We get Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy and Ron Weasley from Harry Potter! What can go wrong???? Knock at the Cabin, released in 2023, is an American apocalyptic psychological horror film helmed by M. Night Shyamalan. The screenplay was crafted by Shyamalan himself, based on an initial draft by Steve Desmond and Michael Sherman. This gripping cinematic experience draws inspiration from Paul G. Tremblay's acclaimed 2018 novel, The Cabin at the End of the World, marking the first adaptation of Tremblay's literary works. The stellar cast includes Dave Bautista, Jonathan Groff, Ben Aldridge, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Kristen Cui, Abby Quinn, and Rupert Grint. Within the story, a family seeking solace in a secluded cabin suddenly becomes captives to four mysterious individuals, who present them with an unimaginable demand.

It's actually pretty close to the book, plot wise. Just some death times are swapped around. In my personal opinion, the ending that was written for the movie is better than the book ending.

That's actually the reason why I preferred the book ending to this ending. In the book the couple refuse to sacrifice one another because if God refused to accept the death of a child, then that was no God worth believing in. The movie, on the other hand, promotes belief based on blind faith which runs counter to the point of the book, and is frankly a concept I do not support.
A surprising change considering M Night is not a religious person. A spiritualist albeit, but still.

Shyamalan has a way of drawing you in and making you think "What if I was in this kind of situation and what would I do". This was a very interesting movie. I have watched many of his movies. The Happening, The Village, Signs and Lady in the Water were very good.

The thing I found interesting was the colour of each of their shirts, each denoting one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse.

    Red is War
    Pale (Yellow) is Death

    • @w1975b

But someone else made comments on the personalities of each of them, that they were opposite of the 4 horsemen. Instead of famine, the young woman FED people. And the nurse saved people's lives.

    • @JonInCanada1
      @JonInCanada1 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@w1975b That's actually how the Horsemen are. In the mythos, Famine is depicted as a glutton, Death is seen as cheerful, War is seen as belligerent but fearful and Conquest is seen as having trepidation. According to Theological Scholarship, it's believe they not only represented each of their Acts curses, but also the hypocrisy of man.

      Redman (red) was War
      Adriane (black) was Famine

      Leonard (white) was DEATH
you can see it in the weapons, too. like how Leonard's was farming tools (a pitchfork, and had a small scythe on the other end) as a "reaper" is someone that gathers crops, the harvest (ie people) and DEATH "guides" the souls of the dead into the afterlife. Adriane's was made out of cooking blades, like a meat cleaver, etc. and so on.

Ppl have very strong feelings about this movie. The speech at the end of “why should we sacrifice ourselves for people who hate us” really broke my heart when I watched this movie. Honestly I 100% get it. If you’re told you don’t deserve love and a family and then you find it and are told to abandon that for the ppl that hate you for it then why would you want to abandon it for them?
But the point of the movie is about better than the people that hate. It’s about sacrificial love. I personally can see a lot of parallels to the Bible in this which I think is cool.

Yes, and no. They were the anti horsemen... Famine/cook, death/healing, conquest/leading, and war/forgiveness(Ruperts character). He really was about war earlier in life(malice), but you noticed after he swung once the look he had that people confused with fear was actually his new spirit controlling him. All of these people do things even if they don't want to like when the nurse came running in to be shot. They don't explain it as well as they do in the books but they're being controlled by a higher power throughout this.

Bautista was great. The guy has acting chops. I have higher hopes for his acting career than other former wrestlers have managed. Landing Drax and Rabban is a big deal, so it seems like things are good so far. This movie was a bit of a misstep, but nobody's perfect. And I say all that as someone who actually really doesn't care at all for pro-wrestling.
This movie was STUPID. I know you guys thought the idea was neat...but I've read the Bible...a lot. First, because I was forced to...later, because I wanted to make sure I understood my enemies.
So, really, any variation of any of the Bible, or anything like it, are just off the table for me.
On top of that...I'm just beyond sick of Shyamalan and his ego. He's done one movie that was reasonably good, and one that was mediocre...and the rest have been pure crap. Signs is still the worst (yes, even over The Last Airbender...seriously, what fuckin aliens come to a planet without suits covered in what is to them sulfuric acid? Would you go to Venus without a fucking suit? Fuck no, you wouldn't), but none beyond those other two are any good.
In a way, he's like an even more dull version of Tarantino...someone else with too much ego and too little skill...just, much more exaggerated.
