none of my home machines with Microsoft Defender crashed, only our business workstations and server VMs with CrowdStrike... but that was enough for several of us to waste all day Friday, off and on on the weekend and all day today un-f'ing our Windows machines so that our business could continue !
OK But what is the alternative? Each company builds and maintains its own software? It appeared like CrowdStrike, who did not test, AND then did NOT practice safe deployment. You test, test, test, and then deploy to small set, wait, deploy a small set, wait, repeat. That is like the standard practice, but seemed like none of those was done by CrowdStrike engineers.
Any changes that affect the kernel should have universal standards for production deployment. CrowdStrike have bad deployment hygiene and testing practices. Completely untrustworthy.
Vulnerabilities, multi millions investments on redundancies, staging platforms, multiclouds -Even certified experts from supplier and clients knows and talks about it, all still makes/miss checks/ grave mistakes. Looks like another 2nd line of defence is needed - could it be human + AI?
As retired IT guy, never push over any update without testing. 2. it is a good idea to have multiple operating systems on all workstations such as Linux and so on if the primary OS failing we can rely on the second OS. It appears this problem failed all Windows machines but not Linux or Macs
Its not mistake. Its a test or hack to show how lives can be brought to stand still. Why will a company harm themselves and their stocks by accepting it s a hack. Its cover up to call it a mistake
If Linux ran everything, it would eventually have a critical down moment like this too. Someone would drop the ball royally--in all likelihood, a for-profit central point of failure like this one. People get complacent. Companies cut corners for the bottom line. Murphy's Law applies to all systems and software.
@@joesterling4299 Exactly. Linux literally nearly had a world wide catastrophe which would be magnitudes bigger than this Crowdstrike one from a thankfully spotted backdoor just a few months ago. Nothing is safe and monopoly is never the answer.
Not everyone uses the same version of microsoft o.s. Many of us can not afford to upgrade their computers so we have to continue to use older tech. This outage will really hurt their stocks. Another reason why I am very particular in which software's I use.
"Resolving" involves ripping out ur boot disk from ur machine ,putting it into another for safe boot then removing a file and then putting the disk back in the original machine and praying to god it all works😂
🤣Now we all knew YOUR COMPANY is the biggest threat to global cyber security. Feb 3, 2024, CrowdStrike CEO: FBI warning shows serious nature of cyber threats from China.
How much good would your Apple computer do you at an airport with BSOD's everywhere? Or a bank? A supermarket? The list goes on. You're fine in your overpriced bubble at home, but if you needed to interact with the world yesterday, you were likely to run into trouble.
Wait wait wait wait wait…. was this a security update glitch to subscribers or an overall system update glitch to all MS computers? I haven’t used mine in a couple days, but it’s set to auto OS update. Is mine safe to operate now?
It only affected companies and individuals who use Crowdstrike Falcon software for cyber security. If you or the company that the computer belongs to are not paying for Falcon then you should be fine
Nothing to do with Microsoft. Why do you say that? It is CrowdStrike as you correctly point out.
They never check😂

One or more people getting fired over this for sure
I can envision a class-action suit against CrowdStrike. Negligence
You nailed it on the head. My kid works there and said that they layed off most of the testers and they would have caught it.
Each single downtime will cost the organization keep that in mind .

Glitches are the price of using modern technology. It's only preparation for WHEN (not if) things go wrong that matters.

The only guarantee in tech is that something will eventually go wrong. Our reliance on technology will come back to bite us.
Planned obsolescence is the name of the game.
Not a Microsoft outage, the media are clueless, it’s a Crowdstrike issue
Oh PLEASE...Deny, Deny, Deny, Reasses, Blame...Cover Story....meanwhile those in the know, know what REALLY happened????
Look at the put options the day before. Someone made billions
Crowdstrike leadership and management fault
1:53 Crowdstrike CEO, how can one both be "resolving and have resolved the issue"?
Be prepared and stay safe! Don’t put all your eggs in one basket 🧺 👍🏻

"Crowdstrike is a very respectable company."
"But that's a priceless Steinway!"

Wait til widows update is hacked and installs virus on billions of computers
istg you might be right
How reduce impact can be like this,... Impossible 😕 ...
Title is misleading and should be changed
Yep
The way everything is structured dude.
Why don't we have a backup system in Linux? Just a question
Southwest airlines in the US did not have issues. Why? They are running an old version of Windows instead of the latest and not so greatest!
🤦♂️ No they did not have Crowdstrike that's why.
I use the latest windows on 4 devices. I had no issues. I am not rich enough to pay for Crowdstrike Falcon software. LOL

Has anyone else considered that maybe A.I. tried something and they were able to stop it or not?!?!?
Wrong information. That's crowdstrike outage. Not Microsoft crowdstrike.

I do not know anyone in Ecuador that had an outage. It would appear that South America was minimally affected by the outage, if anyone at all. Why?

What about the satellites?

I have Apple computers and nothing happened to mine

@@joesterling4299 So 1 operating system controls most of everything? Scary.
Apple is proprietary garbage that requires obsequiousness to their limited tech. It’s the kiddie version of computing.
I have 2 desktops, 1 laptop and a windows tablet. None of them were affected. I don't use Crowdstrike falcon software
Imagine we we build in space!
One EMP and the cartoon ends…
It's very difficult to hack a paper and pencil.
bc of this apple sles will soar LONG LIVE MACOSX
