  • The video shows the celebration of the Zangarrón de Montamarta on the 6th of January after his dressing, a laborious and handmade rite. On the 1st of January, the festivity took place in exactly the same way with another young man. The masked man with his whipping attribute, a "purridera" (trident), goes around the houses of the village asking for “aguinaldo” (Christmas bonuses). He then goes to the hermitage of Nuestra Señora del Castillo where he continues to ask for the "aguinaldo" and responds to different provocations in a playful atmosphere. He is accompanied by the quintos and quintas who wear capes and carry a cockade with coloured ribbons. El Zangarron makes a veneration to the authorities before entering Epiphany Mass. When everyone enters the church, he remains outside until the moment of communion, when he lights two “obladas” (bread) with the “purridera” and leaves the church. Mass continues with the young masked man outside.
