I grew up on a cattle and grain farm, so carry as a kid was pretty simple. The things I constantly carried were a pair of pliers in a pouch on my belt, a Sabre Ireland granddaddy barlow knife, and a bandana. Also had a wallet and a Timex wristwatch, but I only carried those to school or when we went to town. Found out years later that the wristwatch was actually the field watch that my grandpa had worn in WW2, so I put it away for sentimental reasons. Happy New Year, my friend!

Wow, this brought back some memories. I was born in 1970 in Michigan and I remember most of the boys I grew up with carried various pocket knives, lighters and whatever else ended up in our pockets. There was no uniformity to our edc back then, short of there always being a knife. One of my favorite memories is when I was around 8 or 9 a male teacher was trying to open some art supplies, he looked around and asked if I had a knife on me. I handed him my prized cub scout knife, a Camilus if my memory is correct. It struck me that if that exchange happened today there would be an uproar of epic proportions lol.

Very nice that you have all of these items. I was not so fortunate to own & carry a knife until I was 13. Oh, I was around many knives that my grandfather owned, and sometimes I would "borrow" a knife if there was going to be a neighborhood brawl (no I do not condone violence but in the early 80's it was very common to give ass kickings and receive ass kickings) and no the knife was never brandished during these brawls, I think I had a little "prepping" mentality in my head back then to just be prepared. My first knife was a Gerber Frisco Shiv drop point fixed blade. I found that model again on eBay. It had seen plenty of sharpening, but still cuts. It's a knife I would never bat an eye for today, but I find it amazing how our tastes change for what we carry. Thanks for shaing.

I carried a Cub Scout knife that my dad bought me when I was 8. It went everywhere with me. You could carry a pocket knife at school back then. You can’t carry a knife in school today. My favorite pen was also a Parker. I still have two of them today. It had blue ink. No one used black back then. Thanks for the memory. 🎸🔪☮️

In the 70's got my first SAK (Fieldmaster) and almost always carried a compass because I worked leading hiking, skiing, or canoe trips. I stopped carrying a compass around 2019, years after I began to carry Garmin GPS. Now I use a Garmin watch because it has great GPS and in 2024 carried a Farmer Alox most days. Things change but stay the same.

As a teen in southern Idaho, my EDC was an Oldtimer stockman, bandana, wallet, Timex and a few strike anywhere match. When out on the high desert I added a .22, Ruger Standard initially and Single-Six later.

I always had a pencil and a little three blade knife.
One blade was a knife, the second blade was a fingernail file , the third was a bottle opener and flat blade screwdriver.
Pocket change from returning pop bottles.
    A Westclox pocket watch.
    A comb

I was born in '76 and was an independent kid in NYC by about 1984. I carried some cash, my apartment keys and a Victorinox Tinker every single day from about the age of 6 until I was in my late 20s.

I carried a similar collection of items in my early teens except for the magnifying lens. The lighter was of course, a Zippo.

I'm not a old as y'all, but during the 90s I carried a cheap camillus boyscout knife and a bic lighter.
Today I carry a SAK Camper and a bit of string. TBH I use the string more than the knife. Haha

The 70’s (8-18)... I got my Imperial Camp King taken away by a sixth grade teacher. Still have my 1967 Imperial US scout style knife but I never EDC’d anything but a wallet after getting Farm driving permit at 12yo. Always hated things in my pockets.

In the 70's we all had pocket combs, especially the one with a handle that stuck out of your back pocket. Because of the cool 70's hair.

My 70's carry was a lot less interesting. Knife - SAK that looked like it had been sharpened on a curb but was mostly bad technique on a stone by the 10-13 year old me. A bandana was regularly carried. A comb was added when girls became interesting. A match safe when I was out in the woods. A wallet when I started driving and dating - two things that insured I wouldn't have enough $ to buy any more knives...

Swiss pocket knife with the toothpick and tweezers, bazooka gum, pocket change or maybe a dollar or two if I was lucky, and a Goody brand comb in the back pocket. :)

    Hapy New Uear, Johnny!
Cool 'younger Johnny EDC.' we always carried a pocket knife - mine was an old Normark folder that I still have. I honeslty didnt carry much more than that, but I'd pick out different things, depending on what the day looked like...
By the way, I figured out how my comments were ending up on the wrong videos... My phone would autoplay in the background and so I was commenting on the next video! 🤦🏼‍♂️

Wishing you a Happy New Year, Johnny. Didn't carry a lighter till I started smoking which was still young. Had an Old Timer 3 blade stockman pattern & keys cause I was a latchkey kid.

Among my equipment was penny loafers with dimes in the leather strips. I actually used them several times to make payphone calls. A dime was good for a 3 minute call. Could also buy 2 full sized candy bars for a dime!

Penguin? Can of sardines. Doorknob? Disinfectant. Girl? Who knows. Me at 10? Boy scout knife version, sling shot, sport cards, it's an endless and varying list. Happy New Year's, Johnny. Thanks, and enjoy.

I carried a series of flea market knives as a kid until buying a case tri-fold. In HS there was a rumor that you could carry a knife in school as long as it was shorter than your palm (probably BS) so I carried the tri-fold every day-probably illegally. I also enjoyed hearing stories from older relatives who would get in trouble if they DIDN’T bring a knife to school 😂(they didn’t have pencil sharpeners)

@ - stone was small, about 1.5 inches x 3. The buck came later, when I was 12 and had paper route money. Always had some knife. Dad was a phantom pilot USAF & I raided his footlocker at home all the time and lifted his glass large signal mirror and orange jump switchblade. Got respect at recess.

In 3rd grade you were considered ill-equipped if you didn't have a Cub Scout knife in your pocket.
