If these bombers were actually heavily shielded and had ungodly long range missiles, the design would be amazing. Like a Star Wars space ballista.
The shields should be so strong that they need low grade turbolasers or concerted missiles to take down, if you can even get close enough before they snipe you from afar.
That would be one insane ship! Imagine if it also had insane frontal shields. It would basically be a ranged phalanx.
@@wtpiv6041 Exactly, and the entire time, you need to fly at these things just to get in range as they launch concussion missiles and proton torpedoes and any fighter defense before you can even get close. Then you find out these things are tough as coconuts and need heavy artillery to punch down.
I think, or its at least as much head canon as I'll spare the B-117s, that they COULD have been amazing missile platforms- but the Resistance didn't have the ordinance, so they got crammed with the bomblets they used.

@@davidecarucci1073 The B-Wing having lasers capable of cutting through shields of corvette-sized flagships is preposterous. No starfighter of that would have a weapon of that power. The real reason B-Wings were ship-killers was a heavy payload of torpedoes and missiles, and that distinction is important because they couldn't just do that over and over.
B wing is very good and actually has gyroscope animation. Fast, shoots like crazy, and unlimited torpedos. Plus, it’s not that stupid resistance bomber so that’s a win

I think the OT Y-wing and B-wing are better. The OT Y-wing has some good speed and maneuvering and the B-wing has a faster fire rate and it only slower by 1. Both have infinite torpedoes and high shields

Also the GNK ship (comically large Gonk Droid) has cannons that do 1000 damage, one shotting any fighter.

I honestly think it’s a cool design, I just wish the “Resistance” was actually a standing military.
Always liked the design. Reminds me of the old flying fortresses of ww2. Heck my grandmother was on the assembly line for the b-24 liberator. Probably why I have a thing for them

I mean it's inspired (as in quite stolen) from the B-17 Flying Fortress. It's the BS-17 Star Fortress or something.
A man of culture I see. Tljs bombers are my favorite for the aesthetic alone. They served their purpose in the plot and look cool
It'd be cooler if the bomb bay extended behind the ship, not below. Or if it hung below the ship but ran parallel, not perpendicular. A very thick, chunky ship that could still conceivably land.
I hate the design. The vertical bomb bay looks like something only a 5-year-old would think how a bomber carries so many bombs. The verticalness only exists to be a dumb death trap for Rose's sister. And the regressive turret with an actual physical targeting reticule instead of a targeting computer is also stupid. Yeah, the first Star Wars was heavily inspired by WW2 bombing but Rian Johnson didn't have to go that far.
And in the movies it's slow moving, can't take a hit, was shown to have no real offensive capabilitys, Takes 2 pilots, and a downed tie fighter took out 3 of them.
Meanwhile slave 1 had those super bombs over 50 years earlier. As jango fett used them before the clone wars started.
I like the design, and if they had made it faster and more armored, I think the Star Wars community would have actually liked them.

Truth be told, I actually liked the bomber as a _design,_ it's just that the Dreadnought Battle was the absolute worst place to show off what these things were capable of. By comparison, both Death Star battles were the best place to show off what the X-Wing was capable of, and likely why everyone has such a high opinion of it.
Agreed 100%, I want to see Starfortresses used properly. Hell, they've technically already retconned the slow speed with how quick they were zooming off at the end of TROS

I love how deep this game is. It seems like there's so many ways to feel powerful and do cool shit. In the original complete saga everything was totally straight forward and obvious, but this game there's so much more playing around you can do to become powerful. The possibilities are endless really

Definitely agree, but I’ll stick with the B-wing. Probably not as good, but it’s got some of the same advantages and I like flying the B-wing.

I've come around to liking the Resistance bomber. It's literally just a B-17 bent in half just behind the cockpit with the wingtips glued to the side. Perfect Star Wars aesthetic. It's a shame they have such dumb mechanics in the movie. That thing would be a horrifying missile carrier.
Seems a bit too on the nose on how much the design is lifted from a real world plane.
There is the _Broadside-class cruiser kdb-1_ for that job.
I would have been fine with the bombers if there weren't so many fucking flaws to them. Like how were they not blown out of existence by the hundreds of tie fighters or the other star destroyers, hell half of a tie fighter took out 3 on its own.
With Jar Jar having a good moveset and now this, I feel like the devs must have a running joke where they make disliked stuff decent in-game
Given how much emphasis they placed on sequel trilogy, to forego OT & PT moments, i suspect Disney encouraged this idea to test whether fans might actually start to come around on ST before they spend billions rebooting/retconning the latter trilogy. I.e, only space battle in OT is first Death Star trench run ?!? I was crushed that there was no DSII space battle from RotJ. No Its A Trap moment ? Really ? But we need to spend a half hour on running through Crait caves ?

If they'd actually been reasonably designed torp carriers, decently fast and maneuverable like B-Wings, then that space battle would haven't been quite as ridiculous.
Fast and maneuverable are words not typically used to describe the B-wing. It was known for being slow but having really strong shields.
The fact that a Lego game gave this ship more respect and badassery than the movies shows how broken Di$ney is.
As a StarFortress fan who thinks everyone has been WAY too hard on it, I approve of this OPness.

The bomber would have been so much more effective if they could have dumped dozens of torpedoes at the Star Destroyers like Katyusha rocket trucks.
It doesn't fire a pair of cannons, but a trio: you can see the shots from the third cannon at the bottom of the ship come into view when shooting distant targets.
I've been using the B-Wing and enjoying it quite a bit. Can't really compare it to other ships as I haven't done the research or whatever. But, you know, I've always really liked the design so I started using it after finishing the story modes and it's been great.
What's the best character? I've found Grievous does really well. He's got sabers for combat, a gun for range, can throw thermal detonators. A mixture of 3 "classes". Are there any characters that do more?

The First Order transport/Count Dookus solar sailor, are one of the only few ships that shoot really fast.
To be fair, those bombers were going up against First-Order Superior TIE Fighters which have some pretty heavy artillery, not to mention they were also being fired upon by a First-Order Dreadnought, which Poe literally stated a few minutes earlier, were ‘fleet killers’.
They saw all those reviews about how stupid the bombers were and made them cracked in the game 🤣.
Reminds me of how Jar Jar is unironically one of the best characters to play as in some of the games...
I 100% agree. I tested out all the other fighters, and the Starfortress has the best firing speed of all the bomber classes in my opinion, and just one of the laser bolts one shots almost every enemy except for the vulture droids that appear alongside Droid Control Ship encounters. Super glad I'm not the only one who realized this

I always imagined the MG-100 Starfortress would work on game as the Missile Cruisers from Empire at War. Small and slow but that is for balancing their firepower, a ship type best working as protected by fighter squadrons, or for orbital bombardments like it's namesake the "Stratofortress" at the Vietnam war.
Wouldn't a warship be better suited for orbital bombardment? The MG-100 Star Fortress' slow speed and poor maneuverability means it could evade enemy ground fire. Still agree with the rest of this reply.
@@pepperedash4424 I just mentioned as an option. I "Empire at War"those type of cruisers only useful in long distance with their concussion missiles. Also may bias, because was good to see new designs in a Star Wars movie, unlike the repackadged versions of ships which we already saw before.
@@bencebotye3904 I'll give you the new designs behind the Star Fortresses being a breath of fresh air. Alternatively said design lacks subtlety and nuance in their design inspirations. Essentially being just a kit bashed B-17 fuselage, where as the appearance of the ISD from the stern to the bridge takes inspiration from the USS Texas. Something the average Joe would never pick up on unless pointed out and told where to look. Then there's actually kitbashed designs that use parts from two completely different machines, like the model for the Millennium Falcon using hulls from WW2 German medium tanks (Panzer lol and Panther), while also incorporating a cockpit from a B-29 Super Fortress. The Stat Fortress just feels lazy and uninspired by comparison.
So it's a B-Wing in the game. I was very disappointed when they came up with these old-fashioned carpet bombers that were just big sitting ducks, needing to be escorted by dozens of fighters. Return of the Jedi showed how strong fighters were against star destroyers, so they should've just used those again in the 8th film. Especially the B-Wings because while they were present over Endor, you don't actually see any action with them. In the Rogue Squadron games, they're depicted as dedicated fighter-bombers to deal with Star Destroyers while taking a lot of damage without trouble.

I switched a lot of times between using ships but never used the bombers, I did not even know about the unlimited torpedoes until now (that's insane btw). After a while I decided to stick to the A-wing fighter, I felt it was decent and not all that bad, but I mostly used it because I have the lego collector's edition of the ship

The starfighter combat in this game is a lot of fun. They should make a non-LEGO starfighter game based on this, like a Rogue Squadron reboot. It would be a lot of fun, especially if they include ground combat, more secondary weapons than just proton torpedoes (Concussion Missiles, ION Cannons, Proton Bombs, etc.) along with the capital ships and a wide variety of starfighters to pilot.

I kinda liked the bomber design, other than the bomb chute. If it had a second lower deck that was like a rectangular cargo hold or something it’d be a really cool armed freighter.
This makes me wonder if, like in the First World War which inspired much of Star Wars, the bombers were ordered to approach slowly. With that engine block and fairly thin head-on profile, I feel like they should be faster.
They didn't have strategic bombers in the disease nest known as the Western Front. You're thinking of the Second World War.

My fav. ship is the IG one. It is simple to get and it shoots pretty fast. Holding down the fire button just shreds.
Feels like a retcon of the bomber to make it seem better than it was in the movie
haven't unlocked this one yet, and so far I liked the B-Wing a lot, having also unlimited torpedoes. My heart still is hanging on the Outrider for now though, and I cannot wait finally grab myself the Fortitude for its looks :D

You find out it wasn't a bomber at all it was meant to airdrop humanitarian aid while being equipped enough to protect itself from the enemy.
And/or deliver intelligent payloads like homing mines, probe droids, buzz droids and rocket droids.

The Droid Gunship is on par with it but I like the design of this one the best.
I find the Falcon Escape Pod quite powerful by virtue of just being damn near impossible for the AI to hit.

I always thought the this ship design would have been perfect as an extremely long range sniper that fired Diamond Boron Missiles. The "Bomb Bay" always reminds me of a magazine, like you'd see in any firearm with a detachable magazine. Likewise, it'd be cool to see the missiles loaded from the bottom to top and fired from positions on either side of the ship.
It'd basically be a cheap capital ship or structure killer, lacking the staying power of larger combat vessels. They wouldn't be ridiculously slow, easy targets, like the ones in TLJ, but they obviously wouldn't have the speed and maneuverability of something like a B-Wing. While they could have respectable speed and defenses, it's designed primarily for firepower.
As Star Wars space battles are heavily influenced by WW2 fighter footage, you'd still get the classic scenario of fighters protecting "bombers" without giving us one of the dumbest ships in all of Star Wars.
In Empire at War there is the _Broadside-class cruiser kdb-1_ for that job.

The droid gunship is actually quite good. It also has infinite torpedoes and good maneuverability plus a decent fire rate.
This probably, currently, my second favorite ship in the game. I just unlocked the IG-2000 (IG-88's ship), and I've been really enjoying that one

The Micro Jedi Intercepter is nuts. Fast and maneuverable (obviously. It’s super tiny) and destroys targets with a single shot.

My favourite so far is the B-Wing starfighter. I started playing the game in chronological order and got the B-Wing as soon as I could. Besides the iconic and "asymmetric" look that I like, it also features infinite proton torpedos and has a decent firing rate (far better than the Y-Wing and pretty close to the X-Wing). That being said, spamming everything with bombs gets boring rather quickly and I oftentimes find myself default to weaker ships (preferably some that can't fire torpedos at all) just to have a sort of challenge.

The Starfortress is a pretty powerful bomber. These things are used to take out some of the largest of capital ships. Despite having shields, it still suffers from what most bombers suffers from. Against a mass assault of fighters, it is a sitting duck.
It also didn't help that those bombers were designed to withstand fire from Empire Era Tie fighters not, the ones used in TLJ must've been about 30 years old.
@@freshFerdinand Yeah, they just missed the Civil War. They started production in or around 5 ABY. When the Rebel Alliance restored the Republic, the Republic contracted the same company that produced B-wing to make the StarFortress bombers to help capture Imperial holdouts. After the war was over, Mon Mothma decided to reduce the military down to like 10% of what it was. Some of StarFortress bombers went to the scrapyard, the rest went into civilian hands and became random different things like mining ships, rescue responder ships, refueling ships, star mapping... I even read somewhere some where used for fire-fighting. The ones that were in surplus were given to the resistance in 28 ABY. I wish the Rebel Alliance had this bomber at Endor. Oh my goodness, if they had this, it could just YEET an Executor-class dreadnaught into oblivion.
Learning that the bombers had infinite torpedoes made me go just *slightly* mad with power
I personally love the Theta-Shuttle, you know the Shuttle Palp used to pick-up Anakin on Mustafar.
It has apretty good rate of fire and the dmg is also good, able to pretty much one-shot fighters with those sweet 1000+dmg.
Replace the bombing area with just a ton of torpedo tubes and you got a monster of a bomber.

The lambda has crazy high damage for a light armored transport. No unlimited torpedoes but its cannons can one shot most enemy fighters

Well. They are stated in the read out book to have very strong sheilds akin to the Falcon. The film like all SW films just tend to ignore it. I mean, in a New hope X wings have sheild and are still shown being 1-shot by Tie fighters. Same with Ep 3 and the ARC fighter.

You gotta try Count Dooku's Solar Sailer. I don't think it has unlimited torpedoes (it might, but I can't remember) but it's primary fire is so goddamn fast, it's ridiculous. It absolutely melts health bars.

Millennium Falcon IV-VI doesn’t have infinite torpedoes but huge fire rate and does crazy damage with the kyber brick damage upgrade for ships

While unable to fire proton torpedoes I’d say the ETA 2 is pretty good. It’s real maneuverable and quite a heavy hitter with the rapid fire laser cannons. Just my opinion however
Damn the most OP ship I've noticed (or should I say the only one I've really bothered with) is the Rebel Corvette. I've been flying around shooting baddies with that and the Crest but now I wanna try that lol
