    thank you for this video, very insigtful. I am tracing my family history and the 1851 census has them living at Loch Lee, however there is no place called that. Realising that the loch is a reservoir, I wonder whether there was a village which was displaced with the reservoir.

      There is an ancient graveyard on the shore of the dam so I believe there could of been more there originally now covered when the water got deeper. I could check the graveyard for your ancestors surname if you wanted. Also another graveyard nearby there. What would their surname be?

      I've been looking through the fabulous online maps on the National Library of Scotland website and it appears the loch hasn't grown much in size since before the dam. My surname is Matthew, I think it is common to the area of Lochlee/Brechin@@BKR
