I'm from an old Mill town in North Carolina but I've never left before and this is most likely where I will always be but NC one of the oldest states in America a ton of awesome history here indeed
I live in and area in Randolph County, NC, that was once called Coxboro. Before the revolutionary war, it was the largest settlement in the area with a grist mill, tanery, distilery and multiple stores and homes. There was a covered bridge and another open bridge across the creek just a hundred yards upstreem of where it empties into deep river. It slowly died and disappeared as the town of columbia (now known as Ramseur) grew just a few miles up river. You can still see the roadways, the covered bridge supports and some foundations in the middle of the woods, just feet from present day hwy 22 south.
My family came from Cataloochee. The photo of the long white bearded man is John Wesley Hall son of William Hall founder of Halls Top Mtn outside of Del Rio TN. Uncle John's house is gone but the spring house he built with egg size river rocks is still there above the field and water still running through its seal trays to cool your food. Bear county don't leave food in there duhhh no door on it ok!! You should borrow Mack Hannah's book to read he was raised there and was the first NP Ranger in Cataloochee, lots of info no one else wrote of. Only about 3 copies of his book in print and in special library collections one is in Boone NC. The name Cataloochee is Cherokee meaning paradise
Good stuff, ive lived in NC my entire life, my family or atleast the records ive been able to find on them have been here since the late 1700s. Always love to hear about this beautiful state we call home.
This is the first time I’ve heard someone use the term “kept Store”. 11:20 This actually makes sense for where the term store actually came from. Maybe Store has always been short for keeping storage? 😮
Wow. I'm glad your video appeared in my recommendations today. I've recently been walking around some pre-history here with a camera in my town Eden, that Gov Morehead miraculously "built" (with Spray's tiny population in the 1930s) an old stone factory in and suddenly became rich, If you ever get up this way, I'd be glad to show you around. The more I connect-the-dots, the more this riverside location looks like the foundation and remains of a single massive antediluvian community... 'beyond and back'.. pt1: th-cam.com/video/pzkcogWHmEo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=SKvTFU3lP07-mJOK pt2: th-cam.com/video/XsvBz7usxzU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=_5o29_DSDcOI2Fpk
We are still wondering about Jhon Bunyan as wether he was Canadian or Irsih? Allwe know about him is that he was the strongest and myghty lumberjack inthe land 🏕🌲🍀⚜🎻🪔th-cam.com/video/zZzlyEN31EE/w-d-xo.html🪔
