Preacher, Punisher And Chicken F*ckers: Garth Ennis Speaks (Behind The Panel) | SYFY WIRE
/ syfywire
He's literally my second-favorite writer next to Alan Moore. The entire Preacher and Battlefields series along with both of his Punisher runs are pure graphic novel gold.
Absolute preacher is one of the most beautiful comic book of all time. It's glorious. Love Steve and Garth. They were a great team.
By "beautiful" I assume you mean tasteless and grotesque? And yes I read it when it was first coming out with a mixture of fascination peppered with disgust. It's entertaining, but often engages in shock value for its own sake and after awhile that became Ennis's calling card to the point of being cliche.
@@GodLovesComicsPreacher really disgusted you?
@GodLovesComics Your opinion. You are entitled to it. However, many don't share that opinion.
Myself included.
Preacher was and is one of my favorite comic series of all time.
Garth seems like the kind of dude that can go on about the same topic forever if you let him. This guy is decent at keeping him on track without interrupting him too much. I give him a B+.
I can't believe I still haven't read his Punisher MAX run. Gotta fix that. Great interview!
rip Steve Dillon
I didn't know he'd passed on. Dillon was one the best true storytellers in the business. He could convey so much through the expressions of his characters that thought balloons were redundant. As good as Kirby in many ways, and a more polished pure artist. Rip Mr Dillon.
Garth Ennis is the kind of guy who’ll buy you a pint and then tell you you’re from two towns over and he hates your guts
Said this before and I'll say it again here, Mike does the best creator interviews. Love these longer videos too.
MikeNRoll808 thanks for watching the videos! We’ve got a bunch of other cool ones coming soon!
@Matheus Melo Appreciate that -- glad you enjoy the interviews!
I know why Saga is on his list, he can relate to the turning the page to a WTF moment out of nowhere.
I've been hearing about Saga for years. Give me two good reasons to start reading it :)
@@MrHantz101 Hope you've started!! I started this summer, so good!!
Punisher Max is one of my all time favorites!
also platoon,
he also worked on every marvel max title, his marvel max title are great like
And fury max
its awesome
I agree. I wasn't a Punisher fan prior to his Max series.
My favorite Ennis Punisher story was a single issue I think Punisher #6 on the main series that started after the 12 issue Welcome Back Frank story. The issue was called "Do Not Fall in New York City" and it was epic.
That is one of my favorites as well "brotherhood" is another hidden gem in garths first punisher run
Mike, I've said this before, but you are a fantastic interviewer. Thank you for this. And Garth was fantastic. Great watch!
Julius Platt Whittlebred hey, thanks! Glad
You dig the videos
@@michaelavila6533
Your love for comics comes through in every video.
That means I'm doing at least one thing right -- thanks!@@LRM23936
I found it interesting that Darick Robertson wasn't mentioned among those artists.
Its been years but i still wanna see those crossed webisodes
I really enjoyed hearing about his relationships with John McCrea, Steve Dillon, and Russ Braun. Mike this was great. Please interview him every NYCC, the guy (smartly) doesn't waste time on social media but it's still awesome to hear from him and you're a great interviewer.
(although showing Darick's art/cover when mentioning Russ' name...c'mon now fellas.)
Preacher 🙌🏼 Punisher Max 🙌🏼
Ennis is my favorite comics writer!!!!! Great interview!!!!
Preacher is perfect. Writing, art and cover art. I bought a lot of comics back in the 90's, mainly for the art. But Preacher was the one I bought month after month because I was so excited to see what happened next! I still re-read it!
That's a great interview! Thank you both, and all!
*EDIT: I recommend Providence to everyone I encounter who is into Lovercraft.
Getting an Ennis signed Preacher issue for 17 bucks on ebay lol
Absolutely love the Ennis/McCrea run on Hitman.
still my favorite Constantine books are Ennis/Dillon
The Slavers storyline was my favorite Ennis punisher comic book
Find yourself a man that trusts you as much as Garth Ennis trusts Steve Dillon and vice-versa
I miss Steve Dillon
"So, what kind of life experience do you have to draw on, to come up with something like "Crossed"? 🤨
Heh true
Hurricane Katrina
Interesting how The Punisher Comics took a 180 degree plot turn after the 9/11 attacks.
Fantastic writer, big fan. Seems like such a nice, normal fella, ha.
BOYS PREACHER PUNISHER MAX ALL EXCELLENT
I still want to see a Crossed webseries.
That was the craziest comics I've ever read
Now that would not happen, especially not in today's climate.
I'm convinced this guy is Brit from Invincible😂
The Boys is one of the most under-rated books
I actually just finished it last night and the final arc emotionally devastated me. Although it really does make sense plot wise why it would happen. It was a fantastic story though, it might be in my top 10 of all time.
To me, Butcher was such a tragic figure
@@justinridenour3382 I agree but after frenchie and the female it was over for him in my mind.
It feels like he's a little tired talking about preacher and his comic
I'm not so sure about that, but Garth was really excited to spend some quality time talking about Frank Castle. He feels very strongly that his MK Punisher expanded his fanbase, and is (justly) proud of the book
fabulous interview!
GodDAMMM I love that guy!
Preacher and the punisher are awesome.
Adoro le tue opere 😁
The marvel knights punisher content was much more fun and humorous than the marvel max punisher
I have all the issues of Hitman and a good portion of his Demon run
Crossed is awesome
Stephen Bissette cocreated John Constantine.
CROSSED baby
Very awesome sir
That make no sense, he doesn't beat poor or mentally ill, but if they happen to be criminals not criminals but dangerous criminals!
I love Garth. But there’s sometimes that I wonder why he’s writing comics at all. He doesn’t seem to really care as much for the medium...or he does in his own strange Garth Ennis way.
He loves the medium, he just doesn't like superheroes
yeah. Like he said in the interview, you'd have to really appreciate them as a kid before you could appreciate them as an adult. And honestly, Ennis presents the valid argument that there should be more variety in comics, not just superheroes
@@jaredgarcia8638 To be fair to him, he's not entirely wrong. Though luckily we've managed to become a world where comics in America aren't just superheroes anymore. They are still popular and I doubt that'll change but you can also read science fiction, fantasy, crime, etc.
@@someokiedude9549 well that's true. Hopefully DC and Marvel could pick up the trend that comics don't need to be just superheroes. If that happens, we could see a new golden age
can i too ?
His worldview is really peculiar if he believes that Christianity with all its faults has been largely negative to the western world if he still resides in western world just find it funny I mean it’s not like he’s itching to move to somewhere in the Middle East or Eastern Asia
It’s not peculiar. There is no atheist world he can move to. Utter fool.
South Korea genius....
Foodstampshawty South Korea has a strong and irritating Christian presence
M Rana nothing comparable to any other country with a major Christian presence. Roughly half the population is atheist.
He's not too fond of any religion, not just Christianity. Coming from a Christian by the way.
A devout atheist that's an oxymoron if I ever heard one
sedohema it’s kinda funny the way it’s all like a giant circle
Not really. Atheism is the *belief* that no god exists.
It's not a religion, but it's a belief and you can feel strongly or weakly about it.
Weird. He´s into some worst works of two great writers.
