Have you tried laundry stripping and if so, did it work for you as well as it did for me? Where did you first hear about laundry stripping? It's been around for ages as a technique, so I'm glad I took the plunge and finally tried it! 💕
I’ve seen one other video about laundry stripping but I’ve never tried it. I wonder why Borax is a no-go in the UK. I know European countries are stricter on the chemicals/ingredients that they allow to be sold or put in products so it would be interesting to know if it has anything to do with that...a little off topic but that’s kinda how my brain works. 😆
@@everydaydeandablog I was so curious to see what the hype was about and was pretty skeptical, but it does work. I still can't believe how soft my towels are, honestly, I will probably do my towels every 2-3 months now! As for your other question... girl.. lol I spent *hours* googling trying to figure out why Borax is not available in the UK. I really can't figure it out (or am finding conflicting information, at best). So... for now this will have to remain a mystery lol
ok so im totally gonna try this on my boyfriends pillow that he hasnt washed ever since he was 13 ( hes 21) I CANNOT sleep next to it anymore so with his permission im stripping it. I had no clue how to do this in the uk so thank you so much , you gained a sub!
Yes this is PERFECT for something like that it will refresh his pillow for sure!!! Just don’t forget to run it through the washing machine on a spin and rinse cycle. I hope it works for you as well as it did for us 😀💕
Hi, great vid, my mum does this soaking in the washing machine by setting it in the desired wash setting, letting the washing machine to fill up with wayer and then stops/pauses the washing machine and leaves overnight. Then starts it up again in the morning. Thought of sharing as might help your back 😎
🤯 this is genius!!! I have been trying to figure out how to “strip” my towels while I’m in an apartment without a bathtub, so this is the perfect solution. If it works as well as the bathtub method and the towels come out just as fluffy then I’ll do another video 😅
I have just heard about laundry stripping and was searching for someone from the uk who’s done it because I was thinking wtf is borax lol. I’m so glad it works without it. Thank you so much for this video. I’m new to your channel but subscribing for sure 🤗
Haha I am originally from the US so I'm familiar with Borax but even the name "borax" sounds like some crazy chemical or poison to me 😬 I've never done this process using anything other than liquid laundry detergent + soda crystals but honestly it works well without anything else so I'm not even going to try to find a borax substitute 🤷🏽♀️ And yay thank you for subscribing! Welcome ☺️
Yeh same here! Found out that " Borax was banned in the UK and Europe in 2010 because it was deemed a "substance of very high concern". This was due to studies that suggested borax may be toxic to reproductive health" 😅
Thank you for this I am in the U.S. and I am allergic to borax so was trying to find someone who's done it without the borax . So happy that I found your video
Thank you for your comment! Did you end up trying it and did it work for you? I am going to try to use this technique to "strip" my duvet soon so I hope it works as well with that as it did for my towels!
Ah that's fantastic I'm so glad it worked for you too! I've never used Almat stain remover though - I will see if they have it in the shop near me and will give it a try - thank you for the tip 😀
@@veronicataylorsfp it’s really good product to use and they have the oxygen white. Also very good for stripping whites only. To think l was gonna ditch my sheets. New lease of life given to them 😊👍🏾
@@sdeee3842 My whites have gotten super grey and just old looking recently - I'm about to try this Almat stain remover to see if it helps to brighten them up. Thank you for the tip!!
You can definitely use baking soda for laundry but it has more of a deodorizing effect than stain removal. If you want to strip laundry I think you will get better stain removal with soda crystals but I have found many resources online that also use baking soda for laundry stripping so I think it is worth a try. I haven’t done it using baking soda myself though but I have used baking soda in doing regular laundry in the machine before and it works great!
Cleaning effectiveness depends on time, temperature, agitation, and concentration of cleaning agents. Does this method optimize them all? Not really. Right, borax isn’t needed. It’s just another alkaline water softener. You already use one, soda crystals, (sodium carbonate, washing soda). Right, borax substitute is just sodium sesquicarbonate, a mixed salt of sodium bicarbonate and sodium carbonate. Its name is intended to fool gullible consumers.
Yep, totally agree - would not consider this an "optimized" process at all! But it does have benefits. After following the method I did in this video, I've found it mainly helps to get my clothes (especially towels) super fluffy once they're rinsed and dried, so for me it's worth the time and effort a few times a year. Like I mentioned in the video, this is definitely not an "everyday" method but from time to time? Totally!
It is SO worth trying it out!!! I’m going to do it again but next time on clothes that could use a boost, like my workout gear. They’re going to come out smelling amazing 😍
Ariel is just a standard laundry detergent here, but if I were in the US I would use Tide or Gain, or any other good liquid laundry detergent. But Tide and Gain smell the best so I'd probably go for one of those!!
Ooh really!? The ant-killer I see at Asda doesn't have borax in it. What's the name of the product so I can check it out? I searched for ages to find actual Borax in the UK and everything I read online says that it was banned in the UK and the EU in 2010!! Only borax substitute is still available, but it's not the same chemical compound and doesn't really do the same thing for the purposes of laundry stripping.
@@veronicataylorsfp I just had a look on the website and can't find it. It was in a white bottle with black writing on it. The only reason I new it had borax in it was because my cat ate it 🥺 he survived but he was in intensive care for 4 days. That was 3 years ago. Now I'm looking it looks like it was banned in 2010 but still aloud in ant killer up until 2018. I do remember a poisonous substance report had to be put in but not sure why. It must have been taken off the shelves not long after my cat ate it. Brilliant timing from my cat 🙈
@@veronicataylorsfp i have to get a few things together before I do it, but I will definitely let you know how it goes sweety, once I make time to get it done baby.👍😊

I'm also completely puzzled as to why borax is a verboten chemical. As far as chemicals go, it seems like there's very little evidence for toxicity...

Used soda crystals Almat stain remover and Lidl non bio! Mixed lights and whites. Came out perfect 👌🏾

Borax is best if you have bugs, roaches etc I heard! You may have to use it by itself or with another detergent
I kept hearing about laundry stripping but had no idea what it was!! New subscriber here😊
Aw thank you for subbing! Laundry stripping is really useful especially if you want to make your clothes super soft and fluffy 😍
You should be able to buy borax in poundstrecher or pound land and most cheap shops like them
From what I’ve found that is borax substitute not borax, which isn’t the same.
Do you think that baking soda would work instead of soda crystals? That’s all I have

How often should I laundry strip?
I would do it twice a year on towels and bedding, and every 3 months on clothes that get a lot of build-up (like gym clothes for example).
What is the US equivalent of the Ariel product ?
Ariel is just a standard laundry detergent here, but if I were in the US I would use Tide or Gain, or any other good liquid laundry detergent. But Tide and Gain smell the best so I'd probably go for one of those!!

Definitely!! I'm about to do another experiment, doing the same method but just with laundry detergent, to see if it works the same...!! 🤓

I need a hack for getting ink out of my daughters clothes, 😫😫 hopefully this will at least lighten the ink marks.
I’ve always heard that rubbing alcohol takes ballpoint pen ink stains out but I haven’t tried it myself. Could be worth a try though! ☺️
Use hairspray!
Nice
Thank you ☺️
Can u not just use "Vanish oxi action"??
Hot water will strip colored clothes of their color. It's OK to use cold water with them.
