I remember how the tagline in the commercial for the game was "you are a punk" then when I got it for Christmas I was ecstatic and told my parents, "awesome, now I can be a punk" and they were like "uhhhh okay?" 😂
Both THUG and THUG2 hold a special place in my heart. With THUG I possibly wouldn’t have found Refused or continued to listen to Bad Religion. THUG2 got me into Johnny Cash, so a real polar opposite. THUG2 feeling like Jackass the Game is very of it’s time. Jackass and Viva La Bam were massive so it made sense for them to use it’s popularity. But playing it years later would seem odd with that bandwagon well and truly left the station.
The personal experiences of people who played games like these are a huge reason why i love videos like these. Makes me feel connected knowing the stories and memories people made with these games are close to mine.
Gameplay wise Underground 1/2 and American Wasteland are sooo much fun and the best in the whole series. Makes me really sad we'll probably never get remakes.
Love everyone's comments in here about their music taste being shaped by these games, it's always a big part when I see videos about the THPS series or anything from around that era tbh. These videos are so nice to watch and can tell you're just as much of a extreme sports game nerd like the rest of us. Keep em coming!
i might sound completely contrarian, but i straight up muted the whole soundtrack when i was playing thug2 back then, both in remix and the pc port. i was the type of guy to listen to music seperately from the game. skating to deftones just hits
Underground 2 was my favourite tony hawk game because of the maps . It still holds up to this day. I have been playing american wasteland recently never played it when I was young, but I will go back to Underground when I'm done . Love the videos
Just by going off the background music, you have a good music taste with the song choice from TH you are using. You have been using some of my favourite bands!
THUG was the peak of the series! I'm glad I'm not the only one that likes the San Diego level. It's my favorite because I grew up in San Diego and have skated at some of those spots in real life.
Tony Hawk's Underground was one of my favourite games as a kid, I remember replaying a bunch of the games back in 2019 for nostalgia's sake and realizing I still had all the muscle memory from when I was a kid, all coming from Underground 1 and Pro Skater 2 and 3. They don't make em like this anymore
Hey man been binging all ur videos and as a younger guy who didn’t get to grow up playing these games, it’s been a really fun look into these older games I woulda never touched. Recently played a few like harmonics and really enjoyed them. Thug 1 is the first game I’ve played that you’ve reviewed and I really felt like you did a great job encapsulating a lot of the emotions I had playing the game. Love the vids bro
THUG is home to my second favorite level of the whole series, that being Slam City Jam (no bias, despite being Canadian lol) Only beat by Skater Island from THPS3, which is fitting given THPS3 is my favorite TH game and THUG is my second favorite TH game
I was 14 when THUG came out and I was a huge THPS fan before. I don't think I will ever be as hyped for a game as I was for THUG. It's my favorite Tony Hawk game and in my top 5 favorite games of all time. Its just such a special game to me. THUG 2 was good though. I like it alot. Its the basis for THUGPRO and I really liked Viva La Bam/Jackass when it came out. Combining both of those was so cool for my teenage self when it came out. THPS is still my favorite game series. I still play THUGPRO and THPS1+2 these days.
I remember getting THUG 2 during a trip in California, in 2005 surprisingly not even knowing the game existed in the first place (despite being a huge tony hawk fan) then me and my brother started playing it at my aunt's house while over there. I remember my mom being appalled when Paulie called me a bitch after kicking me in the leg 😂. Ahhh, good times. I played the story multiple times
I loved both these. To be honest, THUG blew my mind when it came out, THPS 4 did, too, but I think these two were my favourites. I have to pick THUG 1 but skate ranch in 2 was really awesome.
I spent hours playing hide and seek with my friends in thug2 lol you find a spot get off your skateboard and face the wall or the corner so they cant tell from your side of the screen where you are, and the story and characters maps in thug 2 were just excellent in 2006. Never did play thug 1 though
Having played THUG2 as it came out when i was the exact age and immaturity it were made for, i agree with your take that THUG2 is painfully lifeless. I still played the hell out of it because of course I did, it's the gameplay peak of the series, but i definitely got my fill of crass humor for crass humor's sake for the rest of my life during that time. I know i'm in the minority, but I actually don't care for THUGPRO that much. If I want to play a Tony Hawk game for the sake of playing a Tony Hawk game, i gravitate to some version of THPS2 both because it was the first one i played and because i prefer the feel of those physics when playing casually.
the Jackass game itself is pretty good too imo. I played the PSP port in highschool and it even let you mix and record gameplay footage. the PS2 original version doesn't have that feature though
I love THPS 1-4 to death but to me these 2 and American Wasteland is the total absolute pinnacle of the entire series gameplay wise (haven't played Project 8 or Proving Grounds yet) I wish THUG 1 at least would get a remake or at least a remaster with some QoL features added someday
Project 8 and Proving Grounds have two versions. I recommend the old gen versions in both cases. Though if you want a true open world you can play the new gen versions but it's going to be a buggy mess no matter what. I'd even say just skip proving grounds both ways
@11:14 How is sticker slap another good thing to have? It's does the same thing as the wallplant except it leaves a decal behind. They should've just had wallplants leave a decal behind instead instead making another mechanic that's identical. Also it being mapped to X means you can't buffer ollie when airbourne.
THUG 1 is one of my favorite games of all time, i used to be extremely scared of the Neversoft "monster in the sewers" logo and the Evil Tiki. THUG 2 is just alright to me honestly. The gameplay is fantastic but the story hasn't held up well
@@RedBerylFTW onto American Wasteland when you next do a Tony Hawk game I guess, a game I like but have mixed feelings about concerning the practically mandatory BMX missions
I feel this is when the game reached its peak when it comes to mechanics. 1st introduced a great engine. 2nd gave us manuals. 3rd gave us reverts. 4th gave us spine transfers, quick turn, double/triple tap moves and flatland tricks, leveling out. Thug gave us acid drops, wall plants and getting off the board to add to the combos. After that I don’t feel like any of the following games added anything that’s truly essential to gameplay And I’d say the best parts of thug 2 is the great engine they’ve built on and classic mode. The story was terrible, the missions were meh and those driving gimmicks were easily forgettable and they barely made maps in comparison to all the previous games.
Are you going to review Disneys Extreme Skateboarding? It's just a THPS4 reskin with questionable commercials in the game, but I have very fond memories of the game especially because the gameplay is really solid which is no surprise as it's basically THPS4 lite.
@@RedBerylFTW yep, the base engine is from THPS4, although a bit stripped down to make it easier for kids. Still very solid. Everything else I won't spoil if you never played it.
Didn't know THUG 2 PC had widescreen. Thug 1 was pcsx2 16:9 3x native res. Thug pro is already 1080p. This is the first time somebody has said something about the stretching, so I'll remember that for the future.
tbh as soon as Bam Magera and his crew was involved... it was a no go for me. I hated the show (Jackass) back then and all the stupid stuff they did (old man i know... i started with THPS1 and loved 2 played a little bit of 3)

You weren't a punk, you were a THUG lol
Almost 20 years later and I still have a deep hatred for Eric
We haven't seen the last of him yet either
*Raises finger in the air slowly*
“I think thug 2 is better.
But great video keep up the great work ❤”
Loved THUG1 as a kid, and as an adult, I still do

Even more odd after having grown up with Jackass the game before I played through THUG 2
The personal experiences of people who played games like these are a huge reason why i love videos like these. Makes me feel connected knowing the stories and memories people made with these games are close to mine.
That's been the coolest part for me. The comments where people tell their own stories are all really interesting
Gameplay wise Underground 1/2 and American Wasteland are sooo much fun and the best in the whole series.
Makes me really sad we'll probably never get remakes.
New leadership, new hope. Tony Hawk's vert alert also gives me a lot of hope.
honestly, you're right that THUG had 10-11 year-old me wanting to skate.

They nailed the music every time

Thanks to you I'm re playing Tony Hawk, so much fun. I just reached Tony Hawk 4 so T.H.U.G. is around the corner. 🤗☀️❤️
Got one for ya, “Freestyle Metal X” on the ps2. Midway (i think) Freestyle motocross game features some metal mulisha guys
I'll definitely check it out

I loved THUG so much as a Kid... when THUG2 came out, I actually was disappointed for the first time with the Tony Hawk Games...

Was that Dropkick Murphys in the background

Sticker slap is a compromise. You lose angle and height but keep more speed. Since the maps are pretty large, that extra speed can come in handy.
I like your videos
thank you 🍻
ngl I thought I thought Boston + Barcelona made for a very strong opening act

Do backyard skateboarding
You forgot to set the game to widescreen. Why do people not see this? If you play in 4:3, just have bars left and right. Don't stretch it.

@@RedBerylFTW afaik it has widescreen. Maybe only with the community launcher nowadays because of incompatibility.
If thug was 1080p in pixels you still have to set the game to widescreen in the options in the console versions.
The games have a widescreen toggle since THPS4. And THPS3-PC can be made widescreen afaik.
what about thug2remix?
