I absolutely adore your hair! I'm a stylist that loves to cut curly hair. One tip for you would be to always cut at the beginning or end of the 'C' shape. You can find the 'C' by keeping the hair in its most natural pattern rather than pulling it taught.
Damn, I have never felt empowered to cut my own hair before. This tutorial gave me confidence and my curls look fab. I say go for it, and if you mess it up then you can pay a professional to fix it bc you need a haircut either way! Thank you for this awesome tutorial. I am rocking that diamond cut to my first day of grad school!
Thank you for posting! My daughter has beautiful natural ringlets with a similar texture that you describe. Recently, she doesn’t want to put it up or braid it for school. I want to give her a cut that will help her embrace her beautiful, natural curls so she can wear her hair free and natural with pride!
I just did a big chop where my hairdresser brought it up to my shoulders. My curls were all one length and still not curling. I watched your video and got the courage to trim my own hair. Its taken me a few trimming sessions and about another inch of length but I am actually really happy and think I will start doing it myself from now on. Thanks for the inspo.
I watched this today and it inspired me to cut my curly hair. I then washed it, and omg it looked so jagged when it was wet. I didn't want to "fix" it while it was wet, so I've been avoiding the mirror all day. It just now dried and it looks soo good! 😁 I'm so happy right now. the shrinkage is real, people.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS TUTORIAL!!! I do not let "professionals" cut my hair because they NEVER DO IT RIGHT! I've been cutting my own for 6 years and its been growing well but I really want to try your cut! :) It's awesome!
Omg! You are so brave cutting your hair, It looks so BOMB
Thank you Ada ❤️
Hi and thanks soooo much for the tutorials I enjoy watching every one of them. I had been straightening my curly hair for a couple of years and have sadly reaped the disastrous consequences of that. Since watching your tutorials I have now cut my own hair..which I love but will love even more when it's starts to thicken again. Oh..... And thanks for baring all in these videos it gave me hope! X
Thank you yes there aren't many who understand how to cut curly hair.
I got stationed in Alaska due to the military & NO ONE here knows how to deal with my curls. I have the same exact hair as you. I started cutting my own hair & I definitely messed up a few times, thankfully you can't notice unless it's straightened lol but I'm going to try this method next. Thank you for this!
Aww Jasmine!! I can only imagine...I actually once lived in a small town where I didn't really have anyone that could do my hair so it is probably what made me start experimenting myself...I'm sure you will do a great job, it just takes a little trial and error at first :)
Ok...you've sold me on trying to do this to my own hair.
I've the same texture and weight as yours...mine is almost all gray and I've decided to no longer colour, but I'm no longer living in the US where I had some of the deadliest fine hairdressers taking care of my hair. Here in Australia it's nigh impossible to find a hairdresser who cuts black hair.
Thank you for the tutorials... here goes nothin', wish me luck!
Thank you so much for sharing your tips!! I've been thinking about cutting my own hair for a while now, it's so hard to find a stylist who actually knows what they're doing with curly hair, I haven't gotten mine cut in years for fear of another bad hair cut! Thanks again, your hair is absolutely stunning!! ❤❤
Great video. I have been holding off on my Deva cut for months - every time I go in, I feel like the stylist chopped too much off, after I spent months trying to grow it. It's always a bit of buyer's remorse. After seeing your video, I tried it at home, and so far am happy with the result. At least now it's trimmed, and the ends are healthier and more springy. It's hard to do the back by yourself though! I will eventually go back for another Deva cut, but now i can wait a while.
Thank you for this video...I have very similar hair and volume 8s an issue. I'm cheap so the thought if paying 120 for a deva cut makes my quarters scream 🤣. I'm gonna use your video as a guide for doing my own cut. Thank you!
Looks fantastic ! Nice to see someone with shorterr hair do this as well !
I really appreciate this, because I rarely find someone with the same texture as I do. And then as fine (seemingly thin) but this really encourages me to embrace and explore what we have😄
I finally tried cutting my own hair thanks to u. It’s only been a few hrs but so far I love it. thanks for posting
You make me WANT to cut my hair lol I know I need to but you make short hair look like the style to get. I've been straightening my hair once a month to cut it but I'm going to try it your way. Thank you for this video!!
Yay! Hope it helps!! 💞
Wow, your face reminds me so much of Scarlett Johansson! beautiful curls :)
beyondmystery it really does!!
As someone who used to dye/bleach her hair every 2 months... I can say taking a year off was the best thing ever!!
I forgot to mention you have a great technique and you do a fabulous job. I wouldn't let anyone touch it. Interesting that you use a pick. I was told not to use any combs at all. I have older hair than yourself. When I was somewhat older than you I could use micreek shampoo, a brush and it would ringlet and I'd call it a day. I was only 32 at the time. Now much different
You & your hair are so beautiful! It amazes me how you can cut your own hair!
Thank you! Lots of trial and error over the years :)
I've been cutting my own hair for at least 20 years now. When you have curly hair it's more forgiving when trying to make it even. I think you would look even better with a short short haircut keeping it long on top.
You do an excellent job on your hair! The short bangs are popping! TFS
Thank you!! Only downside is that the eyebrows must look great at all times haha xx
hi! i'm not a professional but i have really curly like yours and from the research i've done, cutting in the "c" of the curl keeps the curls shape the best. i've been trimming my own hair for awhile and it does seem to work well. There are youtube videos demonstrating this idk if youve seen them but just thought i would leave my two cents ;)
Thanks!! I'll check it out ❤️❤️
omg your hair is absolutely beautiful!
So cute. I cut mine yesterday.
Omg your makeup game is on point. I love it.
“The kitchen!” OMG I had to explain that to my man once. 🤣🤣
i really love this cut, my hair grows kinda like this naturally, where the top grows much slower and the bottom grows really fast, im gonna try this! wish me luck!
Good luck !! ❤️❤️
Love your hair. I normally cut my own hair as well. I had short bangs once and I loved it. May go back to it in the summer.
can't be worse than the cuts from hairdressers who swear they can cut curly hair, but can't! I'm going to try it.
Yay, the vid I been waiting for you to do! 🙌
How fortuitous it is I find you again!! First was your scrunch the crunch vid 💖 #curlygirls
I love the short bangs on you! The hair looks great! X
Thank you so much ;) xx
Beautiful! I’m Afro-Caribbean Latin from the Virgin Islands with 3 and 4 type hair. Where I live in Central New York State there are NO Ethnic hair stylists. Oh, they CLAIM to know how to cut my type of hair but after the last one made me look like a QTip, I gave up and have had to trim on my own. Problem now is that my hair is much, much longer but not enough to do the ponytail trim yet, so my back is getting poofy. Any advice? Thank you for your time and for sharing your journey.
What style are your glasses? I'm in love with them. 😍
I love the cut! I'm going on 4 yrs natural and I want to get bangs but I'm nervous about how it would look with the facial structure.. Bangs look good on me when I had straight hair so idk... Anyway great video! New subbie here 😌
If they look good straight I'm guessing they will be even cuter curly!!! Give it a shot ❤️❤️❤️
I LOVE your videos, I think my curl style is very similar to yours and your videos are so clear and helpful, thank you so much! Kat
Your hair is amazing and you are absolutely beautiful! Thank you for the video!!!
OMG your hair is really beautiful.
Beautiful as usual! we need a new hair regimen video pleaaaaase! Xxx
Your curls look amazing!!
Amazing . You and your hair are beautiful. I think you should start cutting curly hair as a I think you would be amazing and get loads of customers.
try shea moisture hair colour, it doesn't damage at all and they have all these different colours
I cut my hair based on a cut you did in a curly wig video, and I was OBSESSED with it. Fast forward to six months later and it's all grown out :( I love cutting my hair! #scissorhappy
Haha the scissor happy thing is soooo real lol glad the videos helped though!! 😁
love the glasses and hair. can you tell the make of the frames?
Thanks Jenna! They are by Prada, I got them over a year ago from a local eyewear store but I believe Nordstrom.com also sold them Xx
LOVE the cut love your channel :) where did you get those clear glasses from
Love it! Thanks for the tips. My hair is very similar to yours.
Those glasses are 🔥
Awesome, I've been doing this myself too; my hair has big loose curls though
I'm going to try the short bangs!
Yay!! This may sound crazy but I swear they make me look more awake sometimes lol #bonus 😂😂
Good job with cut. Diamond shape shag. Total 80s but retro too
I am loving this series! I will be getting out the shears this weekend to add some shorter layers on top. Right now I have the dreaded triangle shape...too full on the bottom, flat on top. Thanks for the inspiration 😊
hi! I LOVED this video and I have a question that I hope you respond and answer to. Do you pit anything in your hair to protect it before doing a dry cut? Do you put on some conditioner or coconut oil first? or do you simply cut as is? thank you!
I usually cut as it but I do love to cut it when the curls are popping a bit so it typically has some product in my hair already from styling a previous day
You are gorgeous! How can I cut my hair in the diamond shape myself?
Omg!! You’re gorgeous.. thanks for the tip I’m regrowing my hair will try this
You have the most perfect curls I have ever seen :O
Did you ever make a video talking about your problem area (kitchen) I was really looking forward to it:(
Not yet! But it's still coming soon :)
Hair twins! I love color too. No color for a year? I couldn't even.
i absolutely love your haircut! its so cute!!!!
Thank you Ruth! Xx
+MissCharmsie I have the same type of hair, like kinda wavy on top and most of the time looks flat on top too.. I don't know how to deal with it :( I want volume but I can't get it. Please help, do a video about it or something please
+Stephanie Celis ok will do!! :)
Omfg ur soo pretty i watched this bc im having layer problems bc i cut my hair when it was flatironed thx u!!!
Aww I have definitely done that before!! Hope this helps a bit ❤️
this is like the greatest video ever for my curls. thanks so much. I'm about to try this, huge change for me, i haven't find anyone that can work on my curls and when i ask they give me this weird answers and i'm like OHHH no, i'm not giving you my hair for no reason LOL thanks again, I have few youtube accounts not sure which one is this one but thanks :-) i'm also @mshortyscreations and @mredonda
So glad I found this. I can't afford a deva cut lol.
I want to cut my hair but I'm scare I mess it up! My hair is usually flat on top of my hair and I hate it. Even though my hair is on layers it still looks flat on top. I also want bangs
I cut my own layers for the same reason and they didn't curl up again
Smfh mad annoying
when cutting your hair blind when you straighten it how does it look ? i am all about curly hair but sometimes once in a couple months i would like to straighten it .
You are really pretty😊 I love your curly hair 😍💯
what colour is that ? love it
Also, what's the name of the lippie that you have on? It's gorgeous.☺😊
It's " kinda sexy " by Mac and it's kinda amazing!! Lol I pair it with a spice shade lip liner
Thank you ☺
How do you manage to cut the back and have it shaped properly?
Simply Gorgeous 😊
what products do you use in what order?! I love your hair and hate my own. I find product sometimes weighs my hair down and no products is a mess of frizz. please help!
wow, your hair is so beautiful, i almost thought you had a color job, the color is very pretty, I am the same way, i tried 1 year no color but i went 7 mnths i gave in. P S, i really enjoy yur videos
7 months is amazing!! I hope I can do it lol most of my old colour is in the front area, the bangs were light blonde but of course I dyed over it 🙈 slowly but surely!!
+MissCharmsie yeah you can just dont think about hair dye or look at it, it worked for me, it was hard though.
I haven't had color since 2004! I want to try color on my natural hair but I'm so afraid of damage 😟
+TGRAM7 my best advice, go to the best!! if you're going to do it, you want it done right the first time...they usually cost the most $$ but the results are worth more than the potential for damage lol I've finally learned! Ha
Curly hair cuts are so expensive! I might just do this during the quarintine 😳
Thanks so much for this tutorial!! Btw I'm loving those glasses! Are they prescription? Where did you get them?
Thanks! They are prescription Prada glasses from a couple years ago ☺️
you are gorgeous😍
thank you for sharing!
Love the style on you!
we are gonna try it on faroukjames hair
Can you show how you cut the hair that frames your face?
You're hair is so lovely. My hair is fine like yours at the top and spiral curls at the back and middle.☺😊 tfs
Thanks girl :) xx
Hi I saw your video and your reviews are positive it looks like the cut demonstrated came out good.
How ever, on presentation I
was a little concerned about the sissor's used? if I cut my hair the sissors I would use are Stainlees professional people are watching and learning from your hair cutting demostration. the sissors used in the video looked kinda like a pair basic el cheep-0 shears from walmart I would not use to cut my hair with just saying. think about it.
I cut my my own curly bangs a while ago and it looked so dumb, I think I made them too thick, I wish I'd found this video sooner.
Hi, enjoyed your video! I was wondering what brand is your glasses, I've been looking for glasses similar to that shape and I would really like to know. Thank you!
Thanks! This brand is Prada but I also wear a lot of frames from Coastal.com , I have a discount code " Charmsie20 " for 20% off , you may like their brand " Derek cardigan " they have great cateye styles too
Thanks!: D I appreciate it! I'm gonna look them up!
Im at 3 weeks natural and I feel so fugly atm my hair is just not working I'm holding out I love your cut I really need to find someone who does devacuts 😫
I have Hawaiian hair texture. Do u think this afro will wirk?
Hei you talked about the length of the layers: You said: I liked to keep shorter layers towards the top of my hair. That means that the top part of your hair is longer that the lower part of you hair. I want to be sure I understand right, since English is not my mother language.
No. The top part is shorter. ;-)
That means the top part is shorter than the bottom
You have a stunning face AND stunning hair! I'll definitely think about these tips--poor grad student trying to save money on my hair here :P
I totally understand!! Priorities ☺️ glad you enjoyed the video!
OK. so my hair is literraly along all the way around and when it comes to the center , its wayyyyyy shorter. How can I go about trimming my hair without going too cray?
Do you do anything to your hair when you sleep so it looks manageable the next day?
try the pineapple method using elastic
Im starting my hair journey too. Im 12 so I will start early.
Thanks for the tutorial.
you do a really good job :-)
Amazing!
Updated curlys hair routine please!
I agree!! Lol coming soon ;)
i have natural curly hair I wish my hair looked curly like yours
You are NOT lying when you say the pick is the bees knees because I don't like a lot of hairspray or gummy styles. The pick is a root lifter and bulk maker...who knew. Sorry for the crazy terminology but you get it!
LOVEE UR HAIRR
I am at 5 months without hair color and I'm feeling fidgety for a new color, but I think it is mainly because my current natural color box dye has faded to an ugly ash blonde in a lot of sections, and it is so dull and uneven that I want to cover it with something vibrant. 😢
I totally understand lol I've definitely been there!! If you're trying to avoid the dye but you're so bored of the colour, perhaps try a protective style like braids etc. to switch things up in the meantime, a fresh shape to your hair can do wonders as well :)
your hair is so bomb. I need to try this. I need some bangs in my life too. lol 👍
Thanks Amanda!! I'm definitely team bangs! Lol I love them for volume :)
Thank you for posting.
