🚩 Basil II Playlist: • Basil II, the Bulgar S...
🚩 After his debacle at the Gates of Trajan, Basil has come into his own over the years. He defended Constantinople and had successfully managed the civil war in Anatolia, the Fatimid invasion in the east, and had made inroads into Bulgaria as well.
🚩 I work with History Rhymes / @historyrhymes1701 on this series and am very happy with how it's shaping up. We have 5 episodes completed and another 2 in the making. The 7 episodes in total will document the fascinating rule of Basil II and cover some of the key battles during his reign.

Basil II, certainly received a very rigorous and exhaustive training in the art of war, during his early years as emperor experiencing victory and defeat in equal measure. Learning the value of speed and surprise, methodical conquest and having a formidable savage force of dedicated shock troops to help win his future victories that would gain him the title of Bulgar Slayer.

Emperor Basil II started as an inexperienced leader but overcame dangerous odds to battle the treacherous provincial nobility and disloyal military commanders; he checked and pushed back the advancing Muslim Fatimids, defeated and absorbed the formidable Bulgarians. If not enough, the emperor conquered Armenia and folded down the Georgians…. Able administrator and superb commander of the Roman Army, attracted the Kievan Rus to Christianity and under the Eastern Roman cultural influence. Alas, the last of the greatest emperors of Rome of the East!

history is the ultimate writer, byzantine history as it is is hard to market but give it the game of thrones treatment, replace the historical figures with fictional ones and it becomes very palatable for modern audiences, the intrigue, the drama, it al just works

Great video thoroughly educative and entertaining, I'm currently reviewing the History of China so I appreciate that minor footnote about the diplomatic ties between the Fatimids and the Song Dynasty. The Arabs in China is always a fascinating point of history.

I just recently watched a video form Kings and Generals from this time period. Its really gained traction but I first heard of John I Tzimiskes from the channel Thersites the Historian. Love the era.

Now that might just be me but I find it funny how the rebels banners are lined with a red/black flag just like the rebels in EU4, keep up the good work. 👍
