Fitting the emove motor mover to our Bailey Unicorn

  • Last weekend we fitted the motor mover to our 2011 Bailey Unicorn Valencia. I got the mover from Towsure, which was delivered next day. I ordered their own make but they sent out a more expensive emove mover.
    The whole job took around 5 hours on a very warm sunny day!
    This video shows how we fitted it to the caravan, I am NOT an expert caravan mechanic just someone who likes to do some of our own jobs.

    Hi Martin. I hope you are well during this dreadful crisis. I found this video while trying to ward off CV-19-CF (Cabin Fever) and thoroughly enjoyed it. I now wish I'd fitted my motor mover myself instead of letting my dealer do it when I ordered my caravan. I've learnt a lot since buying my first caravan four years ago from watching videos like yours. Thank you and stay safe.

    Thanks for great video, bought EM303A because I had your video instructions. Glad I did as illustrations in manual weren't great. Note to competition these videos help sell products. Fitted motors myself took about an hour then another two to do cabling, used a junction box like you, thanks for idea. Yet to do wiring but luckily pickup on your comments and another video about not shortening wires. There are two reasons for this. 1) voltage drop on long wires could result in far motor running slightly slower. 2) if you want to transfer them to another van in future.
    Make sure you use torque wench.
    The EM303A doesn't have 2nd crossbar but does have 2 extra lighter wires for auto engage.
    Will comment again once wiring is complete and running.

    • @margaretbutler4545

      Just followup. A couple hours of wiring later and it worked first time. Need to move motors back 5mm as just going into red, downside of automatic as you can't vary engagement pressure like on manual. If I did it again would go for manual slightly cheaper and less wiring on installation. Engaging with battery drill is just as quick as automatic engage. Other benefit of installation was I used it to tidy up battery wiring and fit Anderson connector to allow for easy battery removal. Might place battery in car for some trips to offset extra weight from motor movers reducing available user payload mass. Next job is solar panel.
      Thanks again Caravan Nut.

    An excellent video on fitting a mover accessory. The important thing to note is that all the fittings are clamped on so that it does not affect the type approval of the caravan chassis ie no drilling or welding allowed. The fitting of this mover is easy for the DIY person and illustrates that this is more difficult than retrofitting my "Differential Stability" should it ever come onto the market. The rules are that an accessory must not change, interfere or degrade any approved part of the type approval. You have just displayed what can be done by most competent
    Individuals.

    Thanks for posting this mate. I'm fitting the exact motor mover to my Ranger GT60 next week and this is just what I need. I've also subscribed to your channel. I bought a Ranger GT60 for £4k scrap...they're worth £7-8k private or £9-10k trade. Just stripped the n/s front as it has a major leak from the top window and replaced all the timbers. Few other bits...I've spent about £800 On it including the motor mover and I'll have a caravan worth at least £7k!! My first major job on a caravan and I love it. I usually run a mile from damp but thought I'd have a go as this caravan is lovely and big and got all the mod cons!! Again thanks mate!!

      Hi Martin - today I will be removing my e-go Quattro movers from my twin axel and later this week (weather dependant) fitting a set of Reich EasyDriver Pro’s.
      Couple of questions: Have you got anything to add to the video from your experience to aid fitting?
      This question applies to all who can advise.
      Due to the virus and with everybody trying to grab a holiday,.
      The waiting list to get caravan jobs completed has resulted in a backlog with waiting times over 4 weeks.
      Therefore I went to a supplier and bought the movers direct with a view of getting a mobile fitting or doing the job myself.
      Reich have advised that the 5y warranty will still be applicable for self-fitment, but only for parts and not “parts & labour”.
      To say I’m a bit miffed is understandable due to my background.
      What was your situation regarding this position or can anyone else advise.
      Or did anyone self-fit and get the installation checked to get the warranty covered in full?

    • @TheCaravanNut
      @TheCaravanNut  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Chris, the only thing to add with the fitting is to make sure all cables to the control box are the same length. I terms of warranty, it had I think 12 months for the parts but obviously nothing for fitting. I did not get it checked but have had the van serviced with no issues. In my opinion with the fitting there’s nothing really that can go wrong, just check the torque settings when fitting bolts and maybe a while after using it to make sure they haven’t loosened. It’s a fairly straight forward Job. Caravan mechanics are fairly busy at the moment due to staycations and people not using their vans for a while. Hope all goes well, cheers Martin

I just bought one for a double wheel Sterling but only bought the single mover. Not really convinced it’s a good job, probably a needed the one for all four wheels. Great video and well done.

    Very very interesting, (now I know!) looks like hard exacting work? and a question? The silver mounting plates you put on the chassis (which all are hung from) it is not clear on the vid, if that the 16mm bolts go through the chassis? (with holes? did you drill them?) or did they only clamp the plates to the chassis with force only? interesting to know.

    Nicely done, I was looking at the twin axle version of the towsure mover, I noticed the similarities between that and the emove, and I came to the conclusion that they are the same rebadged product. Have you had any issues with quality as of yet, they are keenly priced in comparison to the more expensive makes, seeing as you only use them sparingly , are the dearer ones worth it.
    Regards

    • @TheCaravanNut
      @TheCaravanNut  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I ordered the Towsure mover and got the emove, I do think they are the same product with different labels. So far the mover has been great with no problems. More often than not I reverse the van on to pitches, I use it when hitching up at the storage and if it’s a tight pitch. For the amount of times it gets used I would get an expensive one, this one does the trick well. Cheers, Martin

    Thanks Martin great stuff! I am thinking of buying the emover from towsure but our van is a compass corona 362 ie quite small....and there is only a small distance front edge of the tyre to where the alto frame starts making an angle inwards towards the front towing hitch. (Approx 3.5 inches). Do you know how much space is needed for fitting the main bracket? I am not keen on fitting a mover behind the wheel, apparently they are more prone to getting dirt in and it would mean removing the spare wheel to so where else.
    Thanks Dave in Skipton

    • @TheCaravanNut
      @TheCaravanNut  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dave, not sure I would put the mover in front on the wheel, this could cause issues when trying to put the van on levelling ramps as there may not be enough clearance. I would remove the spare wheel and it’s carrier if needed, getting the spare out is quite a tricky job and even more so at the side of the motorway when the chassis is lower due to a possible puncture. We have moved our spare wheel under our fixed bed.
      Hope that helps, Martin
