I don’t typically like country or anything similar but I love the sound of a banjo a lot
I’ve been listening to and playing blues and rock nearly all my life. I’ll turn 40 this year. Always thought of banjo as a bluegrass instrument and I don’t care for bluegrass though I appreciate the skill involved. Bluegrass is to country/folk what metal is to rock. Lots of shredding. Not much soul. But THIS has SOUL! I will never speak ill of the banjo again. Love your music! Subbed!

Dunno how i found this video, but my baby is tripping out in love as we watch.... i could never come close to your picking, but i guitar bluegrass in my garage, girl i got heard it in the womb for at least 8 months. When I was a boy I recall Jerry Lee on Sun rolling out his take on “Deep Ellum Blues”, which included the wonderful, borrowed line: “ Now when you go down in Deep Ellum, put yo’ money in your shoes, cuz the women in Deep Ellum got those, Deep Ellum blues!!! I’ve been stacking long green in my boots ever since. Proper advice. My bub just introduced this channel to me. Solid biz. Best of luck

Your playing reminds me of so many of the banjo greats a lot of the newer oldtime musicians. seem to try to hard but for you it just comes natural this is the sound I look for when listening to oldtime music your defiently the real deal Clifton thanks for keeping real oldtime music alive

I love it, my voice is quite like yours only I play the drums, not near as intricate a talent as the banjo I will concede, but I thought you should know my family and I support you through and through. Black bottom blues seems to be a variant off the same tree as our Deep Ellum blues in Texas, with just about the same lyrics and a similar tune

Ive been wanting to learn banjo but couldn't figure out what sort of styles of songs i wanted to play. I'm glad i found this video, this seems to be the sort of stuff id like to play. No idea how im going to get the rhythm down though. Thanks for posting this.

I,m waiting on a W.T. B. Tonk Bros. "Sterling" built about 1890 38 lug. Very similar to yours. It,s coming from Germany so I,m guessing it it hasn't cleared customs yet. It's set up with Nylgut strings. I've earmarked this site for inspiration and tutoring. Thank's ! Tom in Arizona

Amazing stuff here Clifton. Watched it all and enjoyed it very much.
The difference between American fiddle tunes and the celtic, is that many if the Irish / Scottish tunes is that many of the celtic tunes are so old that no one remembers the words.Also you have to consider that in the bible belt dancing was basically forbidden, so dance music served a much different purpose than in the New England states.
Thank you for being old-time in this futuristic dypstopia we seem to dwell in.

Would have been great if whoever would have waited to put away the groceries, hang pictures and move the furniture around until you were done recording this amazing set! Hey Clifton..I'm not sure if you read comments on posts this old, but did you know that "Drunkard's Lone Child" was originally a Temperance hymn?
I figured it was! "I'm Dying, Mother" is another great one from that genre.
