- In this video, I will show you Conservation and restoration of WWII Relics. This WWII Relics has been in the ground for 75 years.
These are my personal experiments. Results were pleasant to me. I don 't encourage you to do the same, you can spoil your relics.
If you do as I do then make sure to use rubber gloves. I don 't like gloves and I 'm not comfortable working in them.

Yep it was a German army tag which once the soldier was killed someone like an officer, a NCO or a nearby solider would clip his tag in half. One left behind on body before buried in unmarked grave. the other is for ID purpose.
Recently, a unmarked grave was found in Russia and the top tag still on the remain, they soon had the dead soldier's name and company, etc. gave his possession to his surviving family. The body now reburied in a German war grave. That's why they snapped the tag in half.

... as I wonder who was the servicemember who wore this tag. Did he survive the war? Did he have a family? Is he still alive?

Ahh..hmm...respect for the thorough and meticulous nature of your work, but as to Nazi memorabilia maybe Harry Lime in The Third Man was really right when he said " The dead are happier dead."

What country are you located in? Where did you find that German Wehrmacht I.D. tag? Since the tag was complete and not broken in half, I'd assume that this tag would be turned in to the authorities as there _may_ be a missing soldier's body somewhere nearby. Efforts are being made these days to get a lot of these deceased soldiers remains found and returned home.

And Why bee wax instant of the candle wax ??
Because a candle is made of paraffin. Beeswax is better for conservation than paraffin.
Do you use a copper brush to clean dog tags?

Seems odd did you not find remains with the I’d tag
Bazza Ham probably did but these things don’t put off grave robbers
They hung on the neck by a string that routinely broke
You can read many accounts of Soldats loosing them.
Usually there is only half an ID tag with a body, the other half goes to casualty registration.

Only if his comrade was abled take it.
If they were under fire or he died without his group near him the fallen one may be left with the whole tag.
But most poeple would probably report a soldiers body when they find one.
You have to be a really terrible person to rob a dead soldier off his belongings.
It's not about conservation it's about your ego! "Look what I can do" These are bits of history you're ruining- if you want something new and shiny go buy a reproduction!

buddy, he is cleaning it of rust
rust isn't part of the item, and removing it reveals paint and whatnot
sure, the dogtag, making it seem shiny and new i can see as being unneccesairy.
but the badge and licence plate? he just cleaned them up, cleared them of rust and prevented them from rusting again
that is preservation, and is very much accepted within the collectors community.
"ruining" would be sandblasting the licence plate and repainting it with new paint.
