  • I've put a TON of games (200+) on my current Phaze 2 that I've been using a ton of over the last year, so I thought I'd drill a fresh one and see how they compared!

    You are completely correct about ball reaction videos w/ brand new balls being at least a bit misleading, and I appreciate greatly you doing old vs. new vids like this.
    I HAVEN'T EVEN EVER OWNED A STORM BALL but your videos provide insight about balls in general that I just can't seem to find anywhere else. In fact, your breakdowns are pushing me to consider a switch to the Storm/Roto family. Well, that and their amazing lineup.
    I wish I knew someone that ran through each of the balls in the Hammer/EBI lineup (I'm a Hammer guy, for now), but I'm sure this isn't exactly the least time consuming thing to do.
    As a relatively new bowler who's bought a number of different balls but is just getting to the point of understanding what I'm looking for, I wanna thank you for taking the time to share what you see and feel. It's helping me immensely.

    Thanks, I got a phaze 2 about 3 weeks ago and since I'm working to perfect my shots ( I've only been bowling for a year almost to the day) and 2 handed for about 5 months so I have probably almost 200 games already and its held up really good. My first ball after probably 500 games barely hooked and the cover separated from the cover. Definitely sticking with storm for the rest of my Tim's bowling

    This looks like a must have tournament ball! Love the way you did this review. Glad it holds up over many games. Probably too much cover for league bowling but I'm definitely interested.

    • @LukeRosdahl
      @LukeRosdahl  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah if you're a tournament bowler that throws Storm, you have a Phaze 2, it's just kind of a necessary reaction, that's why it's been around so long. Once you get the cover broken in, you CAN throw it in league, but other stuff looks better and saving this one for use in tournaments will get more life and more EFFECTIVE use out of it.

      @@LukeRosdahl appreciate the reply. I think that phase 4 would be better suited for house. I used to have a hyroad pearl and loved in on most league shots. That R2s cover was great for me. Weak on misses in the oil plenty of recovery on misses right.

    I just got mine last week and good lord this thing hooks a ton. I bowl no thumb one hand so I naturally have a lot of hook. My first throw actually hooked into the gutter, on a fresh house shot. I can’t wait to get some games on it to tame this thing down! My gut feeling is that after maybe 30 games it will tame down into something extremely usable on my house shot.

    Luke you did it again new vs old you brought out some very good points. 10-15 games on the ball is a good rule of thumb to really see what the ball is capable of doing after a track has been established on the ball. Some people when they get a new ball and maybe throw it maybe six to eight games don't like it and then they are ready to give a ball away or say the ball is no good. They have not really gave the ball a chance.

    That is one thing about the storm covers. I have never seen a cover die. I have an international release World Domination I bought in 2008. I threw it up until 2017 well over 900 games on it (90 games a year for 10 years and keep in mind I had other pieces and was bowling 3 leagues so 90 games a year isn't all that high). It was the original formula R2S Pearl and man do I love that ball. I can still throw it if I wanted to throw no thumb, but as I get older it is becoming harder to do so, hence the move to sarge easter.
    I can't say the same for other equipment I have thrown. I had Hammer die after about 1 year (even a bath with hot water and Dawn soap and then just a hot water rinse let it sit for 4 to 5 days and it still doesn't do anything. Even after detox and resurfacing.

    Storms 3000 grit finish is listed as being 500grit on 4 sides for 30secs firm followed by 3000 on 4 sides for 10secs light. So the surface on the new ball is still way more then the finish used on the old ball

    • @LukeRosdahl
      @LukeRosdahl  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LukeRosdahl try 500/3000 as Storm suggested. Im going to say its way more then what you tried. Obviously you like the finish you used in the video vs the ob finish. Just saying Storm is one of the only ones I know that give you the info for how to try and get their various finishes. Like 1500 polish. No one would guess that means 500/1000/2000/4000/polish. Then you have people literally do 1500 and polish and not understand why its so different. Enjoyed the videos as always

      @@erici9025 Fair point. Normally I find a fresh 1000 pad followed by a slightly used 2000 by hand gets me close, 500 is too strong of an undergrit by hand. If I'd have gone 500-3000 on a spinner it would have been different, but I didn't have access to one when I was filming.
