    I have a couple from Remington, not the gun maker. This company went from the 1920s to early 1950s. They had some what most would call copies of the Marbles. One of the things that spread the Remingtons is they were sold in PXs and NEX stores on bases. At the start of WW2 with no designated military knife these flew off the shelves as well as in any stores that had hunting knives. I listened to an interview of a British soldier that had one he carried through the war.

      Awesome. I’m familiar with Remington Knives that -Pal’ Cutlery bought the rights and tooling and produced knives for a Season 👍

    Marble used leather stacking before William Scagel ?

    • @CuttingEdgetools
      @CuttingEdgetools  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Thanks for sharing. From what i can gather Scagel ‘ the pioneer Knife maker first started seriously crafting knives around 1917’ . By 1920 he was selling them . Scagel’ did craft and pioneered stacked handles of various materials combining leather in some. Marble’s first factory was built in 1898’. Not exactly sure when his factory started stacking leather handled hunting knives-but the Marbles Catalog photos in the Levin’ Guide book are from 1908’ ! Stacked leather handles are in that 1908’ catalog. Interesting that Scagel’ and Marble’ were both from Michigan. No doubt there must have been some cross influences. That’s worth looking into. Scagel knives are so scarce on the Market . Likely never mass produced. Most of those seem custom styled. Gonna dig into that history more

    Very cool, never knew marbles patented that. I think Mr. Platts(Western) H design was ingenious as well. I too carry a small magnifier, some type of old western or case pocket knife & lately I've been carrying a case marilla as my tactical folder. Always carry my case shark tooth on the belt. I would carry my W49 but people would probably look at me weird😂😂

    Fascinating video. I had supposed that stacked handles were a thing of time immemorial. I saw a comment here regarding Bill Scagel and this is an interesting contribution to the discussion.
    Can we be certain that Marbles was the inventor of this method of making a handle? After all it appears that many have gone down in history as the inventor of something, meanwhile in many cases the verity of the claim is disputed.
    In any case this was a very enjoyable presentation, thank you.

      Thanks for sharing. Webster Marbles’ is Recognized as the Father of the Modern Fixed Blade Hunting Knife . Field and stream Magazine a while back had an Article titled such! The F& Stream Article states Marbles’ pioneered the Leather Stacked Handle! The only edged knives I have seen that had Fully wrapped leather handles are Early Swords. Possible though some Individual or country overseas may have, but I haven’t seen one in any books. The Scagel’ connection is interesting as He was located in that Michigan region. Definitely Marbles Cutlery was first Cutlery company to produce them shortly after turn of century

    Being English and not being allowed much more than a pea shooter I like the pocket baton idea,

      Under current UK legislation, a kubaton and even a pea shooter could get you prison time, since anything carried for the purpose of offence or defence is considered an offensive weapon.

      One might always carry a pocket rolling pin and if searched and questioned, be on one's way to or from a mini pizza party.
      As long as you don't admit to carrying an item for defence purposes and can provide a valid reason for carrying it then you are safe from prosecution.
      If you admit to carrying a frozen chicken for self defence purposes then you can get a criminal record, a fine and or prison time.
