set the pressure on the regulator with vacuum disconnected and pluged at engine side. The two options of pressure in the app settings are max pressures - at wot you pressure wont be higher.
Hey John, if you begin to have any fuel pressure issues I noticed that you mentioned you ran from tank to the regulator then to the rail for the supply to the throttle body. Unless something has changed (which is I presume possible) the routing is typically ran directly from the tank to fuel rail and then to regulator and then back to tank. This insures a constant fuel pressure at the throttle body rather than pre-regulating the pressure before the throttle body which can lead to fluctuations in fuel pressure at the throttle body. Maybe it's changed though or you've figure out a better way. Either way I always truly appreciate your videos and thanks for offering to help on my MSD Atomic EFI. Many Blessings from Thompson's Station TN GT
I’ve always thought it was the way he did it in the video which is how I’m running it?? I’m confused now since my car seems to not have the power that it should I’m running a 450hp sbc and I can’t even smoke tires
I just bought a Edelbrock pro flo 4 To go on my 70 Bronco with a 302. Just wondering if you had any clearance problems with your air cleaner. If so what did you due.
Can you compare it to the Holley Sniper? Im going with the Efelbrock after watching your videos, but do you have any idea how it compares to the sniper, before I pull the trigger on it? Thank you; Donn
I'm considering going with an MSD coil near plug ignition. The system allows many configurations for timing control of your launch from rev limiters to rpm controlled timing and time controlled timing for wheel spin control at launch. I can set it up for timing retard of 10* at about 1 second from launch hold timing there till around 2 seconds and then ramp timing back in to all in timing at around 3.5 seconds from launch... I would also like to run the pro flow 4 EFI. Does the software for the pro flow4 have this kind of feature? I wonder if the two systems will function together...I would think they would since they both fire sequentially...???
Where did you install the pink wire to labeled “ignition Switch” I have a 69 mustang so not sure if similar, just trying to get an idea. Any help is appreciated. Thanks !
were you having fuel pressure issues?...i ran my fuel line from the tank to a "y" fitting then thru both fuel rails to my regulator then from my regulator back to my fuel tank.
I am impressed with your videos. You indicated that you had to install a fuel regulator. Was there something wrong with the EFI fuel pump or is the regular is just require or part of the Pro4. Doesn’t the fuel pump provide the required psi to operate? Thank you
I didn’t buy the fuel pump that Edlebrock recommends. It was a fuel pump I had from my previous EFI. So I wanted to make sure I had the correct PSI running to the fuel rails.
What did you connect the pink wire to? What did you use for your coil mount? I just finished the install on my '72 Early Bronco and am struggling with where to mount my coil.
mine gave me problems right from the first time trying to start it. would not idle and once i got it running had to keep it at 3000 rpm to keep it going. then it mysteriously started running like it should. ive put maybe 75 miles on it, now it's back to wont run unless kept at 3000 rpm. sent the ecu to edelbrock got it back still the same. going to put the carb back on to prove to edelbrock it's not the engine. ( which is fresh rebuild and running perfect before the pf4 was installed) im going to put it on a test stand to make it easier to figure out where the problem is. bottom line i should have kept the carb and spent the $2000 else where plus all the time wasted trying to get through to tech and trying find the problem. for the record, if i find its my fault i will post and admit faults
I tried to move the edlebrock supplied fuel rail line from the firewall side to the core support side and ran into an issue with the due line not being long enough due to distributor…did you make a new line or buy a longer one?
Are you using a deadhead or a bypass fuel pressure regulator? I think that with a returnless fuel system EFI you must run a deadhead fuel pressure regulator between the fuel pump output and the fuel injector rails inlet; and with a return fuel system EFI ( as yours), you must run a bypass fuel pressure regulator between the fuel injector rails outlet and the fuel tank return inlet. By the way, in most bypass fuel pressure regulators, the regulator outlet to the return line is the bottom one.
Question-I purchased this and haven’t installed…I just bought some headers…curious where you installed the 02 bung…pass or drivers side for this system layout
Why does the fuel regulator need vacuum? I installed the proflo 4 xt multiport on my sbc and it feels kind of sluggish car just isn’t getting the power it should and I don’t where to turn for advice any ideas?
The vacuum helps tell the fuel pressure regulator where the throttle is. For example at wide open throttle, without the vacuum, the fuel pressure regulator won’t know to increase the fuel pressure.
Thanks for the up date, looks nice. Only question i have is the vacuum hose you have running to your fuel regulator has a t in it, what does the other part of the t go to.
I'm not sure, but the vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator, I think it also goes to a MAP sensor. It seems like the vacuum line to the brake booster is the one that split to the automatic transmission modulator.
Well I saw 2 diffrent t fitting i think you said the bigger t fitting went to the transmission and brake booster and transmission. The smaller one went to regulator and not sure. It looks like the vacuum hose out the front of the intake went to the lifter cover.
Hi John. Thanks for posting annother great video. I installed a pro flow 4 a couple of months ago in my 74 Bronco with help from your videos. Did you input/adjust anything in your advanced tuning menu? Or, are you satisfied enough with the self learning that it doesnt seem necessary to adjust advanced tuning parameters?
You totally can, but the connectors are so big it would require either cutting the firewall to make a larger opening, or cutting the wires and splicing them back together. I chose the easy route of mounting it in the engine bay
Have the PF4 on my 360 Ramcharger 4x4, Eddy heads, mild cam etc. The PF4 intake is a Victor Jr, it's power range is 3500 to 7000+. Idle to 3000 is pretty soft, certainly softer than my previous setup. Had an Eddy Performer RPM fed by the 34 year old factory 2bbl TBI with a stock tune. The PF4 is soggier at low rpm. Edelbrock tech guy tried to tell me that runner size and length has no effect on torque with EFI, which of course is complete bullshit. I also find the tuning options and data availability a bit limited. Sometimes they make things too simple.
@@NashvilleEarlyBronco Do you know what size you used? If you don't mind - it should be there in your past orders - am doing the same install and love the look of that wire loom!
I had a lot of trouble routing the braided fuel rail hose behind the distributor. I have mine on the 351w so my distributor sits lower. I have to contact edelbrock and see if I can use a longer hose.
If you would have changed your inline fuel pump to the Edelbrock one wouldn't that of solved your fuel pressure issue? I have the Edelbrock 3606 Fuel Injection System version one system on my 1969 Bronco. It came with a sump pump that regulates the fuel pressure which made it a very clean install. I know they had an inline kit I could buy instead of the sump pump but I already ran my fuel lines and like having access to it in my engine compartment.

Oh man! I have family up there. Yikes! Get out in the garage
Just received my PF4 the other day, can't wait to get it installed.
OMG!!! I'm about to get rid of my Fitech pump too!!! I love the pro flo 4!!!
Thanks for posting the update. Still gonna keep mine old school for now but you never know!

What was the problem with FiTEch pump? Is there not a built 9n regulator on Edelbrock system?
They just run differently. Edelbrock controls the pump from a ground switch, FiTech controls from the power side. Plus the FiTech runs more amps.
What did you use for the throttle cable? Did you change the pedal assembly?
what is the fuel psi you are running now vs with the FiTech?

I tried to move the edlebrock supplied fuel rail line from the firewall side to the core support side and ran into an issue with the due line not being long enough due to distributor…did you make a new line or buy a longer one?
No, I used the same one, it was a tight fit and you have to get it to bend the other way
Thanks! Did you stick with deadhead setup? Still running good that way.
My 302 engine in my bronco has started popping in the exhaust. Did you run into this with the pro flo 4.
Sounds like a timing issue

Basic question but did you use as your 12v source for the pink and grey ignition wire?
you show that it has a air temperature sensor in the air cleaner. Does it also have a mass air flow? I would say it must have. Where is it located?
Yes it does. I forget where
hows it holding up? plan on putting this on a bone stock 5.3 in an s10 as a daily driver
