Ennis is a legend.
Omg garth Ennis confirming he is doing a other punisher mini run set in Vietnam 🇻🇳 just made my day, I hope its about frank second tour in vietnam
It does, it takes place after Frank meets Nick for the first time in "My War Gone By" afaik
@@tatesears8958 omg amazing I so can’t wait to read that
Garth Ennis is legendary, and a remarkably cool guy. Hope DC collects Hitman in OHCs or omnis eventually.
In Germany Panini just published the run in four hardcovers. Glad they did, but holy smokes, the price tag. 70€ for one single book.
@@samsara107 That's pretty awesome, spendy, but man that series is great. Really wish DC would get their act together over here.
When DC does OHCs they are usually way too pricey for my tastes... HOWEVER, I would pay the money when it comes to Hitman. No doubt.
I'm a Garth fan, regardless of the criticisms of his writing.
However, I've not read Hitman, could anyone give me a summary or something pls?
@@samsara107 panini is goated
i met Darick Robertson 2 years ago here in Belgium, after a talk and him signing all my books, i mentioned i was missing definitive edition 5 & 6 of the boys.
His wife gave me their card and told me to send them an email, i did and long story short..
they sent me a definitive edition 5 signed & sketched and some other goodies like the TPB Oliver & the first issue of dear becky, also signed.
one of the nicest folks in comics i've ever spoken too. Still looking for that definitive 6 though. 😅
At 49:05 - Ennis explaining how Steve Dillon’s artistic clarity and restraint made for more impactful moments of madness is a low key master class on storytelling. Such a great interview.
Same with his take on the art of books that get adapted having to be accessible for a more casual audience. Such a thought out and industry smart answer that I couldnt if thought of before hand.
Garth is my favourite writer of all time. Hands down. Thats in 50 years. The man is a genius and his humour is without peer. Pleased he has had such deserved success over the last few years. Garth, thanks mate for the enjoyment and happiness, and Omar for such an awesome discussion.
Garth Ennis has been a favorite since the 90's. I love The Boys hardcover omnibus 1-- can't wait for the next two to come out!
I would love to see Hitman and his War comics in oversized hardcovers.
Preacher made me start collecting. I bought the whole series then dived into the Punisher Max and The boys. Love me some Garth Ennis writing!
Exactly how I started following him.
_Preacher_ was my gateway drug into his astonishing catalog of work. If you haven't already, check out the two volumes of _Crossed_ he created and wrote ( _Crossed_ vol 1 is the single greatest "zombie apocalypse" comic arc of all time), his war comics series (particularly the _War Stories_ and _Battlefields_ series), and his other originals from Avatar. Dude's batting average is insane.
@@Vindsvelle I was pleasantly surprised by how restrained Ennis' original Crossed story was. Outside of the salt scene (you know the one), it doesn't really devolve into gore and shocking stuff for the sake of it.
In Ennis we trust.
Proud of Omar working his way up
I wish those punisher omnis would come back to print
Hell yeah, me too! They are in out of print hell huh lol
@@Aluminatihusker yeah God I whish everything was in print I recently checked cheap graphic novels for Sara and that was out of stock and for a punisher fan who has never read punisher I would love if those omnis came back into print.
Wish they put out all of punisher’s stuff in omnibus form.
He's a good writer....I didn't know about hitman...it was like news to a hermit like me, felt like my soul was torn from my body. As for the punisher yes I'm waiting for a reprint the reprint fir Sara is next month the 18th I believe on amazon guys...
You're in luck, it's happening and shipping the 18th of this month.
The fact that Ennis upsets all the snowflakes about his treatment of superheroes makes me love him even more. Was there any other character from the "Bloodlines" era that was even half successful?
Snowflakes 🌨️🤓😂
He made somr amazing 2000 ad stories, and a modern dan dare comic
The third comic I ever read (and first series) was Preacher, the second I finished that I read the boys. They are each still in the rare group of series I have reread over 4 times. Garth Ennis is one of my all time favorite writers! This was fantastic, great interview as always Omar!!!
Will support this man's work no matter what. Garth's work has helped me get through the difficult times in my life. So happy The Boys finally get some oversized love - well deserved.
I absolutely cannot wait for him to return to the punisher!!! My all time favorite comic is the punisher max by the man himself Mr.Ennis
It's incredible.
They absolutely need to reprint them in omnibus form.
Whenever Garth speaks, I always picture Jesse & Cassidy having a pint lmao
I bought the boys cause the show, and also preacher, and invincible,I would love a show abought Sara.
I was speaking to John McRea at a convention in Dublin and he asked where I lived and proceeded to tell me how himself, Garth and Steve used to work on comics in a pub local to me, my mind was blown!
Thank you for interviewing my favorite writer!
One of very few creators whose entire body of collected work (i.e. TPBs, omnis, etc.) I've completely committed to adding to my personal library. Not just the greatest writer of war comics in history, but one of the all-time greats. A genuine living legend.
What a great surprise to have on the channel. Omar you killed it with all the questions and wow Garth seems like such a nice guy.
Met Garth Ennis in Northern Ireland for my first comic convention great guy
Talk about an amazing interview, congrats Omar!
I like Garth Ennis one of my all time favorite writers hitman should be collected is it a great series. I hope it gets adapted into a TV series
One of my favorite writers. Thank you, Garth Ennis!
Listening to Garth's account of the distribution issues affecting Marvel / DC comics in the UK during the 70's / early 80's brought back memories of my time as a kid. Unless you lived in a large city ( and even then ... ) it was damn hard to get hold of consecutive issues. I recall that irritated the hell out of me, especially for Claremont's run on Uncanny X-Men. DC's distribution was slightly better than Marvel's in my area, and that probably nudged me toward favouring reading Batman, Superman & the Justice League. As for my friends, they very rapidly gravitated toward 2000AD with Judge Dredd, Rogue Trooper etc. Those were the days !
Garth Ennis has always been one of my favorite comic book writers. I have enjoyed so many of his stories.
I loved that interview. Great seeing y'all talk comics. Ennis is one of a kind. Legend. Take care and peace everyone.
They should reprint 5 and 6 of the definitive editions since a good amount of people don’t have those volumes. They go for over $500 or more.
Great interview
I blame Welcome Back Frank for bringing me back into comics and being constantly broke
Absolutely loved Sara, had never read a WW2 comic before but the cover art was gorgeous and the story sounded interesting.
Was blown away at how good it is!
Man I love these interview. Great job
Nice!! I really dig his Preacher, Hellblazer and the majority of his Punisher tales. Kinda unfortunate how little interest he's had regarding superheroes but oh well. No biggie. Even though The Boys was a headache to read (couldn't make it past 5 issues lmao), I absolutely enjoy the TV series. DC needs to print a Hitman omnibus right fackin' now.
Garrrrttthhhhhhhhh! 😘 Love him so much!!!!!!
phenomenal interview. congrats Omar!
I've only read Preacher book one and already I'm a fan of his writing
I'm kinda jealous that you get to read it for the first time! Wish I could have that experience again.
Great interview! I'm looking forward to The Lion and the Eagle in trade paperback. It's due out on August 31st.
This interview was WONDERFUL. Omar, I’m from NYC, you’re gonna have a great time in NYC. Just keep your head on a swivel, like you have to anywhere.
Great interview Omar. 👍 can't wait for the next interview. Maybe Greg Rucka, Frank Miller?
Roger Stern
A true legend
This conversation was fantastic! Thanks Omar for putting this together.
Never read Garth Ennis's stuff, but now I think I will give it a try. It was a very interesting interview. Hope we will see them more in the future.
I pretty much binge anything Ennis as long as I get them!!! ❤️
Amazing interview!
I freaking love these creator interviews! Thanks for doing them Omar! Garth Ennis is one of my favorite comic book writers so this was superb!
Awesome interview.
I love me a bit of Ennis.
The 1st piece of his I read was The Pro. It had me falling about laughing. Same as the boys. I'm yet to read my copies of preacher but I'm looking forward to it 4 sho.
Rewatching a second time, it’s so cool to hear what Garth Ennis is passionate about. I love these oversized Omni’s!!! Need more hardcovers of this man’s work. 🙌
Excellent interview! Thank you, Omar! And thank you to Garth and Joe for sharing!
Being from the same neck of woods as myself I was immediately interested in Garth when I learned where he was from and he quickly became my favourite writer. The humour in his writing is exactly how we talk over here. People think he's trying to be edgy. No sir. We really are that depraved LOL. But in all seriousness, The Boys, Preacher, Punisher MAX, Hitman, Hellblazer, etc etc. The man is a legend. I would sell my Grandmother for an omni of Hitman :)
The amount of laugh out load moments early on in hitman made me laugh myself silly many a time. The art was absolutely brilliant and the detail, dear lord the detail. We really do need a Hitman Omni. DC leaving moey on the table again....sigh.
Awesome interview of my all time favourite writer.
By far my favourite writer, I have his stuff in the darkness, preacher six book trades, the boys again six book trades and his run of judge dredd complete case files which was the first comic strip I read, it was 2000ad and it was set on justice one...oh and I have Sara which is by far my favourite. Great video my man...amazing as per usual...
Great interview - I would love to see Marvel produce a prequel companion to Garth's Punisher MAX Omnis!
Some sort of Punisher/Fury MAX: Days Gone By Omnibus with all the Nick Fury and Frank material not in the original 2 Punisher volumes.
I find it hard to believe Garth hasn't been tapped up by the BBC to present a war documentary series
Hoping The Lion & the Eagle gets a hardcover. Picked up the single issues and thought it was great.
A trade paperback was announced as the collected edition, but I’m with you. I do hope we get an oversized hardcover eventually.
Great interview Omar, was good to hear Garth talking. A nice collection of those Fury stories he did in one book would be nice from Marvel. And good to hear he's working on more Punisher. Hawk the Slayer I'll be picking up once collected (it continues the story from the 80's movie of the same name)
Fantastic interview Omar. And I say that as an old fan of Garth from his 2000ad days and who bought issue #1 of Preacher the day it arrived.
Thank you so much.
Espectacular Entrevista Omar!!! congratulations!
Gracias hermano!
Excellent interview! Really looking forward to his new Punisher miniseries!
I'm wondering if it will come in issues first or straight to TPB. 🤔
Thanks Omar
Ennis is the fucking shit, when I was in jail I read the entire Punisher💀 Max series and it really got me through the time, Barracuda hands down is the greatest villain ever
Bruh
For what did you went into jail if I’m allowed to ask 🧐

Comment for the algorithm, gonna check this tonight after work.
Wished he would have talked about Rover red Charlie, that's my favorite story he's done, and no one talks about it.
Awesome interview👍🏻just got chance to watch now, so insightful and Garth and Jo seem like really sound guys you could easily have a beer or two with🍺🍻 and chat comics/tv/film until last orders😄
Preacher was the absolute game changer comic for me, I picked up tpb vol. 1 some years ago now, it blew my mind and picked up vol. 2-6 as soon as I possibly could. The first fully collected edition I had and changed my view of how impactful comics can be, Preacher comic was better than any film/tv show or book I read that year and I've been seeking out cool collected editions such as this ever since. Great to see an interview with the creator of such a seminal piece of work🤟🏼🤟🏼😃
What a great interview. He is one of the best writers.
Definitely not female friendly
@@m1lst3r89 I just finished Sara. That was pure female friendly. Tulip is one of my favorite characters after reading Preacher. I'm not sure what you've read, but he is phenomenal.
@@trishb.6398 Sara maybe, it's not hardcore nuts as other Ennis work, but how could you like Preacher? I find mind-numbingly odd that women are so into Preacher.
@@m1lst3r89 Tulip is amazing. She's a strong female lead that doesn't put up with squat. How could anyone not look up to her? Preacher is one of the best books out there.
@@trishb.6398 well if that's what you got from Preacher then I feel bad for you.
As for Preacher, it's just an average series. I still don't understand why you would like it since it's not female friendly. And in general basis, best things are not always universal.
I love Hitman
Love everything Ennis! Now if DC can get around to putting out Hitman in some nice hardcovers or some Absolute editions, that would be friggin' amazing!
Im from the future.. issue 1 of get fury is FIRE
fantastic interview, but i definitely would have asked about CROSSED. love that book so disgusting!!
Love Ennis's work.
I've just ordered the first 3 crossed books.
Simon spurrier wrote on the crossed wish you were here crossed books so I've ordered them too.
Love Spurrier n Ennis.
Crossed looks brutal.
Came down to see if anything about Crossed was brought up, it's my favorite of Garths work.
Love how no-one really wants to ask him about "The Crossed"
Awesome! Enjoyed this!
Did they say a new SARA hardback is coming?
Believe so
Heavy hitters alert! NMC is elevating!
Wonder is Ennis ever saw Batman team up with Scooby-Doe or played by Adam West on TV as a kid? given that he is born in at the beginning of the 70's.
Steve Epting getting credit... Brilliant
When Garth Ennis comes to Brazil, I just wanted an altographer kkk
Bummer the Garth wont be at NYCCC...Omar y are you worried about coming to NY!? Hope we get to grab a beer hermano!
Still waiting for that new Punisher Vietnam story
Have to disagree that the default nature of an adaption is to change the source material. Anime, for the most part, is a 1 for 1 translation of manga to screen and it's all the better for it. Also, going by the numbers, it would seem that it helps sales of both immensely to do it this way. I really wish the western industry would try to emulate this practice.
That's not to say a 1 for 1 is necessary for a good adaption. Daredevil on Netflix is my favourite comic adaption. Changes were made but it still felt very true to Daredevil. I guess because I love Garth's work so much I'm overly critical when his work is adapted to TV.
I'm a big fan of Ennis, PREACHER is probably my top 3 all time favorites, his PUNISHER is the best Punisher, and so on, but THE BOYS is really not all that good. Yes there's a message, and depth to it, but all in all it's way too slow moving if it's isn't actually just standing in place with no progress whatsoever in the story or characters - or entertainment value.
The art is also very much sub par and some issues look so rushed, the characters don't even look the same!
To quteo a character that i creator. I am to space opera and fantasy ala Tolkien ish classical fantasy and maybe Sword and sorcery. What garth ennis is to the superhero genre.
Something that does do not interess me in general i am not into hard sci fi either ala arthur c clarke. But most of my sci fi is like cyberpunk or new wave.
And most my fantasy is the dresden files or Garrett pi.
There some Except like i do really some moorcock and glen cock and also dark fantasy ish stuff Here and Here. And did like some poal Anderson fantasy stuff too.
Would love if DC gave Ennis another black label Batman miniseries. Reptilian was a lot of fun
Wonder what comic he was talking about with not very accessible art
Hmm, not sure. Doom Patrol or Locke & Key perhaps ?
@@djsuth7727 was thinking ab that but idek. Locke and key art is pretty good i dont think itd be that. Could maybe be doom patrol. But i didnt know they put out a ton of the paperbacks for that.
@@jrson5000 I agree, Locke & key is good. But the show is quite different tonally to the actual comic, so I wonder if that may have caused some curious readers to bounce off it ? Whatever the show Garth is talking about, there is a fair chance it must be a Netflix adaptation.
@@jrson5000 The art in Locke and Key is way too cartoony I always thought.
It's the Umbrella Academy.
There's not even remotely a shadow of doubt in my mind.
That said, Sweet Tooth would be a contender as well.
Hate Garth.
He hates you back.
