    This is not a remake of the first film, which the author hated so much for deviating from his story that he forbade it from ever being remade again as long as he was alive. This film is an adaptation of the book, which Dahl's family approved of every step of the way. It is much truer to the book.

      Right!? You hear people always bxxxx and moan all the time about books not being faithful to the source material, and when it is... then it's not considered as good as the original. Sorta like the Wizard of Oz... Great movie, but so far off from the book. Same thing will happen with the upcoming Wicked - family friendly, where as the book is not something you would let a child touch. My only disappointment was it ended in a way where they couldn't do the sequel, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, which I found more enjoyable than the first book.

    I love the book, the original movie and this one… all for different reasons. This one to me felt a lot more like the book. I wish the author was still alive to see it, I would love to hear his take on it, he had a lot of creative differences with the one made in the 70s, and ended up extremely disliking the finished product.

      Could you blame him?
      Asking to use your IP to make a glorified candy commercial, you still decide to go through with it and do a screenwriting for, just for the studio to go behind your back, completely change 90% of your story, cast the worst persons for certain roles( no disrespect to them), and has the audacity to credit you as screenwriter.

      @robbiewalker2831 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@tavarereacts exactly, because there’s a major contrast between the two. In fact, this reimagining was made, because Roald Dahl (the author of the book) despised the 1970s film whole heartedly, as it had too many deviations from the book. He hated it all; the Slugworth subplot that goes nowhere, the kids that are only reserved by one trait rather than be 3-dimensionally spoiled, and yes, he even hated Gene Wilder as Wonka, as back then he wanted Soupy Sales to be Wonka... you heard right, Roald Dahl wanted the voice of Saturday Supercade's Donkey Kong as Willy Wonka.

    • @robbiewalker2831
      @robbiewalker2831 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@tavarereacts It’s not a remake of the 1970s film (since both films have a major contrast), but it would be a reimagining if both films use the same source. Also, the Chocolate Factory in the Tim Burton film is much grander in scale when contrasting with the old much smaller looking one. Looks are deceiving, but I feel the New Chocolate Factory is like a Cathedral of Confectionery Genius. Also, yes, pre-introvert Johnny Depp Wonka had such beautiful colors, but he stopped wearing it at the cost of his sanity. Also, Grandpa George is not wrong: if you’re offered a once-in-a-lifetime deal, would you be giving it up for common things?

    Of note is that this isn't really a reboot. This more like another adaptation of the same work. Burton had encouraged the writers to not watch the first movie during production (the only things I think this shares with the first movie are the brats' ethnicities, having one parent per child, and mentioning a taffy puller instead of a bubble gum stretcher...which to be honest makes more sense since you can't streth non chewed gum)

    I saw a short video saying it's thanks to Johnny Depp if Freddie Highmore could have the role of Charlie. Johnny Depp was so impressed by his acting in " Finding Neverland " that ha asked to Tim Burton to auditionned him.
    Also, if you watch a lot of Tim Burton's movie, you'll see that Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter are his favorite actors.

    This is closer to the book than Gene's version. When Roald Dahl submitted his screenplay for Gene's version, studio executives pretty much ripped it apart, and put their vision on it. Roald was so upset, that for the rest of his life, he never slowed his books to be adapted.

    fun fact this movie/version is actually more faithful to the original source material (book). and another "fun" fact, Roald Dahl, the author of the original book and story, hated that first movie so much that he forbade the making of new Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movies as long as he was alive. the reason for this anger was that some of the characters behaved very differently from his book and the factory was not to his liking either. and so on. + when they made this movie they purposely didn't watch / rewatch that first movie and the music had to be different too. i have nothing against the first movie but i grew up with this version myself. Great Video !

  • @Lucilfer1375

    This movie is not a Remake of the previous version, is a readaptation of the book. In the book Willy is supposed to be more like Johnny's version actually, the way he awkwardly interacts with others and the excetrentic way of being. Also the Oompa Loompas are suppose to look all exactly the same, like clones, that's why they used the same actor in Burton's version. If you liked the og movie and this one I personally recommend that you read the book. The author hated the og movie and the cast for Wonka; he thought it had nothing to do with his idea of Wonka. I enjoyed your reaction and laughed a lot hahaha.

  • @22Tesla
    @22Tesla 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    This film is THE BEST. I love the first film, but this one is peak perfection.
    Dahl actually HATED the first movie as it wasn't what he wanted for a movie, and thus be became very tight fisted over any adaptations of his books. This movie was made with a lot of input from his daughter Lisey, who says that if Dahl were alive, he would have loved this movie for it's faithfulness. Even the additional stuff of Wonka's past she approved of.
    It's strange really: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is loved by many people, but is far from faithful to the source material. Yet this movie, made faithfully to the original author's book is seen as the "too dark, too gritty remake" when it's anything but. It's the 2005 adaptation, not a remake of the 1970's original.
    Interesting Trivia: in the nut room, Burton had them train squirrels for that part from shelling nuts to swarming the actress, and more, rarely using CGI with few exceptions when it was needed clearly.
