I was raised in Tarboro in Edgecombe County. Never heard of anyone finding gold. A classmate of mine when we were in elementary school talked about his brother finding a walrus tusk in the Tar River. He donated to N.C.State University. This would have been in the 1960s.

My home state, currently in Georgia where I got my start mining just love gold mining and exploration .and it definitely out there you just have to get permission, find it,hire engineers, lawyers, raise money, apply for permits, raise more money, drill to outline ore body,do metallurgy, design mine plan, fight the public for the opportunity to go way out on a limb , raise more money, hire people, MSHA school for everyone before they can get to work, buy equipment, raise more money, purchase and setup plant or process, raise more money then start mining and hope and pray you make it seeing how you are way upside down before you can even start. But I do love the challenges lol . Enjoyed the video and there’s gold in nearly every creek and river through the piedmont. 👍🏻🇺🇸

The Spanish were in Western NC. I've read a book where there was found a mold for making Spanish coins next to a mine. There were also a lot of arrowheads found, so there may have been a battle between the Indians and Spanish.

Side note the use of cyanide is a very common and safe method to produce gold from very low concentrations. And once you allow the ph of the solution to drop below 10/9 ppm it self destructs into nitrogen and oxygen. Another thing I’ve noticed is the ore we discharge after leaching grows the greenest plants and fast as the added lime we use to raise the ph to keep our cyanide alive and working. It’s heavy sulfides associated with the ore’s carrying gold that cause the problems. 🇺🇸👍🏻

From first hand experience, there is still a tremendous amount of Gold still here 👍🏻 as for cyanide leaching it is actually very safe and efficient. I would love to access more of the old dumps and tailings some do carry substantial gold ours average around 2.25 grams per ton. Biggest problem other than the one mentioned is getting the gold in contact with the cyanide and most ores mined were Quartz veins or schist of some sort, because they won’t absorb water it can’t contact which brings up other problems.

My 4th great grandfather actually owned a gold mine, never been able to figure out where in NC it was.. But it was likely between Cabarrus county and Union county.. That's where the family resided. I believe it was ordered in his will to be sold to pay off debts. His name was, Valentine Starnes.

Who was the same age as one of his daughters) she messed over his daughter and grandchildren... sold off everything for next nothing. The mine was sold for $250 ... About 8k in today's money. 😭 I'm going to go be sad now lol.
I love history and ancestry.. Even when they're sad... And may even anger you.... But always fascinating... Especially since all branches of my family have been here since before the American Revolution.

Thec plants that grow green and healthy from your talings are not just absorbing the lime they are getting trace minerals they need .
I'm a gold miner and Gardner all my life .
This is why now they sell volcanic ash deposits bagged up for plants .
The trace minerals are tantamount for healthy plants

Honest question. Do you think the recent storm and flooding will uncover gold we didn't know about or will it bury the gold that's there and make it harder to find? All jokes aside I hope everybody has has the best recovery as a community that you could have and a detrimental situation like hurricane in the mountain and landslides in the middle of the night.

No--- sadly, he did not. @thomas train is right. They had it for a number of years before Mr. Reed finally suspected it might be valuable. So he took it to a jeweler in Fayetteville. The jeweler bought it for 1/50th or so of its worth... 😕 I guess there are two lessons here: don't skip church, and don't trust jewelers in Fayetteville 😏

You probably don’t even have to step off the base to be helped to separate you from your money as you can file taxes online haha. It’s April so that time of the season.
I had a relative complain about taxes. My dad laughed. It’s like well the guy works as a prison guard so he’s a government employee that’s in theory his job is paid for by taxes. Nowadays most government spending is more then tax revenue so spending is funded by printing money or issuing debt the federal reserve then buys. But here’s the thing. The federal reserve pays a 90% franchise tax to the treasury so the government gets its money bad. The federalreserveis privately owned so it does paya6%dividend to wallstreet.
