I remember this being one of the first programmes to come out of TVS when they launched and loved it as a kid. The first thing I remember Biggins being in. I didnt realise that Gillian Taylforth was on there too... long before she became Kathy Beale in Eastenders

Effectively the Runaround production team given some cash and free of the constraints of Southern. Ironically despite the 1982 copyright dates, much of the first series of On Safari was recorded in 1981 while the studios were still owned by Southern!

Explains why it looks all washed out. Runaround always had that same look. Guess it was the camera tech at the time.

@@Thebustermann At that time it would have still been the original colour cameras from the colour switch on. But also each ITV company had their own colour matrix. Some opted (like the BBC) to ensure skin tones were reproduced accurately above all else. Some (like IMO Granada) opted to go for COLOUR with garish greens. From memory Southern didn't go for the more popular EMI 2001 cameras either as used at the liked for the Beeb and Thames. These beasts had a service life that no camera since will ever surpass, finally being retired from Eastenders in 1991, a service life of over 20 years!

My recollection of kids' programmes prior to about 1984 is pretty patchy, but this is one I can just recall, especially the catchphrase.
